Mobile Phones May Soon Test for STIs and Blood Pressure

03:59
I'm Alex Villarreal with the VOA Special English Technology Report, from http://voaspecialenglish.com | http://facebook.com/voalearningenglish Mobile phone technology is quickly changing the way the world operates. Today, we tell about two new projects involving mobile health, also known as m-health. Doctors and technology experts in London are developing a new way to test for sexual infections. The new device uses mobile phones and computers to help people find out if they have been infected with a sexual disease. People will be able to perform the test in the privacy of their own homes. People place urine or saliva on a small piece of paper. They place the test strip in a small device that contains a computer chip. Then they place the device in their mobile phone or a computer for testing. Within minutes, they receive information telling them if they have a sexual disease. And they receive advice on what to do next. Claudia Estcourt is with Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry. She is also part of the research team working on the project. She says: "This isn't designed to replace traditional clinics. This is really opening testing up to people who might find it embarrassing or difficult to get into their clinic."Health experts say many young people are too ashamed to visit a clinic to be tested. This increases the risk of them passing on sexual diseases. The researchers hope the tests will help persuade people to be tested and reduce the number of sexually transmitted infections. Dr. Estcourt says the project is still seven to ten years away from completion. But she says it holds great promise for the future, especially in developing countries. In other news, researchers at the University of Toronto in Canada are studying a mobile phone system that may help people with diabetes control their blood pressure. The system collects blood pressure readings from home testing devices that have wireless technology. The readings are then sent to a health-care monitoring system. Patients receive a mobile phone message telling them how they are doing. If their blood pressure is too high, they are advised to make an appointment with their doctor. Several high readings will cause the system to automatically contact the doctor. Patients in the study used the mobile phone system for one year. The researchers found that thirty-seven percent of the patients were able to get their blood pressure under control. This compares with about fourteen percent of patients using common equipment. The heart, blood pressure and cardiology in general is not something to be trifled with. Kardiofit is a new blood pressure monitor for those of you suffering with either heart conditions or high blood pressure. The difference with this technology is that it comes with a home blood pressure monitor that allows you to test yourself. The Techbusters team visited the offices of Dr Riaz Motara to discover that you can never be too careful when it comes to your blood pressure.

Can a smartphone replace your doctor?

03:53
Can a smartphone replace your doctor? Cardiologist Dr Eric Topol is a practitioner of the future of medical consultation - equipped with a smartphone and some sensors. One of his patients - Bill Sousa - has recently had heart surgery and Dr Topol is showing him how they can remotely monitor his recovery. The doctor has one sensor that check the rhythm of his heart and another that clips over the tip of his finger to determine the oxygen level in his blood stream. The sensors connect to a smart phone and a specialised app sends the results to the cardiologist's office. Dr Topol explained: "Instead of having it [the equipment] at a hospital for $3,000 - that's what it costs, or more, in some places it's up to $7,000 - you would just use your phone with this app." He has developed several of these phone apps himself, convinced they are about to revolutionise medicine itself. Dr Topol says he is now prescribing more smartphone apps than drugs so he can easily follow his patients' progress from a distance. For patients like Bill Sousa, who lives more than an hour's drive away from the hospital, linking up to a tablet allows him to check his blood pressure twice a day. He is delighted with how easy it is: "It [the app] automatically sends it [the data] to my doctor, on a weekly basis. So, that's all I have to do." The device is a real money saver in the US, where medical treatment costs more than anywhere else in the world.. Dr Topol and his apps are part of a trend. Soterra Wireless, a San Diego based company, has developed a portable monitoring which is already being tested in a number of hospitals. Soterra's Garry Manning explained how it works: "It's able to show all of the vital signs of the patient: his heart rate, blood pressure, breathing rate, saturation of oxygen, skin temperature..." And the patient's doctor is able to follow-up in real time, via a smart phone, even if the person being monitored is on the other side of the world. Manning said the device can speed up the process and help diagnosis: "Now, they get that information immediately, so they can make very quick decisions. Eventually, we of course, as other companies may do, will be able to take that information and be able to start to predict the patient's deterioration, ahead of time." The ultimate goal is to be able to predict someone's medical future. Dr Topol believes that soon we wil be able to detect diseases with sensors placed on or under our skin: "Someday, maybe five years from now, we will have tiny nano-sensors in the blood. They could detect cancer showing up for the first time in the blood." What if in the future those devices could replace doctors - diagnosing and anticipating? Imagine your son has a rash. A small device identifies it, says it is benign and advises some rest. Or your daughter doesn't feel well. A sensor takes her body temperature, and analyses a urine sample. This time the app recommends a visit to the hospital as soon as possible and give you directions to the nearest one. euronews knowledge brings you a fresh mix of the world's most interesting know-hows, directly from space and sci-tech experts. Best Intestinal Colon Cleansing Products in Johannesburg | Pretoria | South Africa

