Detecting Heart Disease: Cardiac CT v. Stress Testing
Fort Lauderdale, FL cardiac imaging specialist Claudio Smuclovisky, MD, talks about the most common cause of death in the world - heart disease - and how technology at Holy Cross Hospital in South Florida can detect cardiovascular disease years before it is detectable by traditional tests and screenings. Cardiac CT using our 256 slice CT scanner provides detailed 3D images of the heart, its vessels, involves 90% less radiation than nuclear stress testing, and the images are acquired rapidly - within two heart beats. Talk to your doctor about the importance of cardiovascular screenings. To make an appointment for a cardiac CT at the Holy Cross Harry T. Mangurian, Jr., Diagnostic Imaging Center, call 954-202-0277. Memorial Cardiac & Vascular Institute Performs Broward's First Adult Heart Transplant
(Hollywood, Fla.) Memorial Cardiac and Vascular Institute at Memorial Regional Hospital made history this week by performing the first ever, adult heart transplant in Broward County. The hospital received UNOS (United Network for Organ Sharing) approval to launch the adult heart transplant program earlier this year, becoming one of only two programs in South Florida. The skilled cardiac transplant team is led by Dr. Enrique Gongora, Medical Director of the Adult Heart Transplant and Mechanical Circulatory Support Program at the Memorial Cardiac and Vascular Institute and Dr. Ioana Dumitru, Medical Director of Adult Cardiac Transplant, Heart Failure and Cardiomyopathy. Both work with a high-caliber team of dedicated nurses, intensivists, perfusionists, and laboratory medicine experts, who were all on cue for the life-saving transplant. “We are very excited for our first heart transplant patient,” said Dr. Dumitru, a board-certified heart failure and transplant cardiologist. “The 51-year-old patient who received the life-saving transplant had end-stage heart failure due to dilated cardiomyopathy. We had been following her since this Spring.” The team is preparing for the next adult heart transplants, given they currently have six patients waiting for this miraculous gift of life. “Performing our first adult heart transplant is an achievement that reflects the steadfast commitment of Memorial Healthcare System to provide this community with world class cardiovascular care,” said Dr. Gongora, a board certified cardiac surgeon. “South Florida has historically been underserved for advanced heart failure care. Having a heart failure program, able to provide advanced heart failure care including heart transplantation and ventricular assist devices, is imperative to serve the growing number of patients suffering with advanced heart failure.” The adult cardiac transplant team is part of Memorial Cardiac and Vascular Institute’s Total Heart Care program. In August, Memorial Regional Hospital earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for its ventricular assist device (VAD) destination therapy program. Destination therapy VADs are implanted in patients with refractory heart failure who are not eligible for a heart transplant. VADs have been proven to dramatically improve the long term survival and the quality of life of end stage heart failure patients. The expert cardiac care at Memorial Healthcare System also encompasses southwest Broward County, while also covering the spectrum from pediatric to adult cardiac services. Cardiac experts at Memorial Hospital West perform catheterization and emergency angioplasties. The pediatric cardiac team at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Heart Institute – led by Dr. Frank Scholl, Chief, Pediatric Congenital Heart Surgery and Surgical Director, Pediatric Heart Transplant and Dr. Maryanne Chrisant, Medical Director of Pediatric Heart Transplant Cardiomyopathy and Heart Failure Services – has successfully performed 17 pediatric heart transplants since 2010. Between all the programs dedicated to cardiac care at Memorial Regional Hospital, Memorial Hospital West and Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, Memorial Healthcare System is poised to offer the community total heart care from the youngest pediatric patients to adults, and throughout South Broward County and beyond. Memorial Cardiac and Vascular Institute is a leader in cardiovascular care in South Florida, offering a wide array of services dedicated to the prevention, detection and treatment of cardiovascular disease. Its specialists work together as a multidisciplinary team using sophisticated diagnostic equipment and facilities dedicated solely to cardiovascular care. Outcomes of cardiovascular care are reviewed on a regular basis by multidisciplinary physician-review panels assisted by nurses specializing in quality assurance and utilizing computerized data collection. With extraordinary medical expertise, advanced technology and exacting quality guidelines, Memorial Cardiac and Vascular Institute offers a superior level of cardiovascular care to the South Florida community and beyond. Vascular Navigator: Florida Hospital Fish Memorial
Florida Hospital Fish Memorial has hired Michelle Keith to serve as the Vascular Navigator. In this role, Keith will be responsible for facilitating teamwork between radiologists, cardiologists and vascular surgeons to collectively determine the best course of treatment for each individual patient. An additional facet to Keith's new role at Florida Hospital Fish Memorial is to assist in the development of a Vascular Center of Excellence. "Cardiac disease is the number one killer of Americans; every 34 seconds someone dies from it," said Danielle Johnson, Florida Hospital Fish Memorial Chief Operating Officer. "If you have cardiac disease, you probably have vascular disease too." The only difference between cardiac disease and vascular disease is the location: cardiac disease is the build-up of plaque in the arteries in your heart, while vascular disease is the build-up of plaque in any of your arteries outside of the heart. "A build-up of plaque in the arteries has a compounding effect. When it builds-up in your arteries, the blood flow in that area slows down. This can lead to wounds that don't heal, which then become infected. This, unfortunately, then leads to amputations," Johnson said. "By developing a Vascular Center of Excellence, we hope to catch vascular disease earlier and prevent the downstream impact that requires interventional or surgical procedures, ultimately preventing as many amputations as possible." Keith previously served as the Director of Clinical Sales for Morris Innovative, where she was responsible for training a sales force, physicians and more than 250 staff members of hospitals nationwide to be competent in homeostasis and groin management issues. Keith began her career in the cardiac catheterization lab at Florida Hospital South in 1992. After becoming supervisor, she began working for a cardiology practice and developed a Cardiovascular Center of Excellence. The Orlando resident is a Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist and is currently pursuing her master's degree in healthcare administration. She is certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, as well as Baldridge training and six sigma, which are two customer service and process initiatives.

