Homemade Fungicide Spray ~ Noreen's Garden

06:43
This video is migrated from the Noreen's Garden channel, if you have already watched this video, please feel free to enjoy it once again and if you are new here, please come back and enjoy regular gardening videos on our channel every Tuesday! This time of year when the rains come and it may get more humid in your area, the powdery mildew will set in on cucumbers, squash, pumpkins and anything with a broad and kind of hairy leaf. This spray won't repair damage that has already been done, but it will stop the mildew in it's tracks and stop continued damage to other, newer parts of the plant. The recipe is simple: 1 quart of water 1 1/2 tablespoons baking soda 1 tablespoon vegetable oil 2 tablespoons liquid dish soap. Mix it all up in a big jar and pour into a spray bottle. This should be sprayed during a time of the day that is not to hot and not ever in the direct sunlight of mid day. If you are able to, spray this on a slightly overcast day so you will avoid any burning to your plants. Spray once a week to avoid another set in of the powdery mildew. This is a great way to deal with a garden problem in a simple and organic way instead of resorting to harsh chemical sprays that can be expensive and in the end even more damaging to the soil and ground water in the end. I hope that this is helpful for you and I hope you learned something! I hope you give this homemade fungicide spray a try and I hope you love it! Happy Planting! BORAX in Gardening: As a Fertilizer and Ant Control - Borax Ant Bait Recipe

05:26
Today we will look into Borax powder and its uses in gardening. Also will discuss on Boric Acid powder or Boric powder we use for playing carrom board game and also as wound antiseptic and how is it different from borax. Also at the end will show you how to make an Ant Trap and get rid of ants using borax. That’s coming up.. Welcome back! If you are a hobby gardener or interested in growing plants, Consider subscribing to this channel. Also TURN ON the notification bell icon so that you won’t miss anything. Borax is a white powder made up of the element BORON, a naturally occurring mineral salt with acidic properties. It has been used for many years as a natural cleaner, laundry booster and disinfectant which you can buy easily from any grocery store. Borax is the common name for the chemical compound sodium tetraborate decahydrate, which contains sodium, boron, water and oxygen. Because this compound is produced as a natural residue from the repeated evaporation of seasonal lakes, it is suitable for the organic garden but with utmost care and precautions because its misuse can harm your plants. First, let’s talk about the difference between borax and boric acid or boric powder we use as carom board powder. In the most basic terms, borax is a mineral that is mined from the ground, and it turns into boric acid with further processing (usually exposure to an acid such as hydrochloric or sulfuric acid). And infact both have the same value in gardening. Well, Now lets look into the best uses of Borax powder in gardening. 1. To Kill Weeds Add 1 tablespoon of borax powder to 1 liter of water and mix thoroughly and use a sprayer to coat the the unwanted weeds in your garden. Take precaution not to spray on any of your favourite plant. 2. As a Fertilizer The element Boron is the second most widespread micronutrient deficiency problem worldwide after zinc. It improves plant’s health and growth. Its deficiency commonly results in empty pollen grains, poor pollen vitality and a reduced number of flowers per plant. The lack of boron also causes stunted root growth. This is similar to zinc deficiency and also in humans the zinc deficiency is related to infertility issues like low sperm count and motility. The common symptoms to diagnose this problem of boron deficiency are dying growing tips, stunted growth, low productivity but these symptoms are very common. So the way to determine Boron deficiency is to get your soil tested. Soil that is acidic, sandy and low in organic matter often has a deficiency of Boron. You can Dissolve at the rate of 1 teaspoon of borax in 1 liter of water and apply the solution evenly with a water sprinkling can. 3. Remove Rust from Tools Mix borax and lemon juice together to make a paste. Apply this paste to your rusty tools and allow it to set for at least 30 minutes, and then scrub off. Repeat again if necessary, and always rinse clean with water when finished. Another hack here is after use, always insert your garden tools into a pail of sand to prevent rusting. 4. Disinfect and Clean your Garden Tools and Surface Mix a tablespoon of borax in a liter of warm water. Make use of this solution to soak and scrub pots and tools. 5. Ant Killer If you want to get rid of ants in your garden, try this borax bait hack or borax ant bait recipe. For this, you’ll need - watch video. Mix everything well and place this in a bottle with holes in the lid or any container or cup like this with some small holes for the ants to enter into the trap, but not larger enough for honey bees to enter inside or you can also pour directly on the the affected spot. But I have no luck yet. Let s wait for few more days and will update you if ants trapped with a video at my Instagram page. That was our episode on something new in gardening – that’s benefits of borax in garden. HYDROGEN PEROXIDE in Garden | Top 5 Uses of Hydrogen-peroxide in Gardening H2O2

