How the Vitamins Got Their Names

The list of vitamins can be kind of confusing, what with all those B vitamins and a random K thrown in. But every name has its story. What Are Vitamin D Deficiency Symptoms?

06:05
For more info: https://draxe.com/vitamin-d-deficiency-symptoms/?utm_campaign=Youtube-Apr-2015&utm_medium=social&utm_source=youtube&utm_term=vitaminddeficiency In this video I’m going to talk about the benefits of vitamin D as well as symptoms of vitamin D deficiency. In certain studies, Americans has been found to be the #1 population in vitamin D deficiency. Some of the main symptoms of vitamin D deficiency are a weakened immune system, candida or bacterial overgrowth, emotional ups and downs, hormone imbalance, trouble putting on muscle or losing weight, weakened bones or teeth, cancer, heart disease, or diabetes. Vitamin D supports having a healthy immune response, digestive health, hormone balance, and more. The biggest causes of vitamin D deficiency are not getting enough sunlight, certain chemicals from plastic bottles (bpa), and toxicity. Try to get outside everyday for about 20-30 minutes of natural sunlight. Certain foods that are sources of vitamin D are wild caught fish, raw fermented milk, mushrooms, and eggs. However, there are small amounts in the food you eat. For a good supplement, I would recommend a high quality vitamin D supplement. You don’t want to take vitamin D2, but you do want to take vitamin D3. For supplementation, take about 2000-5000 IUs a day. However, if you have a severe deficiency, then for 1-2 months, you may take 5000 IUs twice daily. Lastly, you want to take your vitamin D3 with some form of fat like coconut oil or avocado to help absorption in your body. Diseases Caused by Malnutrition

02:00
Did you know there are 4 common diseases caused by malnutrition? This video has 4 good reasons to make sure you are getting your vitamins and minerals. Diseases Caused by Malnutrition Scurvy Scurvy is a disease resulting from a deficiency of vitamin C At one time, Scurvy was common among sailors and pirates at sea longer than perishable fruits and vegetables could be stored. Scurvy does not occur in most animals because they can synthesize their own vitamin C. Humans, however, lack an enzyme which is necessary for such synthesis and must obtain vitamin C through diet and/or supplementation. Rickets The primary cause of rickets is vitamin D deficiency. Sunlight, especially ultraviolet light, lets human skin cells convert vitamin D from an inactive to active state. The use of strong sunblock, too much "covering up" in sunlight, or not getting out into the sun can cause Rickets Beriberi Beriberi is a disease in which the body does not have enough thiamine (vitamin B1) beriberi occurs mostly in patients who abuse alcohol. Excess alcohol makes it harder for the body to absorb and store thiamine. taking high doses of diuretics also raise your risk of beriberi Pellagra Pellagra is a vitamin deficiency disease caused by a chronic lack of niacin (vitamin B3) Pellagra is common in people who obtain most of their food energy from maize Pellagra frequently affects populations of refugees and other displaced people due to their unique, long-term residential circumstances and dependence on food aid. Although most of these diseases are rare, they can occur through malnutrition...even in this day and age! Vitamins - What are Vitamins - Types Of Vitamins - Fat Soluble Vitamins - Water Soluble Vitamins

