The Fantastical World Of Hormones With Dr John Wass (Full Biology Documentary) | Spark
Hormones shape each and every one of us, affecting almost every aspect of our lives - our height, our weight, our appetites, how we grow and reproduce, and even how we behave and feel. This documentary tells the wonderful and often weird story of how hormones were discovered. Presenter John Wass, one the country's leading experts on hormones, relates some amazing stories - how as recently as the 19th century boys were castrated to keep their pure soprano voice, how juices were extracted from testicles in the hope they would rejuvenate old men and how true medical heroes like Frederick Banting discovered a way to make insulin, thus saving the lives of countless diabetes sufferers. And hormones remain at the cutting edge of medicine as we try and deal with modern scourges like obesity. Content Provided By TVF International. 15% Fiber Rule: Carb-to-Fiber Ratio
A practical use method of scaling or classifying carb sources based on fiber content. The American Heart Association came out with the 10:1 ratio and Dr. Greger has a video on the 5:1 ratio. I am proposing a middle-ground ratio that will eliminate the laxity of the 10:1 ratio while being less stringent than the 5:1 ratio. My ratio is the 6.66:1 ratio or 15% of total carbs comprise of fiber. The benefits of swapping out lower fiber to higher fiber has many potential benefits ranging from better glycemic control, gut microbiome, cholesterol panel, fat loss, digestive function, lower risk of heart disease, etc. High Fiber and Low Starch Intakes Are Associated with Circulating Intermediate Biomarkers of Type 2 Diabetes among Women https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4725431/ Dietary fibre intake and mortality from cardiovascular disease and all cancers: A meta-analysis of prospective cohort studies- https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26711548 Dietary fiber and body weight- http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0899900704003041 Dietary Fiber Gap and Host Gut Microbiota- https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/28219317 Mechanisms linking dietary fiber, gut microbiota and colon cancer prevention- https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24567795 The health benefits of dietary fiber: beyond the usual suspects of type 2 diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular disease and colon cancer- https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22401879 Cholesterol-lowering effects of dietary fiber: a meta-analysis- https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9925120

What is HIGH-PROTEIN DIET? What does HIGH-PROTEIN DIET mean? HIGH-PROTEIN DIET meaning & explanation
What is HIGH-PROTEIN DIET? What does HIGH-PROTEIN DIET mean? HIGH-PROTEIN DIET meaning - HIGH-PROTEIN DIET definition - HIGH-PROTEIN DIET explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. A high-protein diet is often recommended by bodybuilders and nutritionists to help efforts to build muscle and lose fat. It should not be confused with low-carbohydrate diets, such as the Atkins Diet, which are not food-energy–controlled and which often contain large amounts of fat. While adequate protein is required for building skeletal muscle and other tissues, there is ongoing debate regarding the use and necessity of high-protein diets in anaerobic exercise, in particular for weight training and bodybuilding. Extreme protein intake (in excess of 200 g per day), coupled with inadequate intake of other calorie sources (fat or carbohydrates), can cause a form of metabolic disturbance and death commonly known as rabbit starvation. Even when consuming other calorie sources, consuming more than 285 g of protein per day (for an 80 kg person) may be unsafe. Relatively little evidence has been gathered regarding the effect of more moderate long-term high intake of protein on the development of chronic diseases. Increased load on the kidney is a result of an increase in reabsorption of NaCl. This causes a decrease in the sensitivity of tubuloglomerular feedback, which, in turn, results in an increased glomerular filtration rate. This increases pressure in glomerular capillaries. When added to any additional renal disease, this may cause permanent glomerular damage. As is apparent from the list below, many high-protein foods (indeed, most low-carb foods with protein) are fairly low in fiber. This can lead to discomfort if additional roughage is not added to the diet. Protein is described as essential by advocates of the high-protein diet, which includes a large proportion of the bodybuilding community; it is claimed to provide the muscle with amino acids required to repair the damage done by anaerobic exercise. High protein consumption leads to increased levels of IGF-1, a hormone which, among other things, increases muscle protein synthesis. Some consume protein supplements after bodybuilding workouts, as they provide a quick and easily consumable protein source. Alternatively, meat, beans, or other high-protein foods are consumed. It is possible to maintain a strict vegan high-protein diet, though due to the lower protein density of plant-based foods this requires a larger absolute volume of food compared to a non-vegan diet; simply put, vegans must consume a lot more food to get a lot of protein. Legumes and soy foods are two vegan sources with high protein content per calorie. Vegans may engage in protein combining to obtain a complete mix of amino acids. Although some testing shows that the body will absorb and use a greater amount of protein after "bodybuilding" type exercises than under more sedentary circumstances, and some studies on weight training show clinically significant gains in muscle with a very high protein diet when compared to more moderate intake, in some studies increased protein intake fails to translate into functional differences in strength or muscle size. However, consistently consuming less protein than an individual's body requires (approximately 0.7g/kg/day for a sedentary individual) causes loss of existing lean body mass, even with an excessively caloric diet.