Cardiologist: William J. Parsons, MD, RPVI
Cardiologist William J. Parsons, MD, RPVI practices at Duke Cardiology at Southpoint in Durham. Get to know him in this video and learn more at https://www.dukemedicine.org/find-doctors-physicians/william-j-parsons-md-rpvi About Dr. Parsons I came to Duke for cardiology fellowship training in 1985. I have always enjoyed the central role of the heart in human health and helping people manage their heart and vascular disease. As a young Assistant Professor of Medicine at Duke more than 25 years ago, I had the privilege of working in cardiovascular basic science with some of Duke’s finest academicians. I then joined the faculty at UTSW-Dallas. Shortly after my arrival in Dallas, my daughter Abby, at the age of 3, became ill with a brain tumor. At that point I decided to leave academics and enter private practice. After 10 years, Abby’s neurosurgeon in Dallas felt that she was cured, prompting us to return to the Triangle. Over the last 14 years, I have enjoyed practicing cardiology in Raleigh with Carolina Cardiology Consultants. Given the complexities of today’s health care systems, I am pleased to return to Duke after a 24 year hiatus, where I believe the best care is available to my patients. I have particular interest in cardiac imaging and vascular medicine. My wife Darlene and I have three grown children Emily, Abigail, and Will, and have lived in Raleigh since 2001. I enjoy traveling, usually in a car, with my wife and any other family members who will join us.

Dr Mackay, spider veins treatment, cosmetic, varicose veins, Tampa area vein specialist
http://www.drmackay.com/ 1-800-527-VEIN 3 offices in the Tampa area, St. Petersburg, Largo and Palm Harbor Created by http://www.MOOvinVIDEO.com Varicose veins are generally the result of a failure of the Great Saphenous Vein, a vein located deep the inside the thigh. The great saphenous vein is only visible with the aid of an ultrasound device, which means that all patients with bulging varicose veins should receive an ultrasound exam before treatment and diagnosis. Blood in healthy veins travels in a single direction, but the insufficiency of the saphenous vein valves causes blood to leak and fall back the opposite direction. Blood travels backward from the veins in the thigh and pools inside veins in the calf. This backwards blood flow causes veins to stretch, swell, and twist. Varicose veins may progress and cause threatening blood clots or large ulcers on the legs and ankles if left untreated. Characterized by veins that appear twisted and bulging underneath the skin surface, varicose veins can be caused by a variety of factors such as: Heredity A sedentary lifestyle Jobs that require excessive standing or sitting DVT Pregnancy Varicose Veins can also be found in the abdominal area leading to Pelvic Congestion Syndrome. Symptoms that may occur when Varicose Veins are left untreated, develop when the bulging varicose veins do not allow the blood to circulate becoming stagnant leading to the development of leg ulcers and superficial blood clots, where a small percentage of these blood clots can migrate thru the vein to the deep venous system. Deep vein blood clots are dangerous and can lead to a Pulmonary Embolism causing death. SPIDER VEINS, are small dilated blood vessels near the surface of the skin. Spider veins are caused when the valves in the blood vessels can not keep the blood from flowing backward, the blood starts collecting inside the vein causing it to expand and become visible under the skin. Spider veins almost never cause pain, and if they are asymptomatic, they do not require a venous ultrasound test. However, a patient has symptoms the spider veins can occasionally be associated with disorders of the larger leg veins (saphenous, perforator and varicose veins), making it necessary to treat the underlying leg vein problem. Treatment for spider veins may be ineffective, or recurrence may occur faster if the underlying issue is not treated first. Once the underlying problem is treated, the spider veins will remain and sclerotherapy or laser treatment will be necessary. It is a painless test which checks for the buildup of fatty deposits (atherosclerosis) in the arteries of the body. Blood and oxygen is transported around the body by an extensive network of arteries and smaller vessels which together make up the cardiovascular system (or vascular system for short). Any blockages in these arteries can cause sudden and severe illness, even death, depending on where the blockage occurs. Screening the vascular system with ultrasound technology for signs of narrowing or blockages can help prevent future heart attacks, strokes and impaired blood flow to the legs, arms and abdomen. A ‘screening’ is where a person is checked for signs of a disease although they show no symptoms. Spider Vein treatment Largo FL Spider Vein treatment Oldsmar fl Spider Vein treatment Tampa FL Spider Vein