02:41
In this video I discuss what are vitamins, what do vitamins do, and how many vitamins are there. I also discuss the different types of vitamins, water soluble vitamins and fat soluble vitamins. Transcript Intro Whats up dude, and whats up ladies? Bryan again, and in this video I am going to discuss vitamins. We are going to discuss what they are, how many of them there are, and the 2 different categories of vitamins, so, lets roll. So, what exactly are vitamins? Vitamins are non-caloric micronutrients that are needed in small amounts for normal body functions. The best way to consume vitamins is through a variety of nutrient-dense foods. Supplements can be used to treat certain health concerns but there is insufficient evidence of any nutritional benefit in healthy people. However if supplements are consumed choosing a whole food based vitamin may be a viable option. There are a total of 13 vitamins, which are divided into 2 categories, water- soluble which includes vitamin B’s and C; and fat -soluble vitamins A,D,E and K. Water-soluble vitamins cannot be stored in the body, except for B6 and B12, and are readily excreted if not used. Because water-soluble vitamins are not stored in the body, consistent daily intake is important to avoid deficiencies. Water –soluble vitamins are necessary for enzymes involved in metabolism, without water soluble vitamins the enzymes will not work. Unlike water-soluble vitamins, fat-soluble vitamins can be stored in the body for extended periods of time and later excreted. This storage usually occurs in the liver and adipose tissue.. The ability for the healthy body to store fat-soluble vitamins decreases the risk of deficiencies however, over consumption can lead to toxicity, also referred to as hypervitaminosis. When consuming our vitamins through foods, the risk of over consumption is extremely rare. The risk of toxicity usually occurs through high amounts of supplementation. In our vitamin video series, we will be giving each vitamin a rating of 1 to 5. 1 representing little concern and 5 for greatest concern. This is based on if most people are getting enough through their diet. Bottom line: We will discuss the benefits and sources of individual vitamins in future videos. Keep in mind that eating a balanced diet can be difficult. But, try to eat a variety of fruits and vegetables with vibrant colors to consume all of the vital nutrients your body needs. With that said ask your doctor about any possible vitamin deficiencies and alter your diet/supplementation if needed. Comments and questions…like or dislike below.

About 75% of people in the world are deficient, so being deficient in zinc is very common. The 5 warning signs you’re zinc deficient: 1.) If you get sick a lot or have immune system issues 2.) Have leaky gut (http://draxe.com/7-signs-symptoms-you-have-leaky-gut/) 3.) If you struggle with diarrhea or IBS 4.) Thinning hair 5.) Inflammatory skin issues like acne, eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis One of the biggest factors in causing zinc deficiency is high levels of emotional stress. The second most common cause of zinc deficiency is over-exercise. The third most common reason your zinc deficient is if you’re pregnant or breast feeding. Lastly, if you’re older, you may tend to have malabsorption, which causes a zinc deficiency. In order to get more zinc in your diet, you need to consume more zinc-rich foods. The top 5 zinc-rich foods are pumpkin seeds, oysters, grass-fed beef, sprouted nuts and seeds, and peas. Vitamins for ED - what vitamins are you missing to help with erectile dysfunction (impotence)

06:32
Vitamins for ED - what vitamins are you missing to help with erectile dysfunction (impotence) Free report - http://healthyat60plus.com/erectiledysfunction Questions - call me at 609-410-4790 Why take expensive prescription medication when natural remedies may work just as well. Vitamins, supplements and herbs help repair your body so that you can regain your sexual health. If you do a Google search in this area you're going to see that there are some common vitamins that are recommend for help with erectile dysfunction. We'll quickly review these because we want to introduce you to a vitamin combination that is not typically found in a Google search but one that we believe will have a tremendous impact on addressing the root cause of most ED issues. That root cause is poor nitric oxide production. Now we'd like to introduce you to two that you don't normally see but can have a major impact on ED because they directly effect your ability to create nitric oxide. They are vitamins D3 and K2. Before we talk about why you need them let's first address the cause of most ED issues. It's the lack of nitric oxide production. On the screen is a picture of your vascular system as it ages. The first item to note is the drastic reduction in nitric oxide production as you age. By the time you reach the age of 60 your nitric oxide production could have decreased by as much as 85%. This reduction in the production of nitric oxide is due to damage to the interior lining of all of your cardiovascular system. This lining is called the endothelium and it regulates most of your cardiovascular health and blood flow. There are four major factors that damage this tissue leading to plaque formations and calcification. They are: high blood pressure high blood glucose or sugar levels cholesterol particularly LDL or Bad Cholesterol and Smoking Why is this important? Because it's estimated that 65% of all ED issues are caused by atherosclerosis, which is placque formations and arteriosclerosis, which is calcification of the vascular wall. Vitamins D3 and K2 directly address this damage. First, vitamin K2 has been shown to reverse arterial calcification helping to return more of the endothelium back into a healthy, functioning tissue. This results in improve nitric oxide production. Second, the production of nitric oxide by the endothelium is a calcium dependent reaction. The combination of vitamins D3 and K2 help to properly regulate calcium levels in your bloodstream to help optimize this nitric oxide product. Third, as you increase your nitric oxide production to high enough levels over a long enough period of time, this process initiates reparative mechanisms that heal additional damage done to the endothelium. This returns even more surface volume back into play resulting in even higher levels of nitric oxide production. This benefits both improved cardiovascular and sexual health. This means that you can substantially reduce your risk for heart disease while increasing your ability to enjoy better sex because you have enough nitric oxide to initiate and maintain an erection. ------------------------------------------------------------- Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/pages/Healthy-at-60-Plus/1483227541991163 Website - http://healthyat60plus.com/erectiledysfunction Channel - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLOXU3yAse1ZJOrh-3PxTxEwVt-U_76gZT