00:46
Best intestinal & Colon cleansing products in South Africa visit www.imsyser.co.za The Imsyser Intestinal Cleanse is the best cleanser. With correct detoxing we can get rid of this mucus and years old waste by doing a deep intestinal cleanse. Anything we ingest that our bodies have difficulty with is normally covered with mucus as a defensive reaction – this could include the many chemicals used in our food production to the preservatives used in vaccines. This mucus and waste would normally be expelled into the toilet. Unfortunately many of us do not consume enough fibre and water in our diet with the result that the mucus and waste builds up in thick layers within our small intestines and colon. By the time we’re adults we could be walking around with kilos of putrid waste in our bodies that we’re not even aware of. Just one of the bad things this waste does is to interfere with nutrient absorption. This is why unhealthy conditions persist even when we change to healthier diets. We could be eating very healthily and taking all kinds of health supplements – but how much is really getting absorbed? Another serious consequence is on our moods and emotions. 90% of the ‘feel good’ hormone serotonin is produced in the small intestines – are you moody and sometimes depressed? Your serotonin levels may be low due to this waste. Dr Bernard Jensen who is a respected authority on intestinal cleansing explains – The heavy mucus coating thickens and becomes a host of putrefaction. The blood capillaries to the intestines begin to pick up the toxins, poisons and noxious debris as it seeps through the bowel wall. All tissues and organs of the body are now taking on toxic substances. You now have auto-intoxication. This is when your body becomes so polluted that you poison yourself from the inside. When we have these sewer like conditions within our bodies it should be no surprise that we develop illness and suffer conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, asthma, gout, low energy and general ill health. With correct detoxing we can get rid of this mucus and years old waste by doing a deep intestinal cleanse. Depending upon age and other factors this can take several weeks to several months. Doing the cleanse can start reversing the damage and allow the body to heal many adverse conditions. The cleanse will involve taking quality fibres and herbs on a daily basis with plenty of water. You can work and follow you’re regular diet. When the mucus and waste starts coming out you will see it in the toilet. It will often be floating and looks like ropey fat. It will also have the shape of the intestines because it’s been inside you for years. Another part of the body that gets congested is the liver and gall bladder. Cleansing of these important organs can also give amazing health benefits. The liver is the main chemical and hormone factory of the body and has over 500 functions. These functions include the controlling of cholesterol levels and the activation and deactivation of hormones not to mention its role in the digestion process. You may have heard about gall stones. These calcified stones are hard and easily seen with x-ray. Before the stones calcify and harden they are soft and cannot be seen on x-ray. The majority of us may have many soft stones choking our liver and gall bladder. This can be proven by doing a 1 day cleanse called a liver and gall bladder flush which ejects the stones into the toilet the following morning. Depending upon age and other factors this can take several weeks to several months. Doing the cleanse can start reversing the damage and allow the body to heal many adverse conditions. The cleanse will involve taking quality fibres and herbs on a daily basis with plenty of water. The Imsyser Intestinal Cleanse will also help you cleanse your intestinal with ease. With this model we have created a "safe" place for Black men to come and seek services. Project Brotherhood goals are to increase the health awareness in black men, with PB's definition of health being: complete physical, mental, social, economic and spiritual well being. Project Brotherhood's mission is to increase the health awareness in Black men by training Black men & providing preventive health messages & literature in a cultural & gender specific way (age specific when necessary). With this new awareness Black men are more likely to go for health screening and testing. This may lead to an early diagnosis and PB knows Black men die from disease due to late or "no" diagnosis at all. Whether it is on the baseball field, basketball court, or just hanging on the corner, Project Brotherhood has become a trusted source of health information and services for men on the south side of Chicago. Project Brotherhood has presented its program and research at a wide variety of professional conferences. Addressing hypertension in rural KwaZulu-Natal

