Don't Ignore These Early Symptoms of Brain Tumour

17:02
A brain tumour may sound like a scary, even devastating possibility. Basically a growth of abnormal cells in your brain, a brain tumor can be benign – that is, without cancer cells or malignant – with cancer cells. Understanding brain tumor symptoms early can mean a better shot at a positive outcome. Brain tumor symptoms are caused by their location or the pressure they put on the brain. Which is why symptoms vary from one patient to another. Please note: The content provided below and elsewhere on this video is not intended nor should it be construed as providing professional medical or nutritional advice. Do not rely on information provided on this video for your health problems. instead, consult a qualified medical professional for advice. If you have multiple signs and symptoms of this problem, ask your doctor to check your health levels. Here are 5 Common Signs of Brain Tumour that you should to know; 01:02 Seizures: Mostly Partial. 02:05 Headaches: Inexplicable And Resistant To Medicines. 03:09 Speech And Hearing: Difficulty Speaking Meaningfully. 04:07 Vision Problems: Loss Of Vision Or Double Vision. 05:06 Clumsiness: Loss Of Balance And Coordination. Believe it or not, seizures are the commonest symptom of brain tumor, with about 60% patients experiencing them. They occur mostly when the tumors are located in the central part of the brain and have a slow growth rate and many lesions. They are also common in cases of slowly growing gliomas (tumors in the glial cells), convexity meningiomas (tumors on the meninges), brain stem tumors, and when the tumor has started metastasizing or spreading to nearby cells. A new persistent headache is a common sign of brain tumor, though not the first sign. About 50% of all brain tumor patients complain of headaches but not usually at tumor onset. Either the tumor puts pressure on the brain or blocks the drainage of the cerebrospinal fluid and raises the ICP, which results in headaches. A sudden loss of communication skills can indicate a brain tumor. You may slur, stutter, speak haltingly, grope for appropriate words, muddle words, forget names of common objects, and be unable to string a meaningful sentence together. Sometimes, you may speak fluently but your speech may be filled with “non-words.” You may be able to write but not read out what you’ve written. These symptoms can also indicate a stroke or a migraine attack. All three are serious medical conditions and need attention. Blurred sight, vision loss that comes and goes, or seeing floating shapes like small dots or thin strands in front of your eyes can all indicate a tumor. If you are finding it difficult to maintain your balance while walking or having difficulty coordinating your hands and legs, it might be a symptom of brain tumor. This might be caused by a tumor in the cerebellum, the primary motor cortex, or the parietal lobe, all of which are responsible in different ways for the coordination of movements. A brain stem tumor that affects hearing can also contribute to loss of balance. Well, If you experience any of the following 5 Common Signs of brain tumour that I mentioned above, you should not ignore it. It’s important to tell your health care provider to have them checked by your doctor. So that the cause can be found and treated, if needed. Being proactive can lead to earlier treatment and a better outlook. Thank you for watching "5 Common Signs of Brain Tumor." Early Detection Could Save Your Life Longer. Pain is your body signaling to you that something is wrong. Be Smart about Your Symptoms, Know When It’s Time to See a Doctor. Each of the symptoms listed here could, at first, result in an incorrect diagnosis. The more information you are able to provide, the sooner your doctor will know the best course of action. Symptoms are the body’s way of communicating with us and with others. Listen to this communication. No matter what their cause, it is always important. This Surgical Procedure Saves Lives By Exposing The Brain

03:15
This procedure exposes the brain to remove tumors. Brain tumors pose a serious challenge for surgeons. So how do we access this tumor, without injuring the adjacent healthy brain? Craniotomy is the answer. The procedure allows surgeons to access the tumor through the skull. Tech Insider tells you all you need to know about tech: gadgets, how-to's, gaming, science, digital culture, and more. Subscribe to our channel and visit us at: http://www.businessinsider.com/sai TI on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/techinsider TI on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/tech_insider/ TI on Twitter: https://twitter.com/techinsider -------------------------------------------------- Following is the transcript of the video: Here's how the procedure works. The surgeon makes an incision in the skin over the skull. They'll often use MRI or CT scans to determine exactly where to cut. Next, they drill small holes and lift a section of skull called a bone flap. That exposes a protective layer called the dura. The neurosurgeon inserts a small microscope. Then they can safely remove the tumor. Finally, they replace the bone flap and screw it in place. The procedure might be finished, but the work is far from over. Complications can include; infection, seizures, swelling of brain tissue. Even after a successful surgery, patients can experience neurological issues. We have to make sure that the patient [is] continuously training the function and sometimes even relearn[ing[ these things, which might have been lost during surgery. It is very rewarding if you go back to the patients and you see that everything which has been discussed has been achieved. And the patient regains hope for his future life. And we were able to deliver all the excellent care we were talking about. Craniotomy has many uses beyond aiding in tumor removal. It's also used to treat aneurysms, abscesses, and epilepsy. Craniotomy can also help relieve brain pressure caused by injury.