The cells that support strong, healthy hair shafts depend on a balanced diet, just like every other parts of our organism. If you follow a unbalanced diet, you may not notice the negative effects on your hair right away. It can take much longer to notice positive or negative changes. • In just 7 days with a bad diet, this can develop acne flare-ups; • In just some days you can notice a very sallow skin but • It can take up to 30 days or more of nutritional deficiency and junk food, for the effects to really show up and be evident on your hair. The nutrients you eat today help the hair follicle stay vibrant and strong. Yes, of course there are other factors connected with your hair’s health and there’s more to it than your diet. If you smoke excessively for example, or if you don’t sleep well and may you have some be hormonal imbalances, well your hair will still be in trouble, and have a tendency to fall out. If the micro blood flow to your hair follicles diminuishes, well you can’t really help your hair, unless you do the necessary vasodilation of the capillaries that permit the blood to reach the roots and follicles. But if you eat a balanced, varied, protein-rich diet based on the foods mentioned in the video and in this article, you’ll be giving your hair the exact nutrition it needs to be healthy. So, here are the top 5 foods for stronger and healthier hair: 1. Blueberries Exotic fruits may have lots of qualities, but when it comes to vitamin C, it’s hard to top this nutritional fruit. Vitamin C is very important for blood circulation to the scalp and supports the small blood vessels that feed your hair. Too little C in your diet can eventually cause your hair to break. The alternatives I recommend are strawberries, kiwis and tomatoes. 2. Spinach Spinach, among the other minerals and elements, contains folate, beta carotene, a good source of iron, and lots of vitamin C that I have just mentioned: these factors contribute to keep the hair follicles healthy and promote blood flow. The alternatives I recommend are: similar dark leafy vegetables, such as broccoli, swiss chard, and kale. 3. Lentils Lentils are really full of protein, iron, zinc, and even biotin, and this makes them a great nutritional element for both vegetarians and those who eat meat and every thing else. The alternatives I recommend are other beans such as soybeans and kidney beans. 4. Salmon The flesh of this pink delicious fish is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin D and different proteins: all key elements to have vibrant hair. Our body can’t make these fatty acids by itself, but these are really needed to grow hair. A tiny percentage of the hair shaft is made up of these fatty acids, which are also located in the cell membranes in the skin of our scalp. Introducing salmon in your diet can help integrating these beneficial acids in our body, helping our hair to grow healthier. If this fish is not your favorite, you can also get essential fatty acids from other fishes like trout mackerel and sardines. Other good sources are avocado, pumpkin seeds, and walnuts. 5. Walnuts Walnuts are the only type of nut that have a decent amount of omega-3 fatty acids, but also the other nuts they have of course. They’re also rich in vitamin E and biotin, which helps protect our cells from DNA damage. Biotin is extremely important for our hair, shafts and too little of it can lead to hair thinning. These nuts contain also the mineral copper, which helps maintain the natural color of our hair. Well, thanks for reading the article, and subscribe for more info about how to stop hair loss with nutrition, tricks and a lot of other info.