01:36
Hypertension, also referred to as high blood pressure, is a major risk factor for cardiovascular, cerebrovascular, and renal diseases. This group of diseases count among some of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality. For Dr Olumuyiwa Olowe, a Registrar at the Department of Family Medicine at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), the challenge is that it is affecting vulnerable communities even in cases where it can be treated successfully. His research holds potential to lay a foundation towards solutions to serve rural areas.

A young man was diagnosed with diabetes and high blood pressure four years ago. He was given to take insulin and high blood pressure pills, but it was without any succeed. What actually helped him in overcoming his illness, was a complete change in his nutrition, he started consuming raw fruits and vegetables. The man discovered his illness four years ago, by accident. He was constantly feeling an enormous thirst, and went to the doctor. When he took the results from the analyses he had made, he was really taken aback. The results showed that his sugar level was 29, which was much more above the normal, his pancreas was dysfunctional and taking insulin was inevitable. It was a must to face up to his reality-the diabetes. Unwillingly, but he started taking his daily doses of insulin, and took part in some sports activities. Not only that the treatment wasn’t helpful, but his condition was getting worse and worse. He had a hypertension, his blood pressure was up to 150/100, his triglyceride levels increased up to 16, and the amount of pills he took daily was huge. On New Year’s Eve, 2013, as he was watching a TV show named “The Edge of Science” in which the guest was Dr. John Zirdum who lived on raw foods for 12 years, he decided to end the mess of his life and start a new chapter. After watching carefully the show, and reconsidering his thoughts, he decided to make a fresh beginning. He started his new life by buying a blender, and introducing a complete change in his diet. The first seven days were a huge temptation, but successful. He couldn’t believe that his first results after a short period of time of consuming these foods showed his blood sugar level to have dropped to 5. He decided to stop taking insulin immediately. Maintaining such a diet will balance his blood sugar levels. In case if the levels get increased, he would take insulin. Fortunately, everything was going as planned. The treatment soon showed results, he started losing weight, every day a kilo less. Only after 25 days of consuming this diet he lost 11 kilos, and after four months he was completely a new man. He was no longer using insulin, his blood pressure was stabilized to 120/70, his triglycerides level was 1.4. Today he lives without a single pill, and with 20 kilos less. What a fantastic feeling! On the list of all the ingredients he consumed, there was a juice which was his favorite! Here is the recipe: Ingredients: – 5 kiwis – a handful of kale – 2 apples – 2 bananas – half a liter of water Pour all the ingredients with that half a liter of water. Start your day with half a liter of that juice, and the rest of it you should drink during the day. Whenever you feel hungry eat fruit, fruit salads and tuna. Tuna will improve the level of vitamin B12 in your body, which is essential for a healthy organism. The best thing about the diet is that there is no hunger, since the brain does not know that the stomach is empty. You have got everything you need inside your blood, and the brain gets that information through it.