My Brain Cancer Story

36:56
Instagram / Twitter - @jwalkerfit Last year, I was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Here is what happened next. Prior to my first Neurosurgeon appointment, I started documenting key events on camera. This is my journey from diagnosis, through surgery and into life beyond the brain cancer illness. In what was a challenging and life-altering time, I've learned so much about myself and what I want my future to hold. Completing the New York Marathon last November provided the catalyst to launch a fitness journey where I push my body to its limits and prove to myself that willpower can conquer physical demons. Triathlons are next on the agenda, beginning with a training trip to the USA this coming October. I'll complete ocean swims in Florida, before going back to NYC for further training. Then it's on to competition here in Australia through summer. If you would like to connect with me, please email me: jacob.walker.marathon@gmail.com

7 Early Signs and Symptoms of a Brain Tumor Don't Ignore These

05:15
7 Early Signs and Symptoms of a Brain Tumor Brain tumors come in all shapes and sizes and so do their symptoms. "The key to a tumor's symptoms really depends on its location," says Theodore Schwartz, MD, a neurosurgeon with the Weill Cornell Brain and Spine Center. For example, if you have a tumor near the part of your brain that controls your arm or your eyesight, your symptoms may include limb weakness or blurry vision, Schwartz says. When you consider that every cell in your brain can form a tumor—and that your brain controls or interprets information from every part of your body—the list of possible tumor symptoms encompasses "almost anything imaginable," Schwartz says. Still, some signs and symptoms are more common than others. Here's what to watch out for. Seizures Regardless of your type of tumor, seizures are often one of the first signs of trouble. "Irritation from the tumor makes the [brain's] neurons fire uncontrollably, and you get abnormal movements," Schwartz says. Like tumors, seizures take many forms. You could experience whole-body convulsions, or jerking or flexing confined to one limb or one part of your face. Clumsiness If you find yourself fumbling with keys, missing steps, or struggling with your balance, that sort of clumsiness in your arms, legs, or hands could be a sign of trouble, Schwartz says. Problems speaking, swallowing, or controlling your facial expressions are some of the ways clumsiness could show up in or around your head, he adds. Numbness Like clumsiness, losing feeling in a part of your body or face is something to keep an eye on, Schwartz says. Particularly if a tumor forms on the brain stem—the place where your brain connects with your spinal cord—you may experience loss of feeling or clumsy movements. Changes in memory or thinking While it's true that tumors can cause big shifts in a person's behavior or personality, the types of radical transformations you sometimes hear about—or see in movies—are uncommon, Schwartz says. People with tumors are more likely to have issues remembering things, to feel confused, or to suffer less-dramatic thinking problems, he says. Nausea Feeling queasy or sick to your stomach, especially if those symptoms are persistent and unexplained, could be a sign of a tumor, Schwartz says. Vision changes Blurry vision, double vision, and loss of vision are all associated with tumors, Schwartz says. You may also see floating spots or shapes—or what's known as an "aura." Not usually headaches Breathe easy. Despite what most of us would assume, headaches are often not an early indicator of a brain tumor. "They could come on with a very large tumor, but they're not usually one of the first symptoms to emerge," Schwartz says. Everything else you need to know What causes a tumor? Schwartz says some genetic disorders can lead to brain tumors. "But the majority of tumors arise in people with no known risk factors or predisposing factors," he explains. Children and adults over 60 are more likely to develop tumors, but "everyone is at risk at any age," he adds. Despite what you may have heard, cell phones are not a known risk factor. "That's a common misconception, but there's no compelling evidence that pushes us to consider a link between cell phones and tumors," he says. For large or malignant brain tumors, treatments could involve surgery, medications, radiation, or chemotherapy. The good news: Not all brain tumors are serious. "Many tumors are small and benign, and require no treatment," Schwartz explains. "If we find one, we'll just monitor it for growth or changes."

Brain Cancer Symptoms -- 10 Signs you may Have it & 5 Tips on Preventing It!