03:36
H2o2 - Hydrogen peroxide for plants is an easily available household disinfectant and bleaching agent and is one of the useful garden chemicals. The Top 5 uses of Diluted hydrogen peroxide in garden, mainly because of its antimicrobial and oxygen releasing properties in gardening. Hydrogen peroxide is a colorless liquid with chemical formula H2O2 similar to water, with just an extra oxygen atom, but it is a combustible and corrosive substance, especially at higher concentrations. Although it is inorganic, that is a chemical, but it easily decomposes to water and oxygen, and hence safe to be used even in organic gardening - that is hydrogen peroxide hacks: 1. Disinfecting Garden pots and tools specially the cutter or pruner in cloning process: For this you can use 6% h2o2 solution to wipe off the cutting tool with a cotton soaked in hydrogen peroxide or dip the tool into the solution. This increases the chances of a high success rate in growing plants from cuttings, because you are not introducing pathogens into the plants from cutting tools. 2. Disinfect Germination Trays and Potting Mix: for a high success rate in germination. Add 3% h2o2 solution to the seed starting or potting soil and leave it over night before using the soil for seed sowing. The germination trays can also be wiped with 6% solution. 3. Accelerate Germination Time and Root Development: Seeds soaked in diluted hydrogen peroxide germinate faster and display healthy growth. This is because of the oxygen released when hydrogen peroxide breaks down. Since oxygen requirement of sprouting seeds is very high, this extra oxygen supply is obviously beneficial. So best is to mix 1 to 3 % solution in soil or simply water the seeds with the solution. This also helps in root development. 4. Control Bacterial and Fungal Root or Stem Rots: Spray a diluted solution of 1 to 3 % depending on the severity of the disease. Do not use high concentrations, as this may burn the plant. 5. Weed Killer: At 10% concentration and above it completely destroys all types of vegetation it comes in contact with. so, use it with caution around your plants. One Warning: If it accidentally splashes on your hands or gets into your eyes, flush immediately with lots of cold water. So, there we have it folks. That was our episode on the top 5 h2o2 benefits of hydrogen peroxide in garden. If you like the video, please give a thumbs up and also use share button to share with your friends. 3 Homemade Natural Weed Killer Recipes Tested

04:27
http://www.growyourheirlooms.com/ I am testing the three most popular all natural weed killers from the internet. Many people swear by these. I will say that the methods did kill the grass to a certain extent. Although it's a good thing to want to use natural methods to kill weeds, we have to remember that if we kill weeds, we are also killing natural microbes and fungi in the soil and that will inhibit growth of vegetables and flowers. Now if you're doing this on a sidealk or somewhere you never plan on growing anything then this could work. But my suggestion is to use cardboard. It will not only smother the weeds, but as it breaks down, it will add nutrients to the soil. Please Share & Subscribe http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=growyourheirlooms