Close up: signboard of the Roadside Wellness Centre STORYLINE: Medical workers are taking the fight against AIDS to Africa's highways - a major conduit for the spread of HIV through the continent. Roadside "Wellness Centres" are being set up in truck stops as part of a new programme to educate sex workers and truck drivers about the disease. The South African trucking industry has been hit hard by the AIDS pandemic in a country where an estimated 4.5 (m) million people are affected according to the United Nations. Now the industry has teamed with government in a joint strategy to educate drivers and prostitutes who ply their trade along the highways. While the "Wellness Centres" focus on AIDS-related illnesses, they also offer routine medical care and counselling. One such clinic has recently opened on the N3 Highway, a major trucking artery linking the cities of Johannesburg and Durban, in the small town of Harrismith. The centre takes care of the medical needs of local sex-workers, passing truck drivers, and residents of the local community. It also provides education and counselling on HIV and AIDS, and in addition provides both male and female condoms. The busy truck stop, which is situated on the outskirts of the town, has a mobile Wellness Centre housed in 2 transport containers. The services offered to truck drivers, prostitutes, and members of the community are provided by trained staff from the South African Department of Health and qualified volunteers . You probably have high blood pressure (hypertension) if your blood pressure readings are consistently 140 over 90, or higher, over a number of weeks. You may also have high blood pressure if just one of the numbers is higher than it should be over a number of weeks. If you have high blood pressure, this higher pressure puts extra strain on your heart and blood vessels. Over time, this extra strain increases your risk of a heart attack or stroke. High blood pressure can also cause heart and kidney disease, and is closely linked to some forms of dementia. You can check your blood pressure on our Blood Pressure Chart. What are the signs and symptoms of high blood pressure? High blood pressure usually has no signs or symptoms, so the only way to know if you have high blood pressure is to have yours measured. However, a single high reading does not necessarily mean you have high blood pressure. Many things can affect your blood pressure through the day, so your doctor will take a number of blood pressure readings to see that it stays high over time. Occasionally people with very high blood pressure say they experience headaches, but it is best to visit your GP if you are concerned about symptoms. What causes high blood pressure? For most people, there may be no single cause for their high blood pressure. We do not know exactly what causes high blood pressure. We do know that your lifestyle can affect your risk of developing it. You are at a higher risk if: you eat too much salt; you don’t eat enough fruit and vegetables; you are not active enough; you are overweight; or you drink too much alcohol. You can help to lower your blood pressure - and your risk of stroke and heart attack - by making lifestyle changes. Additional causes of high blood pressure There are some factors that increase your risk of developing high blood pressure, which you cannot control. These include: Age: as you get older, the effects of an unhealthy lifestyle can build up and your blood pressure can increase. Ethnic origin: people from African-Caribbean and South Asian communities are at greater risk than other people of high blood pressure. Family history: you are at greater risk if other members of your family have, or have had, high blood pressure. Some people may have high blood pressure that is linked to another medical condition, such as kidney problems. For these people treating the medical problem may lower their blood pressure back to normal. More on Treatments for High Blood Pressure. More on blood pressure What is blood pressure? Why it's important to know your numbers

02:42
MADISONVILLE, Ohio (WKRC) - There's a warning from local health care providers about knowing your numbers, like blood pressure and cholesterol. Fifth-Third in Madisonville teamed up with the American Heart Association and Mercy Health to learn more about knowing their numbers. Amanda Changet from the American Heart Assocation said, "Blood pressure is the silent killer; over 50 percent of Americans have hypertension and half of those might not even know it." The reason you need to have information like blood pressure numbers tested is that you can't feel it if they are high. Recent guidelines lowered the suggested blood pressure range, which means you could be at risk for a stroke and still feel fine. "A lot of the things that we are screened for really don't cause any symptoms until years down the line when they end up resulting in a heart problem or a stroke or something like that. So the idea really is to catch these contributing factors before they cause some damage. So the only way to do that if you're not having any symptoms is to have a regular visit with a physician," said Dr. David Nartker from Mercy Health That was one of the reasons Amy Hasse decided to check her blood pressure. "I'm getting older," she said. "So I thought I really need to start paying attention to whats going on." Blood pressure, cholesterol, weight and other inflammation markers can't be felt in the body, so they have to be measured. The good news is that simple changes to diet and exercise can often bring them down if you catch them before the damage is done. For Amy Hasse, this is encouraging. "I wasn't horrible, but I wasn't where I should be," she said. When it comes to her own blood pressure, it's good news. Tests say her number is lower than it used to be.

STRONGEST Animal Bites Ever!