What Gall! The Crazy Cribs of Parasitic Wasps | Deep Look
Plenty of animals build their homes in oak trees. But some very teeny, tricky wasps make the tree do all the work. And each miniature mansion the trees build for the wasps' larvae is weirder and more flamboyant than the next. SUBSCRIBE to Deep Look! http://goo.gl/8NwXqt DEEP LOOK: a ultra-HD (4K) short video series created by KQED San Francisco and presented by PBS Digital Studios. See the unseen at the very edge of our visible world. Get a new perspective on our place in the universe and meet extraordinary new friends. Explore big scientific mysteries by going incredibly small. * NEW VIDEOS EVERY OTHER TUESDAY! * “What nerve!” you might say. What… gall! And you’d be right. The wasps are called gall-inducers. ---+ What do oak galls look like? If you’ve ever spent a Summer or Fall around oak trees – such as the stalwart Valley Oak – Quercus lobata, or the stately Blue Oak, Quercus douglasii – you may be familiar with the large, vaguely fruity-looking objects clinging to the branches and leaves. Commonly called oak apples, these growths are the last thing you’d want to put in your mouth. They are intensely bitter, loaded with tannin compounds – the same compounds that in modest amounts give red wine its pleasant dryness, and tea its refreshing earthy tang. That said, the oak apple’s powerful astringency has been prized for millennia. Tanning leather, making ink or dye, and cleaning wounds have been but a few of the gall’s historical uses. But on closer inspection of these oaks – and many other plants and trees such as willows, alders, manzanitas, or pines – you can find a rogue’s gallery of smaller galls. Carefully peeking under leaves, along the stems and branches, or around the flower buds and acorns will likely lead you to unexpected finds. Smooth ones. Spiky ones. Long skinny ones, flat ones, lumpy, boxy ones. From the size of a golf ball down to that of a poppy seed. These structures wear shades of yellow, green, brown, purple, pink and red – and sometimes all of the above. A single tree may be host to dozens of types of gall, each one caused by a specific organism. And their shapes range from the sublime to the downright creepy. One tree may be encrusted with them, like a Christmas tree laden with ornaments and tinsel; and the next tree over may be almost completely free of galls. Why? It’s a mystery. ---+ How do oak galls form? Galls are generally formed when an insect, or its larvae, introduce chemicals into a specific location, to push the plant’s growth hormones into overdrive. This can result in a great profusion of normal cells, increased size of existing cells, or the alteration of entire plant structures into new, alien forms. Lots of creatures cause them; midges, mites, aphids, flies, even bacteria and viruses. But the undisputed champs are a big family of little wasps called Cynipids– rarely exceeding the size of a mosquito, a quarter of an inch in length. “These tiny wasps cannot sting,” says Dr. Kathy Schick, Assistant Specialist/Curatorial Assistant at the Essig Museum of Entomology at UC Berkeley. “Gall-inducers are fascinating in that they are very specialized to their organ of the host plant.” ---+ What are oak galls? These wasp houses are not homes exactly, but more akin to nurseries. The galls serve as an ideal environment for wasp larvae, whether it is a single offspring, or dozens. The tree is tricked into generating outsize amounts of soft, pillowy tissue inside each gall, on which the larvae gladly gorge themselves as they grow. How Do Food Comas Work?
