You Will Know- (black history program song)

Lyrics When I was a young boy, I had visions of fame They were wild and they were free, They were blessed with my name And then I grew older, And I saw what's to see That the world is full of pain, And my dreams they left me And then I got stronger, Inside of the pain That's when I picked up the pieces, And I regained my name And I fought hard y'all, To call by my place And right now you could ask me, And it all seems in vain [Your dreams ain't easy] Your dreams ain't easy [You just stick by your plan] You just stick by your plan [Go from boys to men] Go from boys to men [You must act like a man] You gotta act like a man [When it gets hard, y'all] When it gets hard, y'all [You just grab what you know] Grab what you know [Stand up tall and don't you fall] And my background sing You will know [You will know], yeah...eah... [You will know] [You will know] You will know, you will know [You will know] And I know you're cryin', 'Cause it's all in his vein And the things you want you can't have, It just all went away But life ain't over, Hoo...hoo... Just grab the winds and make demands, And the vibe will take you far [Your dreams ain't easy] Your dreams ain't easy [You just stick by your plan] Stick by your plan, boy [Go from boys to men] Go from boys to men [You must act like a man] I know it ain't easy [When it gets hard, y'all] it gets hard sometime [You just grab what you know] Yes, it does [Stand up tall and don't you fall] Stand up tall, don't you fall, and you will know, yeah [You will know] [You will know] Ah...ah...ah... (You will know) [You will know] Hey, there's no doubt about it [You will know] Hey, you will know [You will know] You will know [You will know] Hey...ey...hey... [You will know] You will know, yeah [Oh, you will know] Hey... [Your dreams ain't easy] Your dreams ain't easy [You just stick by your plan] Stick by your plans [Go from boys to men] Boys to men [You must act like a man] You must act like a man [When it gets hard, y'all] It ain't hard, yeah [You just grab what you know] Grab what you know [Stand up tall and don't you fall] Oh...oh...oh... [Your dreams ain't easy] [You just stick by your plan] Hey...hey...yeah [Go from boys to men] Boys to men [You must act like a man] I know it ain't easy [When it gets hard, y'all] [You just grab what you know] Yeah... [Stand up tall and don't you fall] Come on D and sing this song [You will know] Yeah... [You will know] You will know [You will know] [You will know] Hey... [You will know][You will know][You will know][Oh, you will know]

Black History is Everybody’s History

Song recorded as a contribution to school Black History program Lyrics: I’ll start it Imparting Is my part and I’m shooting into the heart I’m Bon Jovi and up the charts And I’m eager to be apart of this Genesis We’re all one And I’m here to present it like it’s evidence Every Year there are 28 days But every 4 years there are 29 ways To leap into this month with full intent to make it more than words to make it bout that action so we’re seriously adding verbs Get it? Seriously is an adverb A word that modifies a noun verb or adverb How in the world did a prosperous people be selected to receive such resident evil? Treated like less the humans in all eyes Like settling with the three fifth compromise RIP Imhotep, Hannibal, and Queen of Sheeba, She was a Diva Elizabeth Taylor was Cleopatra that’s historically wrong so fact check the News that spreads blues With no clues Of hues That were abused And misused Set up to just lose Couldn’t choose Whips, chains, stolen culture How rude AND miseducated For the work of Carter Woodson we’ll forever be elated CHORUS I’ll never ever spit bars that glorify guns But Harriet Tubman was definitely toting one In the year of our Lord 1-8-6-3 Slaves were freed by president number 16 Keep thinking The answer is Abe Lincoln you’re thirsty keep drinking Get out but keep blinking uh! through black codes Survived through Jim Crow The prison lease system From the Georgia Dirt Roads So lift every voice and now sing With harmony of literacy mathematically scholastically Prioritize academics over things athletically definitely emphatically Consistently With excellency And educations not a back up plan It’s the only thing to keep bad from happening again CHORUS Let’s shatter the plight To Ignite Every fight That ain’t right As we reach For the height As we teach of the light That unites We are children Of light As we work In the day And we prep For the night It gets dark But be strong And with might You just might Clear the sight Of the lost At all cost And things will get better When we all come together Every life does matter CHORUS

10 Must See Films for Black History Month

02:48
See what movies the director, producer and editor Sam Pollard (4 Little Girls, The Talk-Race in America, 25th Hour) says you should see for Black History Month and ALL months! Please SUBSCRIBE if you enjoyed: http://bit.ly/1JQmx88 **More info & videos below** For Black History Month films and series on THIRTEEN, check out http://thirteen.org/blackhistory. Here are Sam Pollard's film recommendations. 1) Intruder in the Dust (Clarence Brown). It is one of the first Hollywood films to depict a black character as a strong male figure. 2) No Way Out (Joseph L. Mankiewicz) features Sidney Poitier in his first film. You get a sense of Poitier's presence, personality and humanity. 3) Odds Against Tomorrow (Robert Wise). Starring Harry Belafonte in one of his most important roles. 4) Nothing But a Man (Michael Roemer). A black couple builds a complex relationship in the 1960s, dealing with racial hostility. 5) The Learning Tree (by Gordon Parks). Pollard was 19 when he saw this nuanced film about a black male growing up in Kansas. 6) Sweet Sweetback's Badasssss Song (by Melvin Van Peeples). Peeples' opus to black malehood and one of the most unusual films Pollard has seen. 7) Ganja and Hess (Bill Gunn). Pollard worked on this film as a young apprentice editor. It was a vampire movie about love, lust and blood, made with a European sensibility. 8) Do the Right Thing (Spike Lee). Among Pollard's favorite scenes are that between Spike Lee and John Turturro's characters, about who is or isn't a racist; also, Bill Nunn's scene about Good and Evil on his tattooed hands, a scene Lee cribbed from Night of the Hunter. 9) Rosewood (John Singleton). An in your face, brutal film. What happens when white anger over black middle class life erupts. Based on an historic incident in 1923 in Florida. 10) Daughters of the Dust (Julie Dash). A lyrical, beautifully paced and visually sumptuous film. It tells a story that has rarely been told on the screen.