treatment St. Petersburg FL Spider Vein treatment Tampa Spider Vein treatment New Port Richey FL Spider Vein treatment Holiday FL Spider Vein treatment Clearwater FL Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm The aorta is the largest blood vessel in the body which leads from the heart down into the abdomen where it then branches into two smaller arteries to supply the legs. An abdominal aortic aneurysm is when the part of the aorta in the abdominal region swells and has the potential to burst causing heavy internal bleeding and sudden death. Up to 75 percent of people with a ruptured aorta will die before they reach hospital. It is more common in white men over the age of 60 than women; and in those with symptoms of CHD and PAD. Screening is recommended for people with risk factors. Note: It is not related to aneurysms of the brain. another http://www.moovinvideo.com

The diet that starves cancer and reverses diabetes
The eating routine that starves tumor and turns around diabetes. As opposed to prevalent thinking, no or low fat eating routine isn't that bravo. As of late, some traditional cardiologists have expressed that one needs solid fats keeping in mind the end goal to keep up great cardiovascular wellbeing. They have invalidated the myth of cholesterol as the significant reason for stopped up conduits and heart assaults. They additionally cautioned about the threats related with statin drugs, drugs used to bring down cholesterol levels in the body. In all actuality cerebrum and sensory system tissue require cholesterol and comparable fats to remake and keep up legitimate capacity. It merits specifying that reviews discovered higher rate of dementia, including Alzheimer's, in statin clients. Skin cholesterol starts the change procedure of UVB daylight presentation to vitamin D3 in the liver. Without the nearness of cholesterol, there isn't change, which means deficient vitamin D3 levels. Late research proposes that following a high fat eating routine can invert forceful malignancies. Obviously, don't anticipate that the disease business will uncover these realities. They have to get financing to consider patentable medications which don't really cure, but instead continue executing with surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. The high fat ketogenic consume less calories – time tested:. The best narrative malignancy inversion with respect to this eating regimen includes Dr. Fred Hatfield, a previous politically influential nation lifting champion, coach, and fruitful entrepreneur. The explanation behind his specialist title is the way that he finished graduate investigations in kinesiology. Dr. Hatfield was determined to have a forceful, metastatic skeletal malignancy. He was given just three months left to live, and a similar anticipation was affirmed by three specialists. He chose to complete a little research without anyone else, and this is the means by which he ran over the ketogenic eating routine as promising elective treatment. Dr. Dominic D'Agostino, a metabolic analyst at University of South Florida, has discovered that mice with instigated malignancy who were put on high fat non-starch glucose eating regimens turned around disease and recuperated significantly more viably when contrasted with those on chemotherapy. Despite the fact that this investigation may not state much, Hatfield chose to try it out. He quit devouring sugars and starches and began eating a considerable measure of good meats and numerous gainful fats, not the shoddy trans-unsaturated fat hydrogenated oils or margarine. These items are just an atom far from being plastic, which implies that they are troublesome and even difficult to utilize. A portion of the best wellsprings of good/useful fats incorporate cool squeezed olive oil, hemp oils, margarine, eggs, and coconut oil. Following a couple of long stretches of following this eating routine, Hatfield`s growth cleared up. After a year, he was still in a decent wellbeing. Dr. D'Agostino has conversed with numerous different patients who have utilized a ketogenic eating regimen to turn around malignancy. In particular, they really succeeded! Tumor cells depend on glucose to flourish as they are denied of oxygen that typical cells use for digestion. At the point when body`s cells need glucose, great fats yield unsaturated fats that are handed over to vitality giving ketones. This is the means by which coconut oil figures out how to turn around Alzheimer`s infection. The change of ketones offers vitality to those cerebrum cells that are never again processing oxygen and also they did some time recently. Ordinary cells can utilize change over ketones for vitality, while destructive cells can`t. Subsequently, swapping glucose for ketones starves growth cells. It merits saying that there aren't any symptoms related with this eating regimen, with a special case of weight reduction. Ketogenic Diet Meal Plans that Kill Cancer":.
