Whey protein is actually a tremendous tool for those of you looking to lose weight. That’s why today, I am going to show you exactly how to use whey protein for weight loss. Here are the 7 best tips and steps for beginners. 1. Understand what whey protein actually is. Whey is the liquid part of milk that gets separated when cheese is made. If you’ve ever opened a yogurt container and have seen a watery substance at the top, this is whey protein. This liquid substance is what is turned into powder form to create whey protein. Just in case you’re wondering, this process also cuts out the 95% of the lactose so if you’re allergic to dairy, you really have nothing to fear. 2. Understand the different types of whey protein powder. There are three main forms of protein powder: whey concentrate, isolate, and hydrolestate. Concentrate is about 70-80% protein with some milk sugar and fat. Isolate is 90% protein and has a little less sugar and fat. Hydrolysate is also known as hydrolyzed whey, has virtually 0 sugar and fat, and is mixed with enzymes for the faster digestion into the blood stream. So, you may be wondering, does the type of protein matter? Not really. The minute differences between to two are not enough that it should cause you any stress or concern. Leave that sort of worrying for your overall diet and exercise routine. For what it’s worth, most of the studies are done using whey isolate and it’s what I use as well. 3. Understand why protein works so well for weight loss There are 3 reasons are particularly compelling… #1. It will keep you full. Protein can cut down sugar cravings by as much as 60%. #2. It’s easy. As long as you have a blender bottle on hand, all you need to do is add water. Which is great to have on the go or at work where eating healthy is more difficult. #3. It preserves lean muscle tissue when dropping weight. This ensures that when you do lose weight the majority of it is fat. We talk a lot about protein on this channel and this is just the short list of reasons why. 4. Whey protein has lots of other proven health benefits, which helps the body function better and makes weight loss easier. Things like: Improves muscle performance Lowers blood pressure Reduces symptoms of stress Helps you get in more water naturally And contains a small amount of antioxidants. Are additional reasons why whey protein is important and helpful for weight loss. 5. What are the best times to take whey protein? In order of importance. Take 30 minutes before or after your workouts. This has been shown to help with muscle development and recovery after a workout. Take 30 minutes before meals or dinning out. This will help you keep you from binge eating and give you more control over what you eat when out with friends or family members. Finally, you can use it as a healthy snack. Whenever my chocolate cravings hit mid day, I use it to get in my chocolate fix without all the sugar. 6. What should you mix it with? Water or unsweetened nut milks like cashew, almond, and coconut work best. Try to avoid using milk as it has a good amount of sugar. Other great places to use protein is in oatmeal, Greek yogurt, and smoothies for a flavor boost. This really adds a great taste to the otherwise bland healthy foods. 7. How much should you get in? I used to be very fit (I played handball, did gymnastics and also Crossfit) but when I started my own business I had to put my work first for a year. This meant I gained 13kg (almost 29lbs). After I realised how much I had let myself go and how self-conscious and unhappy I was, I decided to make a change. Running wasn’t my favourite sport, but I did it anyway and I got used to running the sprint workouts and longer distances. I followed the instructions my Running Coach gave me in the app and trained 3 - 4 times a week, alone and in a small group. In all weathers. The hard work was worth it. In 3 months I lost 9kg (almost 20lbs) and got my old confidence back. I even fell in love with running! I still train with the app - I would miss it if I stopped. And now I want to add bodyweight and gym training - not because I have to, but because I like the challenge :) I can safely say that it works. The hard work is worth it. Reverse Dieting | Metabolic Damage | How to Lose Weight and Keep It Off | Recovery Diet

There are many people that say that reverse dieting is completely useless and others that take it to the extreme and have people reverse dieting for as long or longer than they were actually dieting for. I think both of these approaches are wrong. And the answer lies somewhere in the middle of the two. Just like we wouldn't want to cut calories drastically, we don't want to increase them drastically either. So we do need some sort of reverse diet after prolonged calorie restriction. On the flip side of the coin the metabolism is very adaptive and does not take anymore than a couple week maybe a month and half at the most to adapt to maintenance levels. So really long reverse diets except maybe in very rare cases are completely unnecessary. I want to start this video by talking about the problems associated with cutting calories too low for extended periods of time Thermic effect of food will go down, which means you won't be burning as many calories from digestion because obviously your not going to be digesting as much food. You will also experience a loss of muscle mass. These two alone account for the biggest loses to your metabolic rate. That's interesting to note because just by eating more good food and building more muscle we can have drastic effects on increasing our metabolism. Another adaption that occurs on restrictive diets is an Increased efficiency of your energy production system which means that you're body becomes better at converting food and body fat into energy. After dieting for an extended period of time your body will be very good at using and preserving every bit of the food you eat. Which is great for survival, but not so great for fat loss. Reduction in your thyroid hormone and leptin levels. These regulate your metabolism, and when leptin is low your appetite increases. Many times after dieting for a long time your hunger signals are out of control. And you'll be able to eat and eat and eat largely due to very low leptin levels. Other things that staying in an extremely restrictive calorie state can lead to include: Eating disorders induced by dieting In diets that are too restrictive women can lose their menstrual cycle Both men and women will experience lower libido Reduction in fat oxidation emotional distress and depression All of these adaptations set the dieter up for a phenomenon known as post-starvation obesity, or body fat overshooting. Or to put it simply you go right back to being fat because at the end of the diet the individual is left with a repressed metabolic rate, and an overwhelming desire to eat. To say that metabolic damage, metabolic slowdown, metabolic adaption, whatever the hell you want to call it to say that it doesn't exist is either perpetuated by ignorance or inexperience. Your metabolism will slow down on restricted diets this has been proven, and I've seen it in many clients. However, to treat it like an irreversible condition or a condition that at minimum will take several months to fix is a a little extreme. There is nothing permanent about your metabolism slowing down. As long as your behaviors change your metabolism will change too. In studies like the Minnesota Starvation studies and Even in anorexic studies when people recover their original body composition their metabolism recover as well. Everyone of them has reduced their body fat % to a low that is not normal nor healthy, and if you want to stay at 5% body fat forever you may have a body image disorder. Every natural bodybuilder at the time of their show has slowed their metabolisms down from where they were when they first started dieting. The really cool thing is that anyone can shoot their metabolism right back up by increasing their calories to their new maintenance levels while simultaneously building back muscle, and extremely lean people have to normalize their body fat % as well. Bodybuilders for example many times go below the normal healthy body fat %, so after a show almost every bodybuilder should increase their body fat percentage as the lean body mass percentage increases at the same time.

