Great Molasses Flood: animated retelling of Boston’s molasses tank catastrophe of 1919 - TomoNews

02:20
BOSTON — It’s been referred to as the Great Molasses Flood, the day a tank filled with more than 2 million gallons of molasses burst, and swept through Boston’s city streets swallowing everything in its path. The exact reason for what caused the tank to blow has yet to be known, but cheap materials, faulty maintenance and weather conditions largely factored into the extent of the damage done. Reports indicate that on Jan. 15, 1919, the weather in Boston was a cool 41 degrees Fahrenheit, an unseasonably warm temperature for that time of year. The open hearth steel iron tank, stationed over at the city’s North End neighborhood, stood 50 feet tall and measured 90 feet in diameter. The tank had been filled 29 times before and had received 2.3 million gallons of molasses from Puerto Rico two day prior. Apparently, basic safety procedures weren’t adhered to. Having leaked many times in the past, the tank was painted brown to hide the leaks. A steep price for the neglect was paid when, on that fateful afternoon, rivets burst along the side of tank. Locals said it sounded like a machine gun firing. Suddenly, the top of the tank blew off, and its circular iron walls ripped apart, pulled in opposite directions. Twenty-six million pounds of warm molasses were unleashed upon the city, moving at a speed of roughly 35 miles per hour. Some reports at the time indicated a 40-foot wave of syrup oozed through the city, crushing buildings and overturning vehicles. The molasses was so powerful, it knocked an elevated rail off its tracks and hurled a truck into the Boston Harbor. Horses, dogs and humans were swept up and scattered through the city. The molasses waist-deep, their attempts to struggle and escape the sticky goo only proved to worsen their plight. The warmer temperature is believed to have caused the molasses to cool faster than it would have in the summer, impeding rescue efforts. The disaster claimed the lives of 21 people and left 150 badly injured. Nearly a century later, the exact cause of the tank’s failures remain unknown, but fermentation, hasty construction and thin, brittle steel walls have been suspected as reasons for its undoing. ------------------------------------------------------------- TomoNews is your best source for real news. Evil doll: couple attacked by doll sells it on eBay, then attacks new owner's dad - TomoNews

02:07
ROTHERHAM, ENGLAND — A series of eerie events that've been following a seemingly harmless-looking china doll In the U.K. are freaking people out left and right. Debbie Merrick, 50, purchased the doll back in late June from a second hand store for 5 quid, but she apparently had no idea what she'd bargained for. She and her husband Cameron Merrick, 50, claim the doll attacked him in his sleep, in the form of leaving mysterious scratch marks on the back of his leg. Debbie claims she's found the doll in different spots, and not only does she think it can move, but she's convinced it took its own necklace off in the box. Having had enough, Debbie stuffed the doll in a box, taped it shut, and threw it up for auction on eBay, before throwing it in the shed until shipping it away. The doll was bought by Lee Steer, 30, a self-proclaimed paranormal investigator who wanted to know whether there was indeed something mystical or demonic about the doll. Shortly after winning the auction bid at £866, Lee's purchase may have proved its worth in terms of authenticity. A mere two days after the doll came into his possession, Lee's father claims he also found scratch marks under his arm, that appear eerily similar to the ones on Debbie Merrick's husband's arms. Lee and his parents claim lights in their home have been flickering, strange noises are becoming more frequent, and things in the house have been turning up cracked, broken, or just moving on their own. Lee claims his father is a believer, but he remains a skeptic. In an interview with the Rotherham Advertiser, Lee was quoted as saying "I want it in my bedroom so I can get attacked. I really want to be proved wrong....I really want to push it. I am asking to get scratched." His personal beliefs aside, he's still billing it as "the most expensive haunted item ever bought on eBay." ------------------------------------------------------------- Go to https://www.patreon.com/tomonews and become a Patron now TomoNews is now on Patreon and we've got some cool perks for our hardcore fans. Yellowstone volcano eruption: How NASA plans to protect Earth from a supervolcanic end - TomoNews

01:59
YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, U.S.A — NASA plans to stop the Yellowstone caldera from erupting by pumping it full of water and siphoning geothermal energy from it. According to the BBC, the space agency has developed a plan to drill underneath Yellowstone and pump it's magma chamber full of water, extracting the heat. Cooling the magma rock would occur at a rate of 1 meter per year, meaning it could take thousands of years to eliminate the risk of eruption. The cost of NASA's plan is estimated to be US$3.5 billion, the BBC reports. The space agency expects the clean energy derived from heat extraction would offset this via lower power costs and the creation of geothermal plants in the area. ------------------------------------------------------------- Go to https://www.patreon.com/tomonews and become a Patron now TomoNews is now on Patreon and we've got some cool perks for our hardcore fans. Military technology 2017: DARPA testing robot warship that can hunt enemy submarines - TomoNews

05:53
ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA — The U.S. military is currently testing an autonomous sea vessel with the ability to track enemy submarines. The Sea Hunter is being trialled by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). It’s designed primarily to hunt submarines equipped with quiet electric-diesel engines. The 40-meter-long vessel can travel at 31 miles per hour and has no armaments. Its design resembles a Polynesian outrigger canoe. This helps it navigate the ocean and handle challenging 6-meter-high waves. According to the Department of Defence, advanced software and hardware allow it to operate autonomously around other vessels and remain at sea for months at a time. Testing is expected to finish in 2018. If it is successful, it will be handed over to the U.S. Navy. ------------------------------------------------------------- TomoNews is your best source for real news. Guard dog: german shepherd attacks intruder, family returns to find blood on the walls - TomoNews

01:33
RICHMOND, VIRGINIA — A pet german shepherd has proven his worth as a guard dog, after his family arrived home to find blood splattered across the walls of their house, likely from an intruder. On August 10, Tristan Murran and his mother walked through their front door, their dog Oden waiting patiently near the entrance. At first glance, everything seemed normal, but a few paces deeper into their home revealed blood on the walls, the doors, the carpeted stairs, and all across the second floor of their house. Tristan claims Oden has never attacked anyone before or shown any signs of aggression, but he clearly has it in him when he finds himself in the line of duty. So far, there are no leads on a potential suspect. The family posted a video of the crime scene in their home on Facebook, which has since racked up more than 17 million views. According to ABC News 8, authorities suspect the intruder must have required medical attention following the failed break and enter attempt. ------------------------------------------------------------- Go to https://www.patreon.com/tomonews and become a Patron now TomoNews is now on Patreon and we've got some cool perks for our hardcore fans. Phone charger injuries: Nebraska teen’s charger-in-foot injury goes viral - TomoNews