Calcium Deficiency: Discover Here Calcium Vitamins, Calcium Foods, Facts and Stop disease

02:58
http://tinyurl.com/kruvsm8 Calcium Deficiency: Discover Here Calcium Vitamins, Calcium Foods, Facts and Stop disease Taking calcium supplements is a great idea, since you are probably not getting all of the calcium you need in your diet. However, since calcium tends to interfere with the absorption of other minerals, it is also best to take a multivitamin that provides other minerals. What type of calcium supplements should you take? The best calcium supplements to take are ones that contains: Calcium 1000 – 1500 mg Magnesium 400 – 600 mg Vitamin D, called D3 So what are the daily requirements for calcium? Daily requirements for calcium are between 1000 to 1500mg. The type of supplement and the amount you take depends on your ability to absorb calcium. This is difficult to determine, so it is best to take the high end of calcium – 1500 mg Here are some minimum calcium supplementation requirements. Keep in mind that if you can get this amount in your food then you don’t need to take calcium supplements. Infants 7-12 months 270 mg Children 4-8 years 800mg Males 31-50 1000mg Females 31-50 1000mg Pregnant and lactating 1000mg Here is a list of foods highest in calcium: Seaweed – dulse, kelp, Irish moss, wakame, nori, sombu, agar Sardines with bones Tempeh, tofu Avocados, figs, prunes All dark greens, collard greens, spinach, kale, Unprocessed seeds and nuts – sesame seeds, grains, and nuts It is best to use calcium supplements in chelated form. Here are some of the types of calcium amino acid chelates you should look for and buy. Calcium ascorbate – a form of calcium that is tied to vitamin C Calcium Lactate Calcium hydroxyapatite – the type of calcium found in your bones Calcium Glycinate Calcium Caprylate Calcium Malate Calcium Gluconate There you are information to help you get more Calcium into your body. Thiamine Deficiency Symptoms – 15 Signs of it and 5 Really Cool Things it can Do!

04:10
http://utahtexans.com/ Click on the link above for a free video guide to shopping for supplements and using herbal medicines! In this video I'm going to share some of the leading thiamine deficiency symptoms, as well as a few really nifty things this nutrient can do Thiamine also goes by the name of vitamin b1 and played a big role in the discovery of vitamins. After it was discovered that oranges and citrus fruits prevented scurvy with sailors there was this other big disease plaguing people and do you know what that was? It starts with the letter B. It's called beriberi. Just like the role of oranges to scurvy in the late 1900's it was discovered that removing the husks or outer layer of rice caused beriberi. This disease really hurt Japanese and Asian sailors since most of their diet was rice. Then a little later in time this substance received the name vitamin b1 or thiamine. Do you know why this vitamin was called B1? It is because it was the very first B vitamin discovered. You might be wondered what is so bad about beriberi right? Beriberi can either affect the cardiovascular system known as wet beriberi or it can attack the nervous system and that is known as dry beribery. If beribery affects the nervous system all kinds of problems can develop. According to Healthgrades.com There could be problems with walking, coordination, slurred speech, confusion or memory problems. Next a person could feel tingling in the hands or feet, uncontrolled eye movement and possibly vomiting. If beribery is wet it affects the cardiovascular system. Someone may experience fatigue, abnormal heart rhythms, shortness of breath, chest pains, coughing, leg pains and possibly swelling. The great thing is that all these symptoms can be eliminated if someone gets enough of this vitamin. However, if treatment is delayed what do you think is going to happen? Yep all these annoying problems could become permanent. We know that thiamine is vital for life and that is why it's called a vitamin. Apart from preventing beriberi it can reduce the chance of someone getting cataracts. According to Oregon State University a study of nearly 3,000 Australian men and women found that those with the highest level of vitamin B1 were 40% less likely to have cataracts than those with the lowest levels. It also does things like maybe prevent cancer, Alzheimer's, heart failure and it can eliminate free radicals. In conclusion just make sure you get enough of this stuff. You could get it through diet a lone, however I think it makes more sense to take a quality supplement. The reality is that farmers use chemicals to grow their crops bigger and faster, but it depletes the nutritional value of the food that we are consuming. Plus consuming a quality supplement will give antioxidants that can do so many wonderful things. Supplements and alternative medicine can be confusing and even harmful. Make things really simple and give your body a HUGE edge by viewing a free video guide I created at http://utahtexans.com/.