What's the science behind food comas? Why are they associated with Thanksgiving? Learn more at HowStuffWorks.com: http://science.howstuffworks.com/innovation/edible-innovations/question519.htm Share on Facebook: http://goo.gl/xm8gOj Share on Twitter: http://goo.gl/s481R2 Subscribe: http://goo.gl/ZYI7Gt Visit our site: http://www.brainstuffshow.com Ben Franklin once said, “Eat not to dullness, drink not to elevation.” The American Founding Fathers are frequently a confounding lot, but this one seems pretty straightforward: Ben Franklin was suggesting it’s best not to get wasted when you drink and not to eat until you enter a food coma. Although he was aware of its existence, Ben Franklin could no more explain the food coma than modern science can today. It’s a mystery of biology. But this hasn’t stopped scientists from slapping a clinical term on it: postprandium somnolence. Post meaning “after” and “prandium” from the Latin for luncheon. It describes the sensation of getting sleepy after a big meal. But food comas are counterintuitive. After we stuff our stomachs with lots of calories, we should have an increase in energy, not a sudden decrease. And, following this logic, the more we eat, the more energetic we should be, no? Mysterious indeed. One food coma hypotheses is that the introduction of lots of food to the gut causes the body to redirect blood there to aid in digestion. Some of this redirected blood is taken from the brain, which leaves the human who’s recently eaten a big meal in a stupor. Sounds logical and hilarious, but, unfortunately, it’s wrong. Because it’s so important (and, possibly, because it’s the organ in charge of directing blood flow) the brain receives a steady supply of blood to meet its energy demands. While it is true that your gut receives more blood flow to aid in digestion, it comes from the skeletal muscles, not the brain. How about another one? The tryptophan myth. This one is commonly believed because so many people experience the food coma on Thanksgiving, and turkey – which contains lots of tryptophan – is a common feature of the Thanksgiving meals that lead to food comas. Tryptophan is an amino acid that is a precursor to serotonin, which is a neurotransmitter that is a precursor to melatonin, which is a hormone that aids in sleep. The logic goes that when eating a big turkey dinner, we eat a lot of tryptophan, which is ultimately converted to melatonin; hence the food coma. The problem with this hypothesis is that there’s more tryptophan in lots of other foods, like cheddar cheese, bacon, salmon and chicken that we don’t normally associate with food comas. Researchers believe that we’d have to ingest tryptophan alone on an empty stomach to notice any effect. When we eat it in food, it enters competition with all of the other fats, proteins and amino acids in food. So less of it gets absorbed and converted into melatonin. BUT! There is some science behind the Thanksgiving food coma. It turns out that when we eat lots of carbohydrates – like we do on Thanksgiving – the insulin released causes other proteins and amino acids to be absorbed by the muscles, but leaves the tryptophan untouched and in greater concentrations in the blood. This could ultimately produce a postprandium somnolent effect. And then there’s orexin. One of this neurotransmitter’s roles is to promote wakefulness and when the neurons that make it are turned off, we get drowsy. A 2006 study found that even modest increases in blood glucose – which rises when we eat – can lead to a decrease in orexin. So perhaps this is the key to food comas. For the time being, though, the jury is still out: We know food comas happen, we just don’t know how. So let’s order some wings and pizza and do some more science! Instead of trying to push his own agenda, he’s got humanity’s best interest at heart. *In This Episode, You Will Learn: How Dr. Hyman sees food affecting our environment (8:13) When Dr. Hyman’s opinion was influenced by the food industry (12:59) What Dr. Hyman, being a functional doctor, sees as the root of disease (16:38) The question Dr. Hyman asks himself when food shopping (25:00) What Dr. Hyman sees as the greater footprint beyond your own health (28:24) How Dr. Hyman sees the power of the individual vs. the food system (34:00) What Dr. Hyman sees as the problems with grouping disease by symptoms and not causes (38:15) Plus much more… Let me know what you think as well by subscribing on social media: You can follow Lewis at: Website: http://lewishowes.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/lewishowes/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/lewishowes/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/LewisHowes SnapChat: https://snapchat.com/add/LewisHowes ----- Lewis Howes' New Book - The Mask of Masculinity https://lewishowes.com/man ----- Show notes available here: http://lewishowes.com/616 ----- Lewis Howes is NY Times Bestselling author, entrepreneur, and former professional Arena League football player. Modern Times: Camille Paglia & Jordan B Peterson
