Child kidnapping stopped: Hero bus driver saves three-year-old from abductor - TomoNews

01:47
MILPITAS, CALIFORNIA — A Northern California bus driver is being hailed a hero after he says he followed his parental instincts, an intuition so sharp it led him to stop a kidnapper from abducting a young boy on Friday. A 3-year-old boy was reported kidnapped at the Milpitas Public Library at around 10:40 a.m. Local police quickly responded, closing the library to incoming and outgoing traffic and sending alerts to all area bus drivers to be on the lookout. Tim Watson was on his morning shift when he caught sight of one of the alerts and about an hour later, the driver noticed a passenger in his mid-20's with a crying boy, both of whom matched descriptions mentioned in the police alert. Trusting his fatherly instincts Watson pulled the bus over and announced that someone had lost a backpack. "What I'm really trying to do is to get up without him knowing to look at the little boy," Watson told ABC 7 News. "So sure enough, I see the plaid shorts and red shoes. That's what really stuck out in my mind." The father of two noticed the boy