Bruce Ames: Vitamin & Mineral Inadequacy Accelerates Aging-associated Disease

01:03:13
Most of the world’s population, even in developed countries, has inadequate intake of one or more of the 30 essential vitamins and minerals. An unbalanced diet with too much refined food provides calories, but not enough vitamins and minerals. Triage theory posits that, as a result of recurrent shortages of vitamins and minerals during evolution, natural selection developed a strategic rationing response to moderate shortages so that the scarce vitamins and minerals are preferentially retained by vitamin and mineral-dependent proteins that are essential for short-term survival and reproduction. In contrast, proteins needed for long-term health, which I term “longevity proteins” because they defend against the diseases associated with aging, are starved for the vitamins and minerals and thus are disabled. Moreover, since the damage from moderate deficiency is insidious, its importance for long-term health is not clinically apparent. Strong support for triage theory comes from our analyses of published data on proteins dependent on vitamin K and on selenium. Both of these have built into metabolism a triage-like trade-off between short-term survival and long-term health; each uses a different mechanism to accomplish this end. Mechanistic, genetic, and epidemiological evidence suggests that this metabolic trade-off accelerates aging-associated diseases, such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, immune dysfunction, and cognitive decline. Much of the U.S. population is currently well below the official U.S. Institute of Medicine Estimated Average Requirements for many important vitamins and minerals. This is especially true for children, adolescents, elders, and the obese. The U.S. population also has a very low intake of DHA/EPA omega-3 intake. About half of the proteins we have studied are longevity proteins. This implies the existence of an undiscovered class of longevity vitamins and minerals, which we are exploring and discovering. Dr. Ames is a Professor Emeritus of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of California, Berkeley, and a Senior Scientist at Children’s Hospital Oakland Research Institute. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences. He was on the board of directors of the National Cancer Institute, the National Cancer Advisory Board, from 1976 to 1982. His awards include: the General Motors Cancer Research Foundation Prize (1983), the Tyler Environmental Prize (1985), the Gold Medal Award of the American Institute of Chemists (1991), the Glenn Foundation Award of the Gerontological Society of America (1992), the Honda Prize of the Honda Foundation, Japan (1996), the Japan Prize, (1997), the Medal of the City of Paris (1998), the U.S. National Medal of Science (1998), the Linus Pauling Institute Prize for Health Research (2001), the American Society for Microbiology Lifetime Achievement Award (2001), the Thomas Hunt Morgan Medal from the Genetics Society of America (2004), and the American Society for Nutrition/CRN M.S. SUBSCRIBE: https://www.youtube.com/user/DrJohnKiel FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/medicinelifestyle TWITTER: https://twitter.com/LifestyleMedYou Hey folks, Dr Kiel here, and I want to take a few minutes to talk about the research and evidence regarding vitamin D supplementation and testosterone. There’s a fair amount of research out there that is compelling and growing, so I took some time to summarize and condense it for your benefit. How does vitamin D regulate testosterone? Primarily this occurs because vitamin D inhibits the process of aromatization in which testosterone is changed into estrogen. It also appears that vitamin D may enhance the sensitivity of cell receptors in the testicular glands that produce testosterone. The best source of vitamin D is natural sunlight. However, that’s not always an option and dietary sources include fatty fish (salmon, tuna, mackerel), fish liver, beef liver, cheese, egg yolks, and fortified foods (namely, milk and breakfast cereals). Many of these studies are looking at individuals who have a deficiency in vitamin D for one reason or another. Like most vitamins, minerals and supplements, there is almost certainly a saturation point at which the benefits subside. Regarding testosterone, it seems relatively clear that men with low vitamin D will have an increase in testosterone when they begin supplementing. That benefit is not as obvious or well studied in men who have normal levels of vitamin D. And on a final note, in the grand scheme of things, vitamin D supplementation has relatively few, if any major side effects when taken at the recommended daily allowance and should be part of a baseline supplement regimen for weight lifters.