06:18
http://utahtexans.com/ click on the link above for a free guide to shopping for dietary supplements. Nobody is exactly sure what causes cancer, but everyone agrees that it has something to do with a damaged cell. Instead of a cell dying and recreating itself like it normally does it starts to grow out of control, and create additional cancer cells. When the cancer cell enters the blood stream it can hitch a ride anywhere in the body and start to grow. Ultimately cancer causes death if not stopped. The bad news with brain cancer is that sometimes there will be no warning signs of this disease until someone dies. This is why it's a good idea to get routine medical checkups, which is the only guaranteed way to identify a problem and stop it from really causing mayhem. The first warning sign that a person has brain cancer is going to be pain like a headache. A person could experience some confusion, being clumsy with hand eye coordination, as well as with balancing. These signs are very similar to someone being intoxicated when they are not. Another common warning sign of brain cancer would be seizures and epilepsy. A seizure occurs when the brain sends out too much information to body parts and can involve a loss in conscious, which could be brief or it could take place for many minutes. Sometimes a person could be shaking so bad you think they were possessed by an evil spirit, and at other times it could be extremely mild like someone drank too much coffee. If you ever hear the term epilepsy that just refers to multiple seizures, which I'm sure can be very annoying. A few other signs of brain cancer could be sudden issues recalling names or faces as well as with concentration. Other problems could include vision difficulties, vomiting, and trouble with speaking, hearing as well as with emotional health. When I'm referring to emotional health this could involve being very irritable, moody, sad or a feeling of intoxication. The hardest decision is when a person should go see a medical professional about these symptoms. The best answer is that your body is smarter than you, and you should go with your first instinct. If you think for a second that some type of health problem could be serious, you should see a doctor immediately. One of the best things someone can do to prevent this horrible health problem would be to take a good multi-vitamin supplement. If someone is deficient in just one vitamin it could really increase the chance of cancer. Yes, a person can get vitamins from food, but the truth is that the food that we do eat does not have the vitamins and minerals like it did when our grandparents ate it. The next thing you can do would be to take a good omega 3 supplement. Omega 3 fats are incredibly important for the body and we can't create them. You can get them from seafood, but fish usually have mercury and contaminations that make them unhealthy. In your brain there are all these neurons and the protective coating on the neurons is made of omega 3. Without enough Omega 3 fats it's easier for these neurons to be damaged and this can harm the brain. Plus these healthy fats help with skin care, cardiovascular health, vision health and much more. Also someone can not do stupid stuff like smoke a lot of tobacco, eat trans fats, and another great idea would be to enhance the immune system to kill cancerous cells and there are many herbs that can do this. I do believe that one of the greatest inventions of society is supplements. Like almost every good thing there is a dark side to it. The main problem with dietary supplements is that in many countries It's not very difficult for companies to make crappy products and to sale them. Every year thousands of people get harmed from buying these supplements, which they think are helping them. What is even worse is that shopping for these products can be incredibly confusing. Due to this I actually searched really hard for all kinds of tips and advice when it comes to shopping for supplements. Then I put all these tips together in one guide that I really feel has a lot of value and can help a lot of people. It shares a bunch of warning signs that a product could be of low quality and can hurt people. It goes over how to identify a good product and just because it's more expensive that doesn't mean it's a superior quality. It helps to simplify herbal remedies; it talks about the job of governments regarding supplements and even provides some online resources. The best part about it is that it's completely free and you really should check it out. You can learn more about this free guide by clicking on the link http://utahtexans.com/.

2-Minute Neuroscience: Brain tumors

02:00
A brain tumor is an abnormal growth of cells in the brain. In this video, I discuss benign and malignant tumors, general symptoms of brain tumors, and a few examples of some of the more common types of brain tumors. TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to 2 minute neuroscience, where I explain neuroscience topics in 2 minutes or less. In this installment I will discuss brain tumors. A brain tumor is an abnormal growth of cells that occurs in the brain. Brain tumors, like other tumors, can be benign or malignant. Malignant tumors grow much more rapidly than benign tumors, and frequently spread into surrounding brain tissue, whereas benign tumors tend to grow slowly and do not typically spread. Only malignant tumors are considered cancerous, but a benign brain tumor can still be problematic as its growth can impact neighboring brain tissue. If a brain tumor begins in the brain, it’s called a primary brain tumor. If it spreads to the brain from some other location, it’s known as a secondary brain tumor. The symptoms of brain tumors vary depending on what part of the brain is impacted and thus from case to case, but some common symptoms include headache, nausea and vomiting, sensory disturbances like blurred vision, loss of balance, confusion, changes in personality, and seizures. There are over 120 different types of brain tumors, so I’ll only discuss a few of the more common types here. Gliomas are a category of brain tumors that begin in glial cells. The most common glioma is astrocytoma, which arises from the glial cells called astrocytes. One example of an astrocytoma is low-grade astrocytoma, which indicates a slow-growing tumor that is usually benign. Another example, however, is glioblastoma multiforme, which is a highly malignant tumor that grows rapidly and spreads. Meningiomas are the most common primary brain tumor. Meningiomas form in the meninges, and are usually benign. Medulloblastoma is the most common type of malignant tumor in children. Medulloblastomas typically begin near the fourth ventricle, between the brainstem and the cerebellum. Reference: Stayner CJ, Lopez RM, Tuzzolino KM. Brain tumors. New Brain Cancer Treatment Sees Results