Dr. Camille Paglia is a well-known American intellectual and social critic. She has been a professor at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (where this discussion took place) since 1984. She is the author of seven books focusing on literature, visual art, music, and film history, among other topics. The most well-known of these is Sexual Personae (http://amzn.to/2xVGEEV), an expansion of her highly original doctoral thesis at Yale. The newest, Free Women, Free Men: Sex, Gender, Feminism, was published by Pantheon Books in March 2017 (http://amzn.to/2hGycTG). Dr. Paglia has been warning about the decline and corruption of the modern humanities for decades, and she is a serious critic of the postmodern ethos that currently dominates much of academia. Although she is a committed equity feminist, she firmly opposes the victim/oppressor narrative that dominates much of modern American and British feminism. In this wide-ranging discussion, we cover (among other topics) the pernicious influence of the French intellectuals of the 1970's on the American academy, the symbolic utility of religious tradition, the tendency toward intellectual conformity and linguistic camouflage among university careerists, the under-utilization of Carl Jung and his student, Erich Neumann, in literary criticism and the study of the humanities, and the demolition of the traditional roles and identity of men and women in the West. 5 Dangerous Mistakes of Using Nutritional Supplements (Part 1)
This lecture reviews the safe use of nutritional supplements by way of balancing your body chemistry. CLICK Here for more info: http://mdwellnessmd.com/about-us/ How do we facilitate the journey to long lasting health and well-being? We first have to identify those factors in the patient’s internal environment (dietary practices, genetic predispositions, hormonal imbalances, and metabolic imbalances) and external environment (biotoxin exposure like molds, hidden infections or heavy metals) that may be underlying causes of medical issues. The next priority is to administer nutritional supplements that are carefully chosen (not to treat symptoms) but to help shift the body back towards a balanced state. The biggest mistake is thinking that self-medicating any form of nutrients or over the counter Vitamins will lead to healthy results. German/Nat A leading scientist at one of the world's top sporting institutes believes doping among cyclists is on a par with swimmers. Professor Doctor Wilhelm Schaenzer, head of the Bio Chemistry Institute at Germany's Sport University, says drug misuse has been a problem in professional sport since the 1970s. He warned that sport stars taking drugs are dicing with death in the long-term. The Bio Chemistry Institute at Germany's Sport University is where many of the samples from top athletes end up for analysis. The International Olympic Committee has charged the laboratory here with undertaking tests on many of the world's top sporting stars. The institute was set up by Dr Manfred Donike who pioneered research on the effect of drugs on performance in sport. Professor Doctor Wilhelm Schaenzer, the head of the institute, says the methods for detecting traces of drugs has improved dramatically over the years. SOUNDBITE: (German) "It of course depends on which substance that we work. The stimulating products that were used in the past are from several types of amphetamines but this we can easily check. It is generally known that when you use these products there is an overheating of your energy reserves which in the past has led to deaths." SUPERCAPTION: Professor Doctor Wilhelm Schaenzer, Head of the Bio Chemistry Institute at Germany's Sport University Dr Schaenzer warned that there may be long-term side effects for sportsmen and women using certain drugs. He highlighted the danger of heart problems from anabolic steroids. SOUNDBITE: (German) "Misuse of anabolic steroids is also reasonably easy to trace because it stays a long time in the body but it can have a negative impact on your liver. It's used mainly in amateur body building which indicates that for a short period of time you heavily use these products. We don't have enough knowledge yet about the long term impact of these products but we are strengthening our efforts into studying this problem. With regard to hormones we must stress that if EPO is taken in an uncontrolled way by the athlete while it can lead to a thickening of the blood which while it will increase your energy level it might also lead to heart problems." SUPERCAPTION: Professor Doctor Wilhelm Schaenzer, Head of the Bio Chemistry Institute at Germany's Sport University There is clearly a strong temptation at the top sporting level to take performance enhancing drugs when the rewards, particularly financial, can be so great. As a result, there are few sports that have managed to stay clear of this problem. SOUNDBITE: (German) "We have always had problems in professional sports so therefore we introduced controls in 1967. Stimulating products can easily be controlled. The same goes for anabolic steroids. We can say that the percentage of positive use in cycling is at the same level as in swimming competitions." Professor Doctor Wilhelm Schaenzer, Head of the Bio Chemistry Institute at Germany's Sport University The doping scandal currently surrounding this year's Tour de France will only increase calls for tighter monitoring of drug use in all sports. 5 Everyday Questions You’ve Always Wondered About (With Answers)