5 Reasons Oregano Should Grow In Every Garden

03:29
Oregano is one of the most popular perennial herbs to grow in any herb-garden. Most are familiar with using it to flavor foods like pizza and pasta sauce – in fact, U.S. soldiers returning home after the Second World-War brought back a fondness for what they called the “pizza-herb” with them. As such a popular herb with an incredible variety of uses, it’s really a must to grow in your garden – if you haven’t planted it yet, consider these reasons for getting inspired to do so. 1.Oregano is a great pest repellent The strong scent of oregano confuses pests who are sniffing out your crops, which is why it’s such a good-idea to plant it near your vegetable garden and under any fruit-trees. You can also use oregano oil as a natural bug-spray for your household plants. Just add a few drops to a spray bottle with water, and spray your plants with a light misting. It’s very good for keeping aphids away. 2.Strengths your immune-system Oregano is loaded with antioxidants, in fact, according to renowned physician Dr. Mercola, it has one of the highest antioxidant activity ratings out there, packing 42-times the antioxidant punch as apples. One of the active agents in oregano is rosmarinic acid, a potent antioxidant that may help strengthen your immune-system so that you can better fight off illnesses like a cold, flu and a host of diseases. 3.Oregano offers the ‘forgotten vitamin,’ Vitamin-K Oregano is a rich natural source of Vitamin-K, an important vitamin that is often overlooked. Sometimes called the “forgotten vitamin,” it’s best known for its key role in blood-clotting, but it’s also essential for preventing heart disease, building strong-bones and an important part of many other processes in the body. 4.Oregano provides antibacterial and antifungal properties The reason oregano-oil is sold in so many health food and specialty shops is that it offers powerful antibacterial and antifungal properties. That’s because it contains thymol and carvacrol, two oils known for their remarkable ability to fight bacteria and possibly even kill the foodborne pathogen Listeria as well as the superbug MRSA, according to research 5.Oregano is anti-inflammatory Following an anti-inflammatory diet can be a great way to achieve optimal health and fight the pain of a number of different inflammatory-related conditions such as arthritis and inflammatory bowel-disease. And, oregano contains a substance called beta-caryophyllin, which is known to inhibit inflammation. It’s also thought to be beneficial for health conditions like metabolic syndrome, osteoporosis, and arteriosclerosis. 6.Relieves cold and flu symptoms Using oregano when you have a cold, the flu or a respiratory infection, can help bring relief – it’s been scientifically shown to be effective, and traditional healers since ancient times have used oregano extracts to treat respiratory-problems like coughs, colds, flu, sore-throats and even bronchitis. Simply mix in several drops of oregano-oil into a carrier oil like almond or olive-oil, and rub it onto your chest. You can also boil-it in water, or add it to a vaporizer, and inhale the steam. ASPIRIN HACKS ON PLANTS and GARDENING: Top 6 Benefits of Aspirin as Rooting Hormone + Others

04:48
The Benefits of ASpirin in Garden and Top 6 proven uses of aspirin in gardening for plants. The Medicine Aspirin, once used to be the most commonly used Non-steroidal Anti-inflammatory and Analgesic – now surprisingly has found to benefit your garden. The Top 5 useful effects of Aspirin in gardening. Aspirin is chemically Acetyl Salicylic Acids and salicylic acid is naturally found in willow bark and many other trees. So, what is the actual concept behind using Aspirin in gardening or farming. Studies have found that the plant hormone salicylic acid is released in tiny amounts when plants are in stress. So this concept has been utilized and many benefits of Aspirin have been proven, which am gonna listout one by one. 1. Aspirin as a Rooting Chemical: Rooting hormones like indole acetic and butyric acid are already discussed in my video on What are rooting hormones – you can checkout that video. Well to improve the success rate of rooting while propagating from cuttings, Simply take a teaspoon of cinnamon powder from your kitchen and add it to 1 litre of lukewarm water and then drop in half a 350mg dispersible aspirin tablet and stir it well. Then dip the cuttings into this solutions for about 30 to 60 minutes and then plant those cuttings. 2. Aspiring Improves Seed Germination: A low dose of aspirin water significantly improves seed germination and in one study the plants treated with the aspirin water had a 100 percent germination rate, while the plants that weren't treated had more inconsistent results. For this drop half a tablet of a 350 mg Aspirin into 1 liter of water and stir well and spray on the sown seeds or soak the seeds in it for few hours before planting them. 3. Aspirin for Plant growth: The University of Rhode Island sprayed plants with an aspirin water solution once every three weeks for the course of an entire growing season. At the end, the plants sprayed with the aspirin solution were found much bigger and had more fruit or flowers than their counterparts. 4. To keep Cut flowers stay fresh: Put a half a tablet of aspirin in a vase with fresh cut flowers from your garden to help them stay fresh longer. 5. Aspiring for Healthy Tomatoes: Spray your tomato saplings or even soak the tomato seeds with the same mixture of water and aspirin, before planting them in the ground for healthier, more disease resistant plants. 6. Aspirin spray also an anti fungal and treats Blight in plants: Blight refers to a specific symptom affecting some plants like tomatoes due to infections by pathogenic microrganisms, leading to rapid and complete chlorosis, browning, then death of plant tissues such as leaves, branches, flowers and fruits. Now Possible Side Effects of Using Aspiring in Garden: - Plants may develop brown spots and appear to have burnt foliage. The best way to protect against this is to spray early in the morning just before sunrise and not under direct hot sun. - Also keep Watching plants for their response to the treatment. Not all plants may be suitable for the aspirin regimen, but it has been shown that eggplants, peppers, tomatoes, and potatoes benefit the most.. Technically, Using aspirin is not an organic solution, however, it is a safe and very inexpensive option that contains far fewer chemicals than the store-bought chemical products. Always TEST SPRAY and wait 48 hours before using a new spray on your plants. Neem oil is effective at managing fungus gnats and many fungi. Nothing is 100% effective but I really like neem oil and it has worked for me. Check out my vegetable gardening blog: The Rusted Garden. You'll Be Amazed With What Cinnamon Can Do To Your Garden