01:57
Cancer doctors at Cleveland Clinic are treating the brain tumors through a new radiation treatment called perfection. This new brain cancer treatment involves delivering a high dose of radiation to a small target. In this case, 192 radiation beams are pointed around the head towards the tumor. Each beam carries a low dose of radiation but where they intersect the dose is high enough to kill the tumor without damaging healthy tissue around it. This radiation treatment is available for a variety of brain tumors allowing treatment anywhere within the brain and limits the amount of radiation to the patient and medical worker. It also allows greater flexibility of how specialists can sculpt or shape the radiation beam. For more information on brain tumor treatment, please visit http://www.clevelandclinic.org/braintumor. USMLE Neurology 24 Neuro Pathology: Brain Neoplasms and Cancer

Follow along with First Aid, or with my notes which can be found here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/8uams03zbpcr333/AABmgSwTFPAhgsUqHKrmFyPIa?dl=0 This neuro pathology video will be on brain neoplasms and cancer. We start with just a quick discussion of the difference between primary brain tumors and metastatic cancer. Mets appear as multiple lesions as well as their propensity to affect the grey/white junction. Now we can talk about primary tumors. In adults, the most common malignant tumor is glioblastoma multiforme. This is a cancer of astrocytes (astrocytoma) and is very aggressive, affecting both hemispheres and the corpus callosum. It can also metastasize. Histologically, it shows pseudo-pallisading cells, and because it's made of astrocytes, it is positive for GFAP. Next up, the most common benign and most common overall adult tumor is meningioma. This is usually a tumor of the arachnoid layer and is more common in women (as it expresses estrogen receptors). Grossly, you can have a mass attached to the dura and is resectable. Histologically, you see psammoma bodies. You can have cancers of the cells that make myelin like Schwann cells (schwannoma). This can affect your cranial nerve VIII and cause deafness, especially if it's seen in neurofibromatosis II. These cells are s100 positive. Another cell that makes myelin is oligodendrocytes. Cancers of this cell usually affect the frontal lobe and histologically you see a lot of capillaries. Last adult tumor is hemangioblastoma, which guessing from the name has a lot to do with blood vessels. You see capillaries and this tumor can release EPO. It is associated with VHL. Now to childhood tumors. The most common is pilocytic astrocytoma. You know it's your astrocytes because, again, it's GFAP positive. Another big one is a cancer of ependymal cells, called ependyoma. Recall epedymal cells make CSF and tumors here can cause hydrocephalus. These like to line blood vessels. Medulloblastoma is a cancer of primitive neuroectoderm cells. This loves to affect the cerebellum and drop mets to the spinal cord. Because they are from primitive cells, histologically they are small blue cells. It is associated with Turcot syndrome, a syndrome with colonic polyps and brain cancer. Next up is craniopharyngioma, which stems from the Rathke's pouch. This is like pituitary adenomas in adults. It will share the signs of bitemporal hemianopia, but will instead have things like calcifications and cholesterol. Lastly, we will talk about pineal gland tumors called pinealoma. The pineal gland produce melatonin and tumors here can produce sex hormones like b-hcg. As it grows it can compress the superior colliculus, which knocks out our vertical gaze. This causes Parinaud syndrome.

Barney is a 12-14 year old Bichon-Mix. He is showing signs of having a brain tumor as documented in this video presentation. If your pet is having a similar issue please contact your vet. Barney's hind end began to sway about 6 months ago. On July 26, 2015 his primary signs showed in gait-mobility issues. Since then his illness has progressed and he will be put to sleep within the next few weeks. His quality of life has not diminished to the point of euthanasia as he still gets excited when I arrive home, still wants to go for car rides, can stand on his own, doesn't soil himself, vocalize pain and has not had a tonic clonic seizure. This video only shows the bad, so it may appear as though he is suffering 24/7. That's not the case and won't happen. Fair Use: Education. Not for gain or profit.

Cognitive (thinking) difficulties are very common in patients with brain cancer. Depending on the location of the tumor, patients may experience problems with attention, organizational skills, memory, or language that often worsen after treatment with radiation or chemotherapy, reports neuropsychologist Denise Correa of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