5 Everyday Questions You’ve Always Wondered About - Answered There are some questions that we always wonder about, but we never gotten the answer to, Are your questions on this list? 5 Everyday Questions You’ve Always Wondered About SUBSCRIBE - http://bit.ly/R1vvcg SHARE THIS VIDEO - http://on.fb.me/1wy3g68 --------------- Check out our website - http://plethrons.com Like us on Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/PlethronsChannel Follow us on Twitter - https://twitter.com/plethrons --------------- Questions, Answers and References --------------- Why Do Airplanes Have Ashtrays When Smoking is Banned? Despite the fact that smoking is forbidden in almost every airline in the world, airplanes still have ashtrays in them because it is required by the FAA. Even though smoking is banned and airplanes are fitted with smoke alarms, the FAA knew that some people would still smoke. So providing a place for people to safely dispose of their cigarettes was deemed too important for safety reasons. http://www.law.cornell.edu/cfr/text/14/25.853 http://www.flightglobal.com/FlightPDFArchive/1976/1976%20-%200657.PDF --------------- Why Does Rubbing Alcohol on Cuts Makes Them Burn? This happens because alcohol directly affects the VR1 receptors in the skin, these receptors are responsible for sensing heat, and alcohol lowers the threshold of these receptors, so as a result, they start thinking that the body is getting burned and starts transmitting pain signals to the brain. http://chemistry.about.com/od/medicalhealth/a/Why-Does-Alcohol-Burn-On-A-Cut-Or-Wound.htm http://www.nature.com/neuro/journal/v5/n6/abs/nn852.html --------------- Why Dreams are Hard to Remember?* During REM sleep, where most dreaming takes place, the brain prevents anything from getting into the long-term memory. Also, the hormone Norepinephrine's levels drop during REM sleep, which is a hormone that plays a key role in creating new memories. And another factor that contributes to the poor recall of dreams is that during REM sleep, neurons from the hippocampus may not fire as often as they do at other times. Which is why dreams quickly fade after waking up. http://www.scientificamerican.com/article/why-do-memories-of-vivid-dreams/ http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2009/02/090225132249.htm --------------- Why Do People Sneeze When Looking At A Bright Light? While the exact reason for why third of the population experiences Photic sneeze reflex is still not well understood. The most wildly accepted theory is that the optic nerve that senses light is located right next to the trigeminal nerve that controls sneezing. When the optic nerve sends electrical impulses to the brain, the signal triggers the trigeminal nerve, confusing the brain into thinking the nose is irritated and a sneeze is necessary http://www.scientificamerican.com/article/looking-at-the-sun-can-trigger-a-sneeze/ http://www.livescience.com/32307-why-do-bright-lights-make-me-sneeze.html http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8108024 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photic_sneeze_reflex --------------- Why Do Stores Blast Air at Entrances? It's hard not to notice the blast of air you get when you enter a store. These air curtains are designed to keep the temperature in a building steady by preventing air from getting in or out, they're mostly used in places where doors need to remain open most of the time, and they also prevent any insects or bad smells from getting into the store http://www.dimplex.co.uk/products/commercial_heating/air_curtain_heating_explained.htm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_door --------------- What Do the Numbers on a Barcode Mean? The lines and numbers you find on just about every product you buy are called UPC, and they're designed to speed up the checkout process. The first six digits serve as an identification of the manufacturer, the next five digits are the item number, and the last digit is a "Check Digit" that lets scanners know whether they've read the code correctly or not. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/03/19/everyday-things-explained_n_4943908.html http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/gadgets/high-tech-gadgets/upc.htm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_Product_Code --------------- Music: Transcendence By TimMcMorris - http://audiojungle.net/item/transcendence/180570 ---------------

Introduction/The Complex Brain Circuitry Underlying Pain
In this clip (1 of 10), M. Catherine Bushnell, Ph.D., Scientific Director of the Division of Intramural Research, NCCAM, is introduced and discusses what happens in the brain when someone experiences pain. The brain has naturally occurring modulatory systems for pain that are activated by various drugs. This clip is part of a lecture, "The Neural Basis of Mind-Body Pain Therapies," given at NIH in 2013. It is part of the NCCAM Online Continuing Education Series, and free CME/CEU credit is available to health professionals (see http://nccam.nih.gov/training/videolectures).