Hippopotamus When we think of hippos, we think of large, cute herbivores who spend their whole day in the water. The word Hippopotamus comes from the Greek “water-horse” due to the hippo’s fondness for water. The hippo’s closest cousins are whales and cows, but don't let these innocent relations fool you. The hippo is one of the most feared animals in Africa. Highly territorial and aggressive, hippos have been known to knock over small boats and attack the crew. Only the female hippos bite force has been measured since the male was much too aggressive to test, but it measured at a whopping 1821 pounds per square inch. A former tour guide once told the story of how he was attacked by a bull hippo while kayaking on the Zambezi River near Victoria Falls. Half of his body ended up in the mouth of the hippo. He managed to get free, only for the hippo to attack again. Eventually, the hippo got bored with his new toy and spat the man out. The only reason he survived was because a medical team happened to be nearby. 8. Komodo Dragon In 1969, an American biologist named Walter Auffenberg moved to the Indonesian island of Komodo to study its most famous resident—the Komodo dragon. Considered the largest in the world, the Komodo dragon can grow up to 3 meters (9 feet) and can take down large prey like deer and water buffalo. Auffenberg spent a year on the island observing the real life dragon and wrote about their mythical powers. Auffenberg noticed that large animals injured by the dragons soon developed infections. Based on this observation, and no actual evidence, he suggested that the dragons had a bacteria as a form of venom. This explanation became widespread and can still be found in textbooks, wildlife documentaries, zoo placards, and more. But….it’s not true. In 2009, Bryan Fry from the University of Queensland discovered the true culprit behind the dragon’s bite. He put a Komodo dragon in a medical scanner, which couldn’t have been easy! It turns out the dragon has venom glands, which are loaded with toxins that lower blood pressure, cause massive bleeding, prevent clotting and induce shock. Rather than using bacteria as venom, the dragons use...venom as venom. Based on a thorough analysis of the dragon’s skull, Fry thinks that they with a grip, rip and drip tactic. They bite down with serrated teeth and pull back with powerful neck muscles. The result: huge wounds. The venom then quickens the loss of blood and sends the prey into shock. Pretty horrifying even without the bacteria. Komodos do bite people but only rarely, probably since most people aren’t hanging around Komodo dragons anyway. In 2015, a captive juvenile Komodo dragon bit an Omaha zookeeper. Luckily, though, the zookeeper survived because she received medical attention immediately. 7. King Cobra The King Cobra is the world’s longest venomous snake. It grows up to 5.6 m (18.5 ft) in length. Its Latin name, Ophio-phagus, literally means “snake-eater” since it eats other snakes, which makes it similar to the King Snake of North America. Its venom is not as toxic as other venomous snakes, but King Cobras can inject more venom than the black mamba -up to 600 mg! This can result in one of the fastest mortality rates for any snake bite: typically 30-45 minutes after the envenomation. If untreated, the mortality rate is something like 60%. What happens if you are bitten? Symptoms may include severe pain, vertigo, paralysis and then coma. The snake is pretty widespread, ranging across Southern and South-east Asia, living in dense highland forests. So, be careful if you ever find yourself hiking through that area.