05:04
PAPILLION, NEBRASKA — An 18 year-old girl’s viral pictures of her nasty charger-in-foot injury are teaching kids everywhere why they should always clean their rooms. Julia Pechar, 18, was watching Netflix last Tuesday inside her seriously messy bedroom when she got up to get some popcorn, and when she did, she stepped on the charger. According to the Omaha World-Herald, the high-school student then took the photos of her foot and her room. She called on her mom Mary, who pulled the charger out. The tweet accompanying the photos reads: “When your room is this messy, you have to accept the consequences of not being able to see where you step”. The photos have been retweeted some 13,000 times and have been featured in news around the globe. Pechar was treated with a tetanus shot and is on antibiotics following the injury, reported the Omaha World-Herald. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Go to https://www.patreon.com/tomonews and become a Patron now TomoNews is now on Patreon and we've got some cool perks for our hardcore fans. Hero golden retriever: Injured owner saved from freezing to death on NYE by loyal dog - TomoNews

06:14
HARBOR SPRINGS, MICHIGAN — The year 2017 started out horribly for one Michigan man, who spent New Year’s Day injured and helpless in the snow. Luckily, it was man’s best friend to the rescue. The Petoskey News Review reports that around 10:30 p.m. on Dec. 31, Bob (the newspaper did not publish his name citing “privacy reasons”) ran out in his slippers and pajamas to get another log for his fire. Halfway there, he slipped and fell on the ice, breaking his neck, which rendered him paralyzed. Unable to move, he screamed for help. But with the nearest neighbor a quarter mile away, it was his 5-year-old golden retriever Kelsey that ran to his side. The temperature dipped to freezing, but Kelsey stayed by Bob, barking for help and licking his face and hands to keep him warm. The 64-year-old lost consciousness, but Kelsey’s howling eventually got the attention of a neighbor, who finally discovered Bob 20 hours later. He was rushed to the hospital, where a doctor performed emergency surgery to save him. Miraculously, he didn’t have frostbite, and is recovering nicely — a feat he claims he owes to two heroes: his dog, and his doctor. ------------------------------------------------------------- TomoNews is your best source for real news. Tree man disease: Bangladesh man receives 16 surgeries to restore hands to normal - TomoNews

05:35
DHAKA, BANGLADESH — It may have taken a year and an insane number of surgeries, but this Bangladeshi man couldn’t be happier to finally have his hands and feet back. CNN reports that Abul Bajander suffers from epidermodysplasia verruciformis, a rare disease that began causing lesions to appear on his skin at age 10. The lesions worsened over time, eventually encompassing both his hands and making it difficult for him to make a living as a rickshaw driver. Bark-like growths had also started sprouting from his hands and feet, making it impossible to do anything except scratch his neck. The 27-year-old has been dubbed “Tree Man” by international media, and is one of only four people in the world to ever be diagnosed with the disease. Doctors in Dhaka offered to treat him free of charge, and moved him and his family to the hospital last February to begin the first of many groundbreaking surgeries. Sixteen operations later, doctors have removed eleven pounds of growth and restored tree man’s hands. He’ll still need a few more surgeries for beautification, but he now can at least eat, write, and hold his 3-year-old daughter on his own. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ TomoNews is your best source for real news. Future motorcycles: Honda self-balancing Riding Assist tech keeps bike balanced - TomoNews

04:02
LAS VEGAS — Honda has unveiled a well-balanced piece of motorcycle tech designed to help riders stay in the saddle at low speeds. The Riding Assist concept bike has an adjustable front fork that assumes a wider angle to increase stability and its own motor attached to the front wheel, TechCrunch reported. As anyone who’s ever tried to maneuver a big bike out of a parking lot at low speed knows, keeping balance at 2 or 3 miles an hour is one of the trickiest aspects of riding. The bike was revealed earlier this week at tech tradeshow CES 2017 in Las Vegas. Although there’s no plans to bring it to market soon, the concept bike shows how Honda’s investment in robotics can have spin-off benefits for its vehicles. The technology behind the Riding Assist bike was honed in the development of both Honda’s humanoid Asimo robot and UNI-CUB scooter, according to TechCrunch. Personal robots like Asimo are likely still a decade away from being ready to be sold to consumers. However, the legacy technology from the development of Asimo and the UNI-CUB could help bring real improvements to Honda’s vehicles much sooner than that. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Subway Jared beaten: Inmate who beat up Jared Fogle explains why he did it - TomoNews

06:09
LITTLETON, COLORADO — Former Subway spokesman Jared Fogle got the pulp punched out of him by another prisoner, as he serves a 15-year sentence for sexually abusing minors and storing a trove of child pornography on his computer. Now, that man has come forward with his explanation of why he attacked Fogle. In a letter obtained by TMZ, Steve Nigg, 61, reveals that Fogle was looked at “like a God” by the other child molesters at the penitentiary. As a result, Fogle apparently carried himself as if he was royalty, and hired personal bodyguards to protect him on the grounds. But when Nigg cornered him in the yard on January 29, 2016, one of Fogle’s bodyguards stepped aside to let Nigg pulverize him. The incident report states Jared suffered a bloody nose, scratches to the neck, and redness and swelling to his face. Nigg walked away with a small cut on his hand and an abrasion on his left knee from the concrete, but it also robbed him of the good credit he’d built up for a chance at early release. He says he spent many months in solitary confinement, and lost privileges such as commissary and email access. Still, he admits he has no regrets, and claims he did it for Fogle’s victims and their families. Following the assault, Nigg was moved to a prison far away in Oklahoma, because he reportedly told prison officials if given the chance, he’d attack Fogle again for his hatred toward child molesters. Nigg previously served 13 years of a 15-year sentence for robbing a motel clerk, a convenience store and a gas station at gunpoint. After being released in 1990, he was put back behind bars in 2011 for being in possession of a firearm with three previous convictions of a violent felony. By most accounts from those who knew him after his first sentence was completed, Nigg was a decent man who was actively involved in his community, even teaching kids martial arts, and voluntarily dressing up like Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny for annual holidays. ------------------------------------------------------- For news that's fun and never boring, visit our channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/TomoNewsUS Subscribe to stay updated on all the top stories: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCt-WqkTyKK1_70U4bb4k4lQ?sub_confirmation=1 Visit our website for all the latest, uncensored videos: http://us.tomonews.net Check out our Android app: http://bit.ly/1rddhCj Check out our iOS app: http://bit.ly/1gO3z1f Stay connected with us here: Facebook http://www.facebook.com/TomoNewsUS Twitter @tomonewsus http://www.twitter.com/TomoNewsUS Google+ http://plus.google.com/+TomoNewsUS/ Instagram @tomonewsus http://instagram.com/tomonewsus -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Please watch: "Crying dog breaks the internet’s heart — but this sad dog story has a happy ending" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4prKTN9bYQc -~-~~-~~~-~~-~-