Gastric Sleeve Journey| Body Image Issues after surgery
**OPEN ME** I have struggled with me weight my entire life. I have tried every diet in the book along with living a lifestyle change of eating healthy and working out. I was able to loose 35 pounds on my own and then hit a stall that would not budge. I decided to have weight loss surgery in November of 2014. I am documenting this journey from the pre op classes to everyday life. follow me if you want to see my mind, body, and spirit transform to a new healthy me. I had the Gastric Sleeve Surgery in March of 2015. In less than a year i was able to loose over 115 pounds and drop from a size 24 to a size 14. I still consider myself plus size because I have curves, hips, thighs and all. I am showing my journey and will share my lifestyle to show that you don't have to give up everything and eat only salads to be healthy. I indulge but have learned how to indulge the right way and am learning to love myself and my body. I have no desire to be "Skinny" Just healthy and want to be the average sized woman which i have achieved. I may get skin removal surgery in the future but until then I will share all the perfect imperfections that are me. Jamie did that. She started to believe what a mean girl said about her, started to believe she was fat, and she couldn't stop it. She lost weight, too much weight, and it made her sick. She had an eating disorder, and part of her knew it, but she couldn't fix herself. She needed help, but wouldn't go get it. Finally, when her body gave up, she saw the truth - that she was beautiful in the body she was given, and that what we see in the mirror can never be the thing that others may call us. Believing is seeing: a new perspective on body dysmorphia | Meredith Leston | TEDxOxford
This talk highlights the universality of body dysmorphia; this is a condition that affects us all to a greater or lesser degree. Meredith shares how her own experience of anorexia nervosa and the distorted body image that accompanied it drove her to better understand body dysmorphia. She goes on to discuss the variability of body dysmorphia and it’s potential neurological origins. Following on from this she proposes that perhaps a more ‘top-down’ or belief-driven approach to body dysmorhpia should be considered. Rather than examining how visual perception is distorted from the eye-level upwards, she proposes that our own held beliefs about ourselves may distort what we see in the mirror. Our bodies are capable of changing faster than our perceptions of ourselves; in the case of weight loss and weight gain, our beliefs, and even our greatest fears, may alter what we see in the mirror. Meredith Leston is a full-time student studying Experimental Psychology at the University of Oxford. She works as a mental health campaigner and started the campaign ‘Meeting of Minds’ whilst at university. This attempts to bring an academic spotlight to mental health and advocates the need for mental health education in schools. She recently won The Prime Minister’s Point of Light award for work promoting mental health awareness. After graduating she intends to start a charity focusing on providing developing countries with mental health education and infrastructure. She will also begin her PhD investigating gender differences in mental illness at Oxford this September. How to Lose Weight as a Vegan | Heart to Heart ❤️
One of the most common assumptions about the vegan lifestyle is that a strict plant-based diet will lead to easy weight loss. Lots of people become vegan for this reason alone. I get it. When I first became interested in eating "healthy" it was because I was dealing with body image issues, and wanted to 1) lose weight, and 2) not feel guilty after I ate. But this video is about more than what you should eat to lose weight––though I'll talk about that. It's about the fact that veganism isn't a diet or an quick fix, but an incredibly rewarding lifestyle. Eating a whole food vegan diet will help you achieve your optimal weight, but it will also help you be your healthiest, most vibrant self. By eating a whole food vegan diet (for me that includes 80% unprocessed wholesome foods, and 20% refined vegan items), I have been able to achieve and effortlessly maintain my natural weight/size while keeping up a very moderate exercise routine, and just staying active by walking, commuting on my bike, and practicing yoga (rarely vigorous) each day. Whatever your journey to an optimal weight, energy, and vibrancy, I believe that you can find it by adopting a vegan lifestyle. Remember, being thin doesn't mean you're healthy or happy; and being overweight does not mean you're unhealthy or unhappy. Health, happiness, and satisfaction come from your life choices, not from your plate, the scale, or the size on your clothing. Going vegan is so much more than a diet. It's a way to lower your risk of America's top killers (preventable disease!), eat amazingly delicious food, increase your energy levels, have fun in the kitchen, and MOST IMPORTANTLY save animals and walk more gently on the planet :) NOTE: This information is not intended to replace advice from a medical professional (psychologist, psychiatrist, physician, etc).