Testers, Pacing, Splitting Sessions, Top 5 Coaching Principles & More | Ask Max El-Hag | Episode 2
Below are all the questions from a September 5, 2017 IG post answered "rapid fire" style by Max El-Hag in part 2 of this 5 part series. 00:25 - How do you split the sessions for a competitive athlete and how much that change in the competitive season? 01:10 - Are you accepting interns/apprenticeship at TTT? Been following all the media and would love to be apart of it all 01:39 - Is the mentor ship program still on the table in your developmental programs? 02:12 - When are you going to recruit athletes to the gym, (from the video you had around the games) 02:42 - How do you go about programming "testers"? Or measure an athletes progress in their capacity to perform certain movements or domains? What formats do you use, are they interval repeats, death by.., etc. Is the format the same every time you test an athlete? 04:34 - Have you picked up any new elite athletes since the Games? 06:05 - Have you come to a conclusion as to whether you think it's better to always pace workouts or to sometimes front load the work in a workout? 06:40 - Do you think crossfitters have reached their peak weightlifting numbers? Or will they eventually start to approach the numbers that olympic weightlifters hit? 07:26 - Let's say you had an 18 year old come to you who said I want to go to/win the crossfit games. S/he has an athletic background in some sort of sport at a high level, understands the commitment, has the drive to do it etc but has never done any (or very little) strength and conditioning work. In the most ideal situation how would you plan for this athlete to succeed? How many years of prehab, technique focus, mono structural work would you think to put in before crossfit sport specific work and how many years would you aim the program around to accomplish that goal 09:09 - The 3 most important things a coach should provide to his athletes? 10:09 - do you see crossfit backing off the intensity level a bit. and putting some focus on "practice". and if not do you think it should or stay with what made it what it is today? 11:39 - Given that you have openly expressed your love for writing in your blog, have you ever thought of writing a handbook on CF training? Is that even possible given the current state of knowledge on the sport or CF is evolving so fast that it will never allow for a comprehensive study? 12:50 - Really enjoyed the video from your YouTube channel on the Regional Events. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the Games Events and what was your approach with both Travis (Trevor) and Noah 15:11 - When you decide to start a remote coaching program what do you expect from the athletes? 16:43 - When, if ever will you guys be releasing anything with affiliate programming? 18:34 - What are the top 5 training "principles" all athletes and coaches should follow? And, which one is most often overlooked? 22:10 - How do you count the volume (weekly / month etc ...) of a strength training, but with a metcon for the energy system that has weights, at the end of the cycle do you count this volume together? (i.e. WB in metcon, do you count UB push 50x, same as bench press?) How do you deal with this volume coming from Metcon? I ask because it ends up finding a very large variable, which can interfere with your strength training or energy system, as well as many others. (if possible details rsrsrs) 2nd - How much volume do you decide to start? 70% of test results, how much does it increase from week-week? (I know it depends on the athlete but ..)

Dr. Rau: Treating Tick-Borne and Chronic Infectious Diseases with Biological Medicine
http://www.biologicalmedicinenetwork.org Lyme and tick-borne diseases are an escalating public health issue that may be on track to be the next epidemic. In the last 5-8 years, we have seen an enormous increase of Lyme Disease patients, especially on the East Coast. What aggravates this disease is that the symptoms expressed vary from person to person and the lab diagnoses are too often not accurate. Dr. Thomas Rau and the Paracelsus Clinic in Switzerland have successfully treated many chronic and sick Lyme patients with biological medicine. Interestingly, all severely ill Lyme patients had co-infections and other disabling factors, which were the underlying causes for their severe disorder. These underlying causes include: - Heavy metal and other toxic loads, mainly neuro-toxins - Severe dysbiosis and intestinal weaknesses, which leads to a break down in the immune system - Chronic viral loads, mainly neurotropic slow acting viruses and remainders of immunizations - Side-effects from long term antibiotics, including the presence of cell wall deficient bacteria, which themselves cause chronic problems - Genetic lack of detoxification and/or anti-oxidant quelling capacity - Severe lack of certain amino acids and unsaturated fatty acids, due to poor nutrition or metabolic weaknesses. Dr. Rau has treated many patients, all without antibiotics, but with detoxification protocols, like up building the immune system, inner organs and hormonal and adrenal system, finding and eliminating neuro- and lymphtropic viruses and integrating Live Cell Therapies, exclusively used at the Paracelsus Clinic in Lustmühle, Switzerland. The success rate of the treatment has been very high if done very intensively for 2-4 weeks and continued at home for several months. It is a very individualized program which always has to integrate a combination of different treatment modalities.