Life after death? Study shows mind remains aware even after the body is technically dead - TomoNews

06:32
NEW YORK CITY — Research from the NYU Langone School of Medicine suggests that people's consciousness continue to work even after they have been pronounced dead. According to the study published in the journal Resuscitation, doctors define death as the moment the heart stops beating, cutting off circulation and halting brain and other organ function. Scientists looked at patients who flatlined but were later revived and found that 39% reported some form of awareness while technically dead. Several recalled full conversations, and saw things happening around them- details which were verified by staff present at the time. Theoretically, this could mean the recently deceased are fully aware of their condition, and may even hear the pronouncement of their own death. The study suggests the awareness may be a result of a burst of energy that is released in the brain immediately post-mortem. This finding has been echoed in a 2013 research from the University of Michigan, which observed brain patterns pointing to a 'hyper-alerted state' in nine clinically dead rats. ------------------------------------------------------------- TomoNews is your best source for real news. With Japan's location along the Pacific Ring of Fire making it prone to earthquakes, citizens are continually finding ways to protect the country's infrastructure. CNN reports that textile company Komatsu Seiren has created threads made from thermoplastic carbon fiber composite, which are braided to form a strong yet flexible rod that's as strong as iron, but 90 percent lighter. The rods have been installed outside the company's building - draping all around the structure and essentially tethering the roof to the ground. They are also inside the building, and serve to strengthen the interior walls. When the ground shifts from side to side during an earthquake, the rods stretch and pull the structure back in the opposite direction to prevent shaking. The project is a collaboration between Komatsu and Tokyo-based architectural design firm Kengo Kuma. It will soon be used to reinforce Zenkoji Temple in Nagano, one of Japan's oldest temples. ------------------------------------------------------------- Go to https://www.patreon.com/tomonews and become a Patron now TomoNews is now on Patreon and we've got some cool perks for our hardcore fans. British Airways passenger given an economy class seat that had urine all over it - TomoNews

01:55
LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM — A British man who paid more than £1,200 to fly to South Africa with British Airways says he was very unhappy after he was given a “damp seat” to sit on. Andrew Wilkinson, a 39-year-old IT consultant, boarded a flight from Heathrow to South Africa at the end of July to see his parents. When Wilkinson arrived at his economy class seat, he noticed it was damp, and the staff admitted to him that the wetness was, in fact, urine that was left by a passenger from a previous flight, British news outlet Metro reported. Instead of helping Wilkinson to clean it up, a British Airways flight attendant gave him wet wipes from the lavatory instead, expecting him to take care of it himself. Wilkinson then said he could not sit on a wet seat like the one he was given, the attendant laughed and said, “I can see you are going to work me really hard on this flight, aren’t you?” Wilkinson ended up putting a plastic bag over the seat then covering it with a blanket. After complaining about his experience on Twitter, British Airways contacted Wilkinson and offered him 5,000 of their rewards points and a flight voucher worth £435, or a free upgrade on his next flight to South Africa. However, Wilkinson said that he was not concerned about the compensation, and he simply wants a proper apology. British Airways told the Metro that they were very concerned and have apologized to Wilkinson, they also added that the cabin’s cleanliness is of utmost importance, and they perform frequent spots checks to make sure high standards are met. ------------------------------------------------------------- Go to https://www.patreon.com/tomonews and become a Patron now TomoNews is now on Patreon and we've got some cool perks for our hardcore fans. Eyeball tattoo: Model might get eye removed after eyeball tattoo goes horribly wrong - TomoNews

05:54
ONTARIO, CANADA — A Canadian model could be losing one of her eyes after a botched procedure left it swollen and purple. The Washington Post reports that months ago, Catt Gallinger had her sclera stained by a tattoo artist who was also her then-boyfriend. The artist was horribly inexperienced. He didn't mix the ink with saline, and used a large needle instead of a small one. The injection went too deep into the eye, delivering too much undiluted purple ink in one go, and resulting in an infection. Gallinger felt intense pain shortly afterward, and began leaking purple ink from her eye. She was prescribed antibiotic eye drops, which only helped spread the infection. Soon, a clump formed around her cornea and her eyes swelled shut. Doctors were supposed to operate on the 24-year-old so they could cut out the lump, then do an amniotic tissue graft to replace lost tissue. But when Gallinger attempted to go in for surgery without sedation in November, she suffered the worst panic attack of her life. The missed operation has put her at a higher risk of eye loss, and though sedated surgery is still a possibility, she claims she's now considering eye removal. Gallinger has been open about her ordeal, and hopes it will serve as a cautionary tale to anyone wanting to get similarly risky procedures done. The Ontario government has since added a ban on cosmetic eye tattoos to avoid more cases like Gallinger's. Ambulance drone: Texas company argodesign unveils done that can be used as an ambulance - TomoNews

04:28
AUSTIN, TEXAS — A Texas-based design firm has illustrated plans for an ambulance drone that can help transporting patients faster and more efficiently than regular ambulances or helicopters. The concept of ambulance drone was submitted by argodesign to Co.Design’s Body Week, which features innovative technologies mainly concerning health and related subjects. The ambulance drone is modelled after a standard quadcopter, which is roughly the size of a compact car. The drone can follow a GPS location, be remotely controlled by a pilot, or a combination of both. It can travel on autopilot, while a pilot can control the drone remotely in case of difficult takeoffs and landings. One single pilot can also control a whole fleet of ambulance drones remotely. The drone is able to travel above traffic or other obstacles on the ground, so that it can arrive at its location faster than regular ambulances. Given its relatively small size, the drone could land almost anywhere. "I wouldn’t be surprised to get emails, to hear lots of the aeronautics companies saying, ‘we are working on something like this,’" Mark Rolston, the founder of argodesign told Co.Design. "It makes perfect sense. We may have underestimated the wingspan challenge for lift, but in a greater scheme of things, that’s a trivial part of the idea." -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Please watch: "Crying dog breaks the internet’s heart — but this sad dog story has a happy ending" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4prKTN9bYQc -~-~~-~~~-~~-~-