10 Unusual Archaeological Finds

From a 2,000 year old mummy with perfect skin, to a 20,000 year old pyramid, Here are 10 Unusual archaeological finds! Subscribe to Epic Wildlife http://goo.gl/6rzs5u Let's Connect -- http://www.epicadamwildlife.com/ -- http://www.facebook.com/epicadamwildlife -- http://www.twitter.com/epicwildlife -- http://gplus.to/epicwildlife 5.Hand in Hand .A unique find was made at Lake Baikal (bie-KAHL) in Siberia in 2016 … A grave dating to the Bronze Age contained the skeleton of a man and a woman holding hands -- for the past 5,000 years! The man’s skeleton was complete … but rodents destroyed the upper portion of the female. Archaeologists noted that the skeletons were adorned with rings made of rare white jade … one such ring was placed over the eye socket of the man. Three rings made of jade were placed on the man’s chest … and a jade dagger was also found in the grave. The man was thought to be a dignitary … while the woman is believed to have been his wife, or concubine. Experts think the couple belonged to the Bronze Age Glazkov Culture … they lived around Lake Baikal (bie-KAHL), which is known as the world’s oldest and deepest lake. The spot in which the couple was discovered was considered sacred by the ancient people. 4.The Swedish Atlantis? Has Atlantis finally been discovered? A recent find had us wondering. Researchers have discovered the submerged remains of a Stone Age lagoon community off the coast of Sweden … thought to be some 9,000 years old! It’s thought that the lagoon environment sank as sea levels rose over the centuries. An ancient pick axe carved from deer antlers, along with several fish traps made from braided hazel rods were among the items discovered. The relics were found some 20 meters below the surface of the Hano Bay in the Baltic Sea. To get a better idea of the area's history, geologists drilled into the seabed and radiocarbon dated the core. They also produced bathymetric maps to illustrate depth variations. Experts say that 9,000 years ago, the lagoon environment was likely surrounded by a pine forest … and Mesolithic (mezza-lithic) humans lived there for parts of the year. 3.Mummy Dearest Did you know the world’s best preserved mummy is in China? The body of Xin Zhui (shin-zoo) is around 2,100 years old. She was known as the Lady of Dai (die) and lived during the Han Dynasty. Her body still has soft skin, all her own hair and eyelashes … and her limbs can still bend! Scientists also noted that all her internal organs remained intact. Her preservation is even more impressive considering experts believe she was suffering from clogged arteries, high blood pressure, diabetes, and had heart disease … Researchers think she died from that condition at the approximate age of 50. Workers found her tomb inside a hillside as they were attempting to locate an air raid shelter. Her body was found swaddled in over 20 layers of silk … then sealed within four coffins filled with charcoal, which were then sealed with clay -- which made it so watertight that bacteria couldn't enter. 2.20,000 Year-Old Pyramid Could the world’s oldest pyramid be located in Indonesia? A geologist says that a location in West Java is revered because it contains an ancient pyramid … which could be 20,000 years old. The location is Gunung Padang (gun-ung PAH-dang)… a Megalithic site discovered in 1914. The site is said to be largest of its kind in Southeast Asia, and is located south of Jakarta. The hillside exhibits chunks of volcanic rubble that indigenous people consider sacred. The geologist, Dr Danny Hilman, says the hillside actually covers a pyramid that may have been built for astronomical purposes, or for worship. He claims that ground-penetrating radar has detected man-made structures around 15 meters underground. Rock found some 4 meters underground has been dated up to 12,500 years old. Although many experts are skeptical about Dr Hilman’s theory, research is ongoing. Could a pyramid really be there? 1.Another Stonehenge? Did you know a Neolithic complex was discovered about 1.5 miles from Stonehenge? And this newly discovered complex is thought to have been built more than 5,600 years ago. It’s located in a village called Larkhill in Wiltshire … And consists of around 3,000 feet of ditches with a diameter measuring 656 feet. It’s considered the first major early Neolithic site discovered in the Stonehenge area in over 100 years. Archaeologists have recovered items including human remains, arrowheads, broken pottery and cattle bones. So far, about 300 feet of the ditches have been excavated. Findings thus far indicate the complex was a sacred area for rituals, in addition to being a burial ground. Researchers hope these new findings will help shed light on why -- and how -- Stonehenge was built.

More than 1 billion people have high blood pressure

12:40
Story highlightsA global study found that 1.13 billion people had high blood pressure in 2015The greatest burden is in low- and middle-income countries (CNN)In 2015, there were 1.13 billion people living with high blood pressure worldwide, with the majority of them in low and middle-income countries. The findings come from a new study published Tuesday in The Lancet, which found that the number of people affected by high blood pressure has almost doubled over the past 40 years. In most countries, men were found to have higher blood pressure than women. The study highlighted a stark contrast between where people are most affected, with high-income countries showing a sharp decline in blood pressure among their populations in recent decades, while low- and middle-income countries have seen numbers spike -- particularly in South Asia and Africa."When you look at this globally, blood pressure is a condition of poverty, not affluence," said Majit Ezzati, professor of global environmental health at Imperial College London, who led the analysis. "The relationship with national income is completely inverse."Read MoreHow to get blood pressure down to 120The difference was made more evident by that fact that half of the world's adults with high blood pressure in 2015 were living in Asia. The United States, Canada and South Korea had the lowest rates in the world, while the UK had the lowest proportion of people with raised blood pressure in Europe."In the high-income world ... (rates) are coming down despite the aging and increasing population," Ezzati said. "But in the population (in Asia), as the age goes up, the blood pressure tends to be higher." He adds that this is most likely down to differences between these populations in terms of healthy food options but also access to health services providing diagnosis and treatment. The global highs and lowsAn estimated 226 million people in China were found to have high blood pressure, along with 200 million in India. The top five countries for high blood pressure among men were all in Central and Eastern Europe: Croatia, Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary and Slovenia. For women, the top five were all in Africa: Niger, Chad, Mali, Burkina Faso and Somalia. To reveal these findings, Ezzati collaborated with the World Health Organization as well as hundreds of scientists around the world to study changes in blood pressure in every country between 1975 and 2015. "We wanted to know what was happening," said Ezzati, who believes that blood pressure is a more extensive problem than obesity and diabetes and warns of the range of health conditions that stem from someone's blood pressure being raised, such as stroke, heart disease and kidney disease. Blood pressure is estimated to cause 7.5 million deaths globally, almost 13% of all deaths, according to the WHO."As the leading risk factor for cardiovascular disease, reducing blood pressure is also a key step to meeting the overarching target of reducing non-communicable disease