03:22
Cinnamon is a fantastic aromatic, which makes it great for baking and cooking, but this versatile spice isn't just for the kitchen! With origins dating back to as early as 2700 B.C., cinnamon is a popular spice all over the world for uses in cooking and medicine. Once a very valuable trade commodity, you can find ground cinnamon and cinnamon sticks at most grocery stores at a fair price. You might want to stockpile the spice when you see everything it can do in your garden. 1.Cinnamon as rooting agent Cinnamon as a rooting agent is as useful as willow water or hormone rooting powder. A single application to the stem when you plant the cutting will stimulate root growth in almost every plant variety. Give your cuttings for example rose cuttings a quick start with the help of cinnamon powder. Pour a spoonful onto a paper towel and roll damp stem ends in the powder before Planting the stems in fresh potting soil. The cinnamon will encourage the stem to produce roots and more stems, while helping to prevent the fungus that causes damping-off disease. 2.Protect seedlings from disease The antifungal properties in cinnamon make it a great tool for protecting seedlings from rot and disease, also known as damping off. Keeping moisture at bay is key; dusting the seeds with cinnamon and using a doming tactic can protect the seeds until they grow. 3.Defeat fungus When you sprinkle ground cinnamon on soil, it kills fungi. Take advantage of cinnamon fungicide control by making a cinnamon spray for plants. Stir some cinnamon powder into warm water and allow it to steep overnight. Strain the liquid through a coffee filter and put the results into a spray bottle. Spray the stems and leave of affected plants. You can use cinnamon to kill wild mushrooms too. 4.Heal sick plants Try sprinkling cinnamon on a plant wound from cutting or other damage to speed up the healing process and protect it from further damage or disease. 5.Deter ants If you have a problem with ants in your home or greenhouse, cinnamon is a good deterrent. Ants don’t like to walk where cinnamon powder lays, so ant problems will be decreased. Use cinnamon for pests inside and outside your house. Find their entryway and sprinkle cinnamon powder in the path. Cinnamon won’t kill the ants in your home, but it will help to keep them from coming inside. If you have a problem with ants in your child’s sandbox, mix a container of cinnamon powder with the sand, mixing it well. Ants will steer clear of the sand. 6.Keep mosquitoes away from the garden Sprinkle a bit of cinnamon around your plants to keep mosquitoes and other bugs away. They don't like the strong smell of cinnamon, so you can enjoy your garden even at night in peace. Have you tried using cinnamon in the garden? Be sure to share it in the comments below Image Sources www.wikihow.com canstockphoto.com www.pixabay.com Pinterest gardeningtip.diyeverywhere.com

Cocktail Fertilizer Powder DIY: All in one Booster for Plant Growth

03:42
If you are a Pure Organic fertilizer lover, then you can prepare “organic only” fertilizer for your plants and offer extra dose to your plants. But if you want to prepare a balanced universal mix – that is inorganic + organic mixture, you need to offer this in lesser quantity to your plants – like half to one tablespoon depending on the size of your pot and after tilling or raking the top soil and apply around the plant – not directly on roots. You can apply every 15 days to 1 month – by carefully evaluating your results and then adjust the dosage accordingly. So the Take home message is this – “This Mix is Powerful mix of organic and inorganic fertilizer balancing the advantages and disadvantages of chemical fertilzers and secondly it saves your time and energy and you offer everything at once to your plants.” Free SUBSCRIBE TO Our Channel at: http://www.youtube.com/c/gardentips?sub_confirmation=1 CLICK NOTIFICATION BELL TO "ON" TO RECEIVE UPDATES!