Eclipse eye damage: Woman gets crescent-shaped eye burn after staring at solar eclipse - TomoNews

07:21
NEW YORK CITY — A woman found out first hand how a solar eclipse fries your eyes, after coming away from the Great American Eclipse with a crescent-shaped eye burn. CNN reports that on August 21, Nia Payne had gone to her boyfriend's workplace at Staten Island to see the eclipse. She peeked at the sun with her naked eye for a few seconds before borrowing glasses from a woman nearby. The 26-year-old didn't know what eclipse glasses were supposed to look like, but claims the sun still seemed bright through the pair she had on. Hours later, she noticed her vision getting blurry, and she began seeing a weird dark spot. She lost partial vision in her left eye the next day. Doctors examining her eyes were shocked to find that the damaged area in the left retina was crescent-shaped, making it look exactly like the eclipse. They suspect that the glasses she used were either defective or fake, which allowed solar radiation to penetrate through and cause retinal damage. The condition, known as solar retinopathy, is permanent and is currently untreatable. Instead, Payne has had to retrain her vision to cope, but she'll probably have a permanent crescent-shaped void in her sight for the rest of her life. WWII bomb: Unexploded bomb that could destroy an entire block defused in Frankfurt - TomoNews

06:06
FRANKFURT, GERMANY — Explosives experts in Frankfurt on Sunday defused a massive bomb — a remnant of the last World War more than 70 years ago. CNN reports that the 1.4 ton HC 4000 bomb was found buried at a construction site close to Goethe University's Frankfurt campus on Tuesday. The discovery prompted authorities to cordon off a 1.5-kilometer radius danger zone around the explosive. Over 60,000 people were evacuated from the area, which was home to hospitals, retirement homes, and the Bundesbank, Germany's central bank. Dubbed 'Blockbuster', the British World War II-era bomb could reportedly generate an explosion capable of flattening an entire block. Of the estimated 1.5 million tons of munitions dropped on Germany by Allied forces, some 15% failed to explode and ended up getting buried, according to the New York Times. Experts say over 2,000 tons of unexploded weaponry are found in the country each year. Despite having a dedicated bomb-disposal unit, Germany's unexploded bombs remain a problem. The aging munitions could become more brittle and unstable, and are reportedly being spotted in harder-to-reach areas, reports the BBC. ------------------------------------------------------------- Go to https://www.patreon.com/tomonews and become a Patron now TomoNews is now on Patreon and we've got some cool perks for our hardcore fans. HIV vaccine: Experimental new vaccine targets protective HIV sugar-protein shield - TomoNews

06:22
COLLEGE PARK, MARYLAND — University of Maryland and Duke University researchers have designed a new vaccine that was able to stimulate an immune response against HIV's protective shield. According to the study published in the journal Cell Chemical Biology, HIV virus cells are covered with a protective protein called GP120, which itself is covered by a sugar shield to help bolster its defenses. Some infected individuals who can keep the virus at bay without medication often have have antibodies that attack the protein. There has been little success in creating a similar vaccine, because the sugars found in the shield resemble sugars in the human body. It's also difficult to engineer antibodies that can be effective against the multiple strains of HIV, which frequently mutate. Using a synthetic chemistry method, scientists have now designed a vaccine combining a gp120 fragment and a sugar molecule, and tested it on HIV-infected rabbits. The vaccine prompted the rabbits' immune systems to produce antibodies that physically bound to gp120 found in four dominant HIV strains. It takes roughly two years to build immunity against HIV, so despite sticking to the virus, the antibodies weren't able to prevent further infection. But the vaccine's ability to induce a strong immune response in a short amount of time is encouraging, and researchers believe further studies can produce a vaccine that can ultimately neutralize the deadly virus. ------------------------------------------------------------- TomoNews is your best source for real news. Alien life found on Titan by NASA? Studies indicate there maybe life on Saturn's moon - TomoNews

04:07
SPACE — New research suggests that Saturn's moon Titan may contain the key elements of life. Using data from NASA's Cassini satellite, one study found that the Titan's upper atmosphere is home to carbon chain anions, reported the Smithsonian Mag. These serve as a stepping stone to more labyrinthine molecules that can develop life, reported Mic. Separately another study in found vinyl cyanide in Titan's atmosphere. Scientists speculate that this forms the the outer wall of a cell and protects the biochemistry that takes place within, reported Universe Today. Titan's atmosphere is some of the most complex observed by astronomers and these studies further bolster the idea the moon maybe home to organic life. The studies were published was published last month in The Astrophysical Journal Letters and Science Advances. ------------------------------------------------------------- Go to https://www.patreon.com/tomonews and become a Patron now TomoNews is now on Patreon and we've got some cool perks for our hardcore fans. HIV cure? New molecule can 'kick and kill' dormant HIV cells hiding in the body - TomoNews

06:14
LOS ANGELES — Researchers may have finally found a way to eliminate the HIV reservoirs that often remain hidden in the body. Science Daily reports that HIV spreads by taking over a cell's DNA and using it to make copies of itself. Most AIDS treatments are engineered to block this replication cycle, effectively stopping the spread of the virus. But though these drugs allow patients to live longer, they do not rid the body of the virus, which hides in reservoirs and re-emerges once treatment stops. A new 'kick and kill' approach aims to get rid of these reservoirs by using a synthetic molecule called SUW133 to wake up the dormant virus, which will then be eliminated by antiretroviral therapy. The technique was developed by researchers from UCLA, Stanford, and the National Institutes of Health, and is detailed in a study published in PLOS Pathogens. When tested on HIV-infected mice that had been given antiretroviral drugs, 25 percent of the once-dormant virus cells died within 24 hours of being reactivated. With further development, researchers believe the technique could lower the viral reservoir enough for infected patients to stop antiretroviral treatment. The molecule will also need to be tested on larger animals before it can go to human trials. ------------------------------------------------------------- TomoNews is your best source for real news. NASA’s New Horizons space ship only 2 years away from its next target after Pluto flyby - TomoNews