Morbid obesity has become a very real problem the world over. In the space of three years in the UK, two thousand people were rescued by firefighters and paramedics, using crowbars and hydraulic equipment, after getting stuck in their homes. In the US, an obese man was found unconscious with his skin fused to the chair he’d been sitting in for two years. In New Zealand, a South African man had his work visa rejected after being told his 130kg weight placed him at risk of diabetes, hypertension and heart disease. Producer Sebe Buthelezi found some unique cases here at home.

Where the Giraffe Roam-Giraffe Capture

05:13
After the successful policy change in South African wildlife conservation, issues arose from genetic isolation due to small-privatized reserves. Wildlife managers strive each day to keep herds healthy and bloodlines pure, which comes at a cost when managing for large ungulates such as the giraffe. In this addition of POV Biology, “Where the Giraffe Roams” takes viewers on a point-of-view ride at what it takes to successfully translocate giraffe between reserves. From the moment the tranquilizer dart is successfully deployed, managers have minutes to inject antidote to counter the effects of the drug. Giraffe are know for having one of the most complex blood pressure system in the animal kingdom, and each second that giraffe are anesthetized means they are at higher risk of cardiac failure. Teams are assembled and ready to lead the blindfolded giraffe to relocation upon reversal of the drug. When you’re moving such a large animal, however, things can quickly become dangerous for both parties. The use of helicopter, for deployment of the tranquilizer, and ground crews for extraction are risks that we experience in our day-to-day tasks of preserving the future of our wildlife. Tune in to see where advancements in technology have taken us from the stone ages of Hitari, and welcome to our point of view. -POV Biology *Music: Here I Come- Big Bill and the Extra Crispies* bigbillsband.bandcamp.com Sequence of Events 0:10- Pilot and Wildlife Veterinarian takeoff 0:23- Ground crew gets into position 0:29- Giraffe is darted and running 0:44- Giraffe has been located and harness equipment offloaded 0:55- In order to immobilize giraffe, trip line is deployed 1:02- Giraffe tangles up in trees and falls 1:08- Mask and earplugs are secured to calm giraffe after antidote is injected 1:18- Lead and break ropes are attached to halter 1:26- Antidote is injected and giraffe begins to wake from m99 tranquilizer 1:30- Giraffe has sat upright and becomes cognoscente 1:34- Giraffe is standing and begins to walk 1:45- Break crew is in place to avoid leader being trampled 2:04- Giraffe has stopped and fights the lead of ground crew 2:08- Team has lead giraffe to trailer in last final push 2:41- Team member begins to unharness break ropes 2:55- Giraffe is transported to larger trailer 3:03- Transferring giraffe to trailer begins 3:21- Giraffe is transferred 3:52- Halter, blindfold, and earplugs are removed 4:19- Giraffe is secured and ready to transport to neighboring reserve 4:26- All smiles from the Wildlife Vet after a successful translocation

Erectile Dysfunction Drugs South Africa What Is The Best Erectile Dysfunction Drugs In South Afric

01:36
http://www.vigor7.com How Erections Work When you are not sexually aroused, your penis is soft and limp. During sexual arousal, nerve messages release chemicals that increase blood flow into the penis. The blood flows into 2 erection chambers made of spongy tissue (the corpus cavernosum) in the penis. The "smooth muscle" in the erection chambers relaxes, which lets blood enter and stay in the chambers. The pressure of the blood in the chambers makes the penis firm, giving you an erection. After you have an orgasm, the blood flows out of the chambers and the erection goes away.

