My EPIC Body Transformation Progress So Far on my Journey to becoming a Natural Bodybuilder. In this video I am going to show you how and why I decided to go from Fat to Fit and change my body for good. If I've missed anything out and you want to ask me a question, I'd be more than happy to answer!
On January 1st 2011 I decided I didn't want to be the fat guy staring back at me in the mirror. I'm 5'8 and at the time was hovering around 230lbs but I distinctly remember one time in my life I was touching 17st. For someone of my height, it wasn't a good look...
So I decided I had to make a pact with myself... set myself a challenge, a goal, a destination. Not only would I transform my physique for good but I would prove myself by entering a Natural Bodybuilding Competition... Sound's extreme? Sometimes you gotta be.
So I started back at the gym but just did old routines... the type of stuff you find in magazines... isolations after isolations... keep you interested but you don't really get anywhere. It wasn't until May 2011 that I stumbled upon Bodybuilding.com forums and that is where I started to read and learn about many effective routines, one of which was Growth Stimulus Training (GST).
Once I started GST, the gains in strength came in quite nicely, I was getting stronger each week and I was losing a bit of weight but I still looked fat. I figured there had to be something I wasn't doing right... Everybody else was seeing sharp, impressive results... but I wasn't! There had to be something else...
I never used to track calories or macros or anything in my diet for that matter - my opinion was "as long as I eat lots of Protein, I will get in shape as Protein = Muscle"... Oh how wrong and naive was I!
I started tracking both calories and macros and also started reading into the Ketogenic Diet. This seemed like the diet for me! Eat lots of eggs, meat and fat... get thin! So that's what I did. I didn't do it properly as I know now... I did SKD when I really should of done CKD... for that reason I lost a lot of body fat but also a lot of strength.
By Jan 1st 2012 I had lost around 46lbs in total. Everyone could see it and I got plenty of compliments on my achievement. This was great and all but it wasn't enough... I now had to get some size and strength back.
So I scrapped Keto and went back to a normal balanced diet. I bulked from around February 2012 to May 2012 and gained a lot of strength and size but quite a bit of fat. In May I decided I was going to do a second cut and get down to a decent level of body fat before my holiday (because well... I've never been on holiday with a good body before!).
Taking a slow and steady approach, with a 1lb a week loss mantra, I managed to ditch the puppy fat I had gained and keep most of my strength. By October 2012 I was looking in the best shape of my life (so far). I had muscle, size, strength and for the first time some actual definition! It was through this time that I experimented with Intermittent Fasting, an eating pattern to this day I am now a big fan of.
At the time of writing this, I am on my way back up going through another steady bulk, in which I'm hoping to gain some more lean mass and continue to build the foundations for my competitive physique... as long as it happens before I am 30 (currently 27) then I will have stayed true to myself.
Thanks for watching, appreciate the support!