07:27
SPACE — NASA’s New Horizons mission is just two years away from its next target, a small Kuiper Belt object that orbits nearly a billion miles beyond Pluto. New Horizons is scheduled to fly by 2014 MU69 on Jan. 1, 2019, making it the most distant object humans have ever explored. 2014 MU69 measures between 25 km to 45 km across. Scientists are not sure how bright the object is. Its albedo reading, the measure of how much light reflects from a surface, may be 0.04 or slightly brighter. By comparison, Pluto has an albedo reading between 0.49 to 0.66, while Mars has a reading of 0.15. New Horizons is currently speeding at a velocity of 14.32 km per second relative to the sun. It is almost halfway between Pluto and its next target, a Kuiper Belt object called 2014 MU69. New Horizons was designed to fly well past Pluto. It carries extra hydrazine fuel for a Kuiper Belt object flyby and its communications system is designed to work from far beyond Pluto. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ TomoNews is your best source for real news. Vertical farming: Plenty receives $200 million investment from tech giants - TomoNews

07:46
SAN FRANCISCO — San Francisco startup Plenty specialized in vertical farming has secured $200 million from investors including Japanese media corporation SoftBank, the parent company of Google, Alphabet and Amazon. Plenty grows their plants vertically on the sides of a tall tower. Lights are also arranged vertically to give the plants maximum amount of exposure. The vertical farm can grow up to 350 times more produce than conventional farm in the same amount of space, using less water too, Fast Company reported. According to the BBC, the firm is planning on building indoor vertical farms with the size up to five acres, which is roughly the size of big supermarkets like Walmart. The facilities will be built next to large cities in order to reduce the amount of delivery time. "We believe that Plenty's team will remake the current food system to improve people's quality of life," Masayoshi Son, chief executive of Softbank Group said in a statement. Plenty was founded in 2013. It now has 100 employees in San Francisco and Wyoming. The firm plans to supply its vertically grown food to market this fall. The firm is not the first nor the only firm specializing in vertical farming. Other firms such as Aerofarms, Bowery and Betterlife Growers are all promoting this innovative farming technology. ------------------------------------------------------------- Go to https://www.patreon.com/tomonews and become a Patron now TomoNews is now on Patreon and we've got some cool perks for our hardcore fans. Rich people problems: Rich SF homeowners lose private street to couple over unpaid taxes - TomoNews

02:00
SAN FRANCISCO — A bunch of wealthy San Francisco homeowners are freaking out after finding out the street inside their posh, gated community had been sold to the highest bidder. The San Francisco Chronicle reports that couple Tina Lam and Michael Cheng paid $90,000 at a 2015 city auction for an oval-shaped street inside swanky Presidio Terrace, which includes pavements, trees and all other common areas. Ironic, considering the fact that until a racial covenant was banned in 1948, only whites were allowed to buy property there. Both Lam and Cheng are of Asian descent. Lam and Cheng owe their thanks to unpaid property taxes — specifically, the three decades worth of taxes the Presidio homeowners association didn't pay and claim they had no knowledge of. Supposedly, the bills were being sent to an old accountant that hadn't worked for the homeowners since the 80s. When no one paid up, the city auctioned off the property to recover the $944 they were owed. And oh man, did they recover it. The deal is pretty sweet for the new landowners too, who could start charging for parking privileges, or lease it out to people beyond the gates. Even selling it back to the association is going to get them a pretty penny. But pissed-off Presidio residents are crying foul and are trying to get their street back the best way they know how — by suing the crap out of everyone. They're claiming the sale was unlawful, the city didn't go to enough effort to notify them beforehand, and the buyers are taking advantage of the bureaucratic oversight. The city Board of Supervisors has scheduled a hearing for October after the residents petitioned to have the sale rescinded. ------------------------------------------------------------- Go to https://www.patreon.com/tomonews and become a Patron now TomoNews is now on Patreon and we've got some cool perks for our hardcore fans. Passenger’s fart forces American Airlines flight to land, aircraft evacuated - TomoNews

05:48
RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA— Passengers on an American Airlines flight were all evacuated on Sunday afternoon when someone farted so hard that it made people sick. An unknown passenger reportedly passed gas and it stunk so bad that it warranted an actual deplaning. The fart apparently made passengers on the plane feel nauseated and overcome with headaches, CBS-affiliate WNCN reported. The plane quickly landed at Raleigh-Durham International Airport in North Carolina and passengers were let off the aircraft. Luckily, no casualties were reported from the incident. American Airlines later released a statement that said they did have an aircraft from Charlotte travelling Raleigh. The flight landed at 2:19 p.m. local time, and went out of service for an actual mechanical issue — and odor in the cabin. But it was not due to “passed gas”. Farts, flatus, or flatulence can actually make you sick. It is comprised of minor sulfur gas components — including hydrogen sulfide, and depending on the amount, it can cause headaches, nausea, skin and eye irritation. ------------------------------------------------------------- Go to https://www.patreon.com/tomonews and become a Patron now TomoNews is now on Patreon and we've got some cool perks for our hardcore fans. POINT NEMO — Nations around the world bring down old spacecraft when possible in the most remote place on Earth called Point Nemo, Business Insider reported. Smaller satellites burn up in the atmosphere upon reentry, but larger pieces can reach Earth's surface. The spacecraft graveyard is around 1,450 nautical miles away from any land. It lies in the South Pacific in a no-man's land between Australia, New Zealand and South America, according to the BBC. This oceanic pole of inaccessibility covers an area around 580 square miles (1,500 sq km) and is home to more than 260 dead spacecraft, mostly Russian, the BBC reported. China lost control of its Tiangong-1 space station in March 2016, which is now expected to crash into the Earth by early 2018. Since the Chinese are not in control of the spacecraft, they are currently unsure where pieces of the station will make contact. Experts won't be able to make predictions until days before Tiangong-1 is expected to break up in the atmosphere. ------------------------------------------------------------- TomoNews is your best source for real news. Muscle cramps explained: What’s causing this guy’s leg to spasm horrifically? - TomoNews

06:52
EL MONTE, CALIFORNIA — A California man’s post-gym downtime turned horrifying fast, after his leg began spasming intensely. Angel Bermudez wrote on Facebook that he was sitting in his car when the painful cramps started. He went on to film the ordeal, which lasted at least 50 seconds, and put it up online, where it has since gotten at least 14 million views. Muscle cramping is a common issue with people who work out or play sports. But what exactly causes it? According to Scientific American, skeletal muscles like those in the leg and arms move in response to signals from the brain. If this process malfunctions or becomes hyperactive, it can lead to painful and prolonged contractions, otherwise known as muscle cramps. Cramps are sometimes caused by muscle strain, either by overusing a particular muscle or holding a position for too long. Other factors that may contribute to cramping are heat, dehydration, and electrolyte imbalance. Experts suggest stretching both as a way to soothe cramps and as a means to prevent them. ------------------------------------------------------------- Go to https://www.patreon.com/tomonews and become a Patron now TomoNews is now on Patreon and we've got some cool perks for our hardcore fans. Loyal dog: dog protects injured dog stuck on train tracks for two days in snowy weather - TomoNews