03:07
KoumanKe'le' African Dance & Drum Ensemble is hosting its 5th Annual Kipekee African Diaspora Dance and Drum Festival. Kipekee (key-pay-kay) is a Swahili word that means "unique". Started in October 2009, this particular cultural festival has the unique flare of not just concentrating on one or two countries of the continent, but offering a glimpse at dance, music and art forms with origins in the diaspora as a whole. The 2014 theme is "Let's Come Together" and will feature family friendly activities, educational forums, cultural social events and a vendor marketplace. Activities will include adult drum and dance workshops from Mali, Guinea, Congo, Senegal, and Brazil, children's drum and dance workshops from Guinea West Africa, Capoeira class with live instrumentation from Kalunga N'Golo, modern dance class, Culture/History lecture with former members of the National Ballets of various countries of the continent, Music instrumentation workshops will include Djembe, Dundun Dance and Traditional African songs. Additional events will include a meet the instructors reception/ dununba party, hypertension and heart health information sessions(with blood pressure screening) and free children's dance fitness and drum classes. Throughout the year KoumanKe'le' ADDE presents cultural movement/fitness based events that bring awareness to selected health issues, in an effort to provide preventive education and fitness solutions. This year our focus is hypertension and heart health. We believe that this "Let's Come Together" educational and cultural festival will attract and maintain an outreach for cultural exchanges in South Texas.

Bluetooth health care devices - Karmavision

01:33
http://karmavision.tv/video/382/bluetooth_health_care_devices.html Bluetooth has finally found its way to medical devices as well (especially POC, Point-Of-Care). There are still lot of measurement devices out that just gives the measurement result to the device screen, no connections to outside world whatsoever. Minority of connectable devices uses Bluetooth, infrared or other wireless communication channel. However it seems that Bluetooth has got manufacturers' interest since new medical measurement devices with Bluetooth are coming. Even Bluetooth SIG has special medical devices working group. An elderly woman collecting data from a blood pressure device and an oxygen meter that are connected with ultra low power Bluetooth technology to a mobile phone. The data is collected and sent to the lady's health care center that immediately replies and sends back a status feedback.

Filmed by Stefan Zimmerman on the DJI Phantom 4 Pro Drone - edited by David Huting. ABOUT THE MUSIC: "This production is a continuous mix of three ambient works, each work featuring a different Hatfield sister :) The first song features Erin Hatfield on vocals, and later on a beautiful sounding hang drum provides some rhythmic backing, then featuring a vocal solo by Erin Hatfield around the 10:00 mark. The second song is a remix from my game, Pixelsphere. The third song features Ashley Hatfield. Ashley's vocals are washed in reverb and linger as chord swells in the background which are combined with a boy's choir sound. My wife Julie Hatfield's lovely vocals are featured in all three songs. Big thanks to the vocalists Erin, Ashley and Julie for helping me with this composition!" ~Alex Smith. MUSIC NOTES: This ambient score features a very unique instrument: the hang drum. From Alex: "They are pretty cool and organic sounding kind of like a steel drum that you hold in your hand, with the exception that the instrument itself is a specific type of resonator so it the way it rings after it's struck with your palm." Controversial Issues Facing the Clinician in Stroke Care

36:07
New advances and trials are underway for treatment of acute stroke in relation to thrombolysis, devices to improve blood flow, and blood pressure lowering strategies. There are controversies surrounding these treatments, including why these newer techniques may or may not fail to improve acute stroke care. Using a case-based format, his lecture will provide the evidence for these controversies and offer best practices for stroke treatment for acute ischemic stroke (AIS) and recurrent stroke prevention.