06:50
UZHHOROD — An injured dog that was stranded on snowy train tracks near Uzhhorod in Ukraine was watched over by her loyal friend for two days until help arrived. Local resident Denis Malafeev found the two dogs, named Lucy and Panda, on Dec. 26. To protect Lucy, who was injured and could not move, Panda became defensive when they were approached by the human rescuers. Malafeev said on Facebook that Panda took care of Lucy by curling up next to her, with both of them pressing themselves against the tracks when trains passed over them. Panda reportedly never abandoned Lucy during their two days on the train tracks. The dogs were later taken to a animal protection center, where Lucy received medical attention. Thankfully, according to Malafeev, she only sustained bruises and hematomas. So it’s not clear why the dogs stayed on the tracks. The animal protection center returned the dogs to their owners after tracking them down. In a recent Facebook update, Malafeev noted that not all people would do what Panda did for Lucy. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. SpaceX Dragon 2 and Boeing CST-100 Starliner pushing 'new space race' for NASA - TomoNews

06:54
WASHINGTON — NASA says it may soon be able to launch astronauts from U.S. soil to the International Space Station. Important project milestones are coming up for NASA's two commercial crew partners: Boeing and SpaceX, according to AP. Several flight tests, including manned missions, are slated for 2018. Boeing is working on the CST-100 Starliner. The spacecraft is designed to send up to seven astronauts to the space station. Three Starliners are currently in production, with one planned to carry astronauts next year. SpaceX, which has flown cargo missions to the space station with its Dragon spacecraft, plans to use the Dragon 2 to send astronauts to space. The Dragon 2 is the latest version of SpaceX's Dragon capsule model, which can carry seven astronauts. Boeing and SpaceX must show that both of their systems are ready to start regular flights to the space station in order to meet NASA's requirements. SpaceX has its first test flight set for February, while Boeing's launch is planned for June. ------------------------------------------------------------- Go to https://www.patreon.com/tomonews and become a Patron now TomoNews is now on Patreon and we've got some cool perks for our hardcore fans. North Korea escape failure? Ghost ship with remains of 8 people found on Japanese coast - TomoNews

05:24
OGA, JAPAN — Eight bodies were found inside a ship found on a Japanese beach this week. The vessel was discovered in the Sea of Japan close to Oga on the Japanese coast. The Japanese Coast Guard believes it may have come from North Korea. A 68-year-old local resident alerted Japanese authorities to the ship on Monday morning, Kyodo News reported. She reportedly saw it drifting some 300 meters from shore. The coast guard found eight bodies inside the ship, as well as a cigarette packet bearing hangul writing. This leads police to suspect it is North Korean in origin, the Japanese Times reported, citing Kyodo News. The Japan Times reports parts of the bodies were skeletonized, suggesting that the ship was at sea for an extensive amount of time before being found. ------------------------------------------------------------- TomoNews is your best source for real news. Paper plane hits eye: Student arrested for throwing paper airplane at teacher - TomoNews

08:30
ANDREWS, SOUTH CAROLINA — A high school student in Andrews, South Carolina could face up to 30 days in jail for throwing a paper airplane that struck his science teacher in the eye. The incident occurred on January 13th, as Andrews high school science teacher Edward McIver was instructing his class. Instead of paying attention, 17-year-old David Michael Elliott made a paper airplane and threw it at McIver’s direction, South Strand News reported. Unluckily for all involved, the thing sailed directly into eye; bad timing as he was still recovering from recent ocular surgery. Elliott was called to a meeting with the vice principal and an administrator, where he confessed throwing the paper airplane, but insisted he had aimed merely for McIver’s head. But Elliott had already earned a reputation as a troublemaker and was not going to get out of this one so easily - McIver stated he intended to press charges. Elliott was charged with third-degree assault and battery and released on bond. He is due to appear in court on February 14. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ TomoNews is your best source for real news. Mexico border tunnel: Chinese and Mexican nationals arrested at smuggling tunnel - TomoNews

05:38
OTAY MESA, CALIFORNIA — U.S. Border Patrol agents discovered a cross-border smuggling tunnel near San Diego's Otay Mesa port of entry after dozens of illegal immigrants emerged from it on Saturday. The cross-border smuggling tunnel was found just north of the secondary fence in the vicinity of the Otay Mesa port of entry. The tunnel allegedly began in a building on Calle Mar Bermejo in the Garita de Otay area in Tijuana. Border agents were patrolling the area at around 1:12 a.m. when they saw a large number of men and women on the street who fled when agents approached them. According to NBC News, some of the people tried to climb back into the tunnel, leading the agents to the discovery. The tunnel is described as a crude opening in the ground with a ladder inside. Cross-border tunnels are usually used for smuggle narcotics, but no drugs have been discovered inside this tunnel. A total of 30 people have been detained. Twenty-three were Chinese nationals and seven were Mexicans. Customs and Border Patrol officials told NBC News that there has been an increase in nationals from countries other than Mexico trying to enter the U.S. illegally in the last two years. ------------------------------------------------------------- Go to https://www.patreon.com/tomonews and become a Patron now TomoNews is now on Patreon and we've got some cool perks for our hardcore fans. Robot heart: Soft robotic sleeve helps simulate heart beating to push blood through - TomoNews

04:29
CAMBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS — Harvard researchers have developed a soft robotic sleeve that can replicate normal heart muscle movements in order to support failing hearts. The human heart twists as it beats, in a motion similar to wringing and wringing of a towel. In order to mimic this rotational motion, scientists created two sets of silicone robotic sleeves. The first one expands and contracts concentrically while the second one expands and contracts helically. The device is designed to slide over the heart like a sleeve. When inflated with pressurised air, the device can help to boost the amount of blood being pumped. “Soft robotic devices are ideally suited to interact with soft tissue and give assistance that can help with augmentation of function, and potentially even healing and recovery,” Elle T. Roche, first author of the study told Harvard Magazine. According to the Harvard Magazine, about 2.8 million Americans with heart failure suffer from a condition where the heart does not fully contract. However, the robotic sleeve is still at an early stage of development and longer-term animal studies need to be conducted before it could be used in humans ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ TomoNews is your best source for real news. Salt and Ice challenge: Severe burns teach UK schoolboy valuable lesson - TomoNews

05:35
WANSEA, UNITED KINGDOM — A high school student in Wales took part in the internet craze known as the “salt and ice challenge,” and a photograph of his damaged hand is making the rounds on social media. The salt and ice challenge involves placing salt somewhere on the body, and then using an ice cube to press down on the area for as long as possible. Doing this creates a burning sensation in the area, as the salt and the ice combined become significantly colder than the ice on its own, at -18°F (-28°C). Once the participant finally gives up, initially they may feel an immediate numbing sensation in the affected area, meaning they’ve likely experienced nerve damage resulting from second- or third-degree burns, similar to frostbite. The teen’s mother published the photograph of the skin burn to warn other parents of the dangers of this salt and ice challenge. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ TomoNews is your best source for real news. Card skimming: How to spot ATM skimmers and avoid losing all your money - TomoNews

06:27
DES PLAINES — Police in Des Plaines, Illinois recently reported that a Walgreens ATM was fitted with devices meant to steal people's banking information. These skimming devices have been spotted at ATMS and even in gas pumps across the U.S. But how to avoid them? According to the FBI, ATM skimmers are card readers fitted over the machine's card slot that copy personal data from the card's magnetic strip. The user's PIN is recorded using either a pinhole camera hidden on the ATM, or captured by a fake keypad placed over the real one. PC Mag reports that the first step to spotting a skimmer is to check for signs of tampering. Be wary of differences between machines that are side by side — for example if one has a flashing indicator and the other does not. Push and pull at any protruding parts to see if they are securely attached and have only one piece. Skimmers can only read the magnetic strip if the card is inserted in a single, straight motion, so experts suggest wiggling the card as it goes in to foil the skimmer. When using credit cards, avoid transactions that necessitate swiping the magstrip. Instead, use EMV chip readers and NFC or tap to pay, which are more secure and harder to hack. If you do realize your card has been skimmed, or notice any suspicious activity on your account, alert your bank. You can still get your money back as long as the theft is reported immediately. ------------------------------------------------------------- Go to https://www.patreon.com/tomonews and become a Patron now TomoNews is now on Patreon and we've got some cool perks for our hardcore fans. EVERYWHERE — One day the world was standing still, the next day everything was spinning out of control. Fidget spinner mania has gone global, with stores rushing to get them on the shelves, and parents battling to get them in their kids’ hands. Fidget spinners have been used for years by kids with autism and ADHD to help them concentrate. But this spring, they suddenly began flying off the shelves and started taking over classrooms worldwide. The problem now is that students are concentrating so much on their spinners, they’re forgetting to pay attention in class. More and more schools, and even some churches, now have fidget spinner bans in place. Although kids aren’t the only ones addicted. Adults are now caught up in the craze too as cubicles and subways are suddenly fidget-free. How long will this latest toy craze last? What’s next for fidget spinners? ------------------------------------------------------------- Go to https://www.patreon.com/tomonews and become a Patron now TomoNews is now on Patreon and we've got some cool perks for our hardcore fans. Amazon reforestation: 73 million trees to be planted in tropical reforestation - TomoNews

03:24
BRAZIL — A project in the Amazon rainforest is using a new technique to plant trees in the largest ever tropical reforestation. Conservation International plans to restore 70,000 acres of land cleared for grazing with 73 million trees, Fast Company reported. The trees will be planted in the "arc of deforestation" that stretches across the Brazilian states of Amazonas, Acre, Pará and Rondônia, as well as the Xingu watershed. The planting method is called muvuca, which is Portuguese for a small place with many people. The muvuca method involves spreading hundreds of native tree seeds of various species over deforested land. Natural selection then allows the most suited trees to grow and thrive in a much thicker density than plant-by-plant reforestation. Plant-by-plant techniques usually have a density of 160 plants per hectare, while with muvuca, the density is 2,500 species per hectare. Amazon airship: Amazon patents unmanned airship to launch its delivery drones - TomoNews

07:21
ALEXANDRIA, VIRGINIA — Amazon has filed a patent for a self-driving airship that can store inventory and be used as a base to launch delivery drones. Amazon’s airborne fulfillment centers would hover at an altitude of 45,000 feet and be the focal point of a network of unmanned aerial vehicles. The patent for the airship was filed in 2014 but only came to light last week, when it was uncovered by Zoe Leavitt, an analyst at technology research company CB Insights, Reuters reported. The self-driving airships would carry a cargo of Amazon products and unmanned drones to deliver goods to customers. The drones could navigate horizontally to their destination and would use little to no power, according to the patent. The airships would be replenished by smaller, unmanned service vehicles, which could carry workers, drones, fuel, and inventory. One potential use of the airships could be at big events, such as concerts or football games, where they could be used to deliver souvenirs, or food. Amazon has successfully tested deliveries by drone in the UK and is waiting for federal approval to roll out the service in the United States, USA Today reported. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Help me! Man stuck inside ATM has to slip notes through receipt slot begging for rescue - TomoNews

07:57
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS — A Texas contractor found himself held captive by a cash machine and had to go old school to get out. KRIS-TV reports that the worker was changing the locks for the ATM vestibule when he was locked in because he left his swipe card in the truck. Poor fella also left his phone, so he couldn’t call for help. But, the ATM was working just fine, and what he did have was a pen and paper. He resorted to slipping notes through the receipt slot, begging people to ‘Please help. I’m stuck in here, and I don’t have my phone. Please call my boss.’ Unfortunately, everyone who got the note thought it was a bizarre joke, and the worker was stuck for two hours until someone took it seriously enough to call the cops. Even the cops didn’t think it was for real, despite hearing a little voice coming from the machine. Still, they eventually came to the man’s rescue, kicking down the door to finally get him out. Now there’s a man who’s never been so happy to get away from a cash machine. Crazy! ------------------------------------------------------------- Go to https://www.patreon.com/tomonews and become a Patron now TomoNews is now on Patreon and we've got some cool perks for our hardcore fans. DENVER — Hyperloop One announced Colorado would be one of the 10 finalists in its global competition to identify the best potential Hyperloop routes. The Colorado Department of Transportation is working with the Hyperloop company to carry out a feasibility study for the proposed route between Cheyenne, Denver and Pueblo, Techcrunch reported. The feasibility study could cost up to $1 million and take years to complete, CBS 4 reported. The proposed route would stretch 360 miles and link 10 urban centers around the state, with the potential to connect over 4,800,000 people, according to Techcrunch. A Hyperloop trip from Denver to Pueblo would take 15 minutes, while Denver to Fort Collins would only take 9 minutes. Denver to Vail would also be 9 minutes. Three other U.S. routes were chosen by Hyperloop as finalists: Chicago-Columbus-Pittsburgh, Miami-Orlando and Dallas-Laredo-Houston. MEXICO CITY — A new Hyperloop system being proposed by Mexican consortium Mexloop could reduce traveling time between Mexico City and Guadalajara to 38 minutes. Mexloop's design is one of the 10 winners of the Hyperloop One Global Challenge, Inhabitat reported. The Hyperloop would connect 42 million people in four major cities in Central Mexico: Mexico City, Querétaro, León and Guadalajara. The proposed system would stretch 330 miles, and would take about 38 minutes the travel the entire route. Stations would be located close to airports, rail freight hubs and train stations in order to maximize transportation infrastructure efficiency, according to Hyperloop One. Death by caffeine: South Carolina teen died of cardiac arrest from too much caffeine - TomoNews

07:35
CHAPIN, SOUTH CAROLINA — A South Carolina teen is dead after a deadly combo of caffeinated drinks triggered a fatal issue in his normally healthy heart. NBC reports that Davis Allen Cripe collapsed in class on April 26, and died just an hour later. The 16-year-old had multiple caffeinated drinks that day, including a large diet Mountain dew, a cafe latte, and an energy drink, all of which he drank within two hours. An autopsy revealed that he died from a caffeine-induced cardiac event, which was probable arrhythmia, otherwise known as abnormal heart rhythm. According to the Mayo Clinic, a healthy adult can safely consume as much as 400 milligrams of caffeine daily, equivalent to either four cups of coffee, 10 colas, or three to five energy drinks. But for teens aged 13 to 18, the recommended daily intake is only 100 milligrams — that’s a cup of coffee, three colas, or one energy drink. Caffeine prompts the release of the stress hormone norepinephrine, too much of which can cause rapid or irregular heart rate. Not enough blood is pumped into the body as a result, thus damaging or shutting down the brain and other organs. People who have died from caffeine overdoses also experienced seizures, with some reportedly choking on their own vomit. Caffeine does have certain good benefits, and the vast majority consume it with no negative effects. But experts warn that it should be taken in moderation, especially for kids and adolescents. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Go to https://www.patreon.com/tomonews and become a Patron now TomoNews is now on Patreon and we've got some cool perks for our hardcore fans. Voyager 1 and 2 2017: NASA's probes beyond the solar system & in the Heliosphere - TomoNews

06:23
SPACE — Forty years after their 1977 launch, NASA's Voyager-1 and Voyager-2 probes are still providing unique insights about space. NASA's Voyager-2 is currently in a region of space known as the Heliosheath. This forms part of the Heliosphere, a giant multi-tiered magnetic bubble originating from the sun in which our solar system resides. The Heliosheath is a turbulent region of space is wrought with 700 kilometer per hour solarwinds. It's past the termination shock, an outer limit of our solar system where these winds are impacted by interstellar winds. Outside the Heliosheath is the Heliopause, an area that balances both winds, sending them back down to the tail of the Heliosphere. Beyond the Heliopause is interstellar space, the space between stars. This is where Voyager-1 is currently located. Both probes are expected to run out of power by 2020. ------------------------------------------------------------- Go to https://www.patreon.com/tomonews and become a Patron now TomoNews is now on Patreon and we've got some cool perks for our hardcore fans. Hyperloop One test: World’s first full-size hyperloop test in Las Vegas - TomoNews

03:53
LAS VEGAS — Hyperloop One announced last week that it plans to execute a full test within the next three months at Apex Industrial Park in Las Vegas, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. The test run will cover 500 linear meters, said Nick Earle, the company’s senior vice president of global field operations. “It will levitate, catch the right speed and slow down,” Earle said. “Then what we’ll do, is over the next few months extend that into a few kilometers,” he said. In May 2016, the company successfully tested its levitating electromagnetic motor on an open air sled, reaching speeds of 116 mph, according to Wired. Earle also told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that the company is planning to have a full Hyperloop system ready to transport freight by 2020. The hyperloop is based on the idea by Elon Musk of levitating pods that would travel in near-vacuum tubes at speeds of over 700 mph, powered by an electric propulsion system, according to Wired. According to Musk’s calculations, a hyperloop trip from San Francisco to Los Angeles would take only 36 minutes, Wired reported. ------------------------------------------------------- For news that's fun and never boring, visit our channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/TomoNewsUS Subscribe to stay updated on all the top stories: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCt-WqkTyKK1_70U4bb4k4lQ?sub_confirmation=1 Visit our website for all the latest, uncensored videos: http://us.tomonews.net Check out our Android app: http://bit.ly/1rddhCj Check out our iOS app: http://bit.ly/1gO3z1f Stay connected with us here: Facebook http://www.facebook.com/TomoNewsUS Twitter @tomonewsus http://www.twitter.com/TomoNewsUS Google+ http://plus.google.com/+TomoNewsUS/ Instagram @tomonewsus http://instagram.com/tomonewsus -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Please watch: "Crying dog breaks the internet’s heart — but this sad dog story has a happy ending" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4prKTN9bYQc -~-~~-~~~-~~-~-

What would a US-North Korea war look like? - TomoNews

08:32
WASHINGTON, D.C. — How would the U.S. military conduct a conflict against North Korea? A Washington Examiner commentary suggests that the U.S. would likely deploy large groups of its navy and air force to Japan, Okinawa and Guam. A Stratfor analyst told Business Insider that they they'd also possibly maneuver submarines and ships closer to the North and target nuclear facilities through airstrikes. Helicopter-deployed buoys would listen for North Korean submarines, which could be destroyed by more advanced American underwater craft. Experts also reckon that the U.S. would not invade, but rather defend South Korea as the North Korean army charges the border. This scenario would also see U.S. special forces parachuting into strategic locations around Pyongyang for surgical strikes. If, in the extremely unlikely scenario — North Korea hits Guam or another U.S. territory or ally — with a nuclear strike, the U.S. has the option to respond via land, sea or air. Most agree that the resulting American retaliation would lay waste to Pyongyang and kill thousands, if not millions. ------------------------------------------------------------- Go to https://www.patreon.com/tomonews and become a Patron now TomoNews is now on Patreon and we've got some cool perks for our hardcore fans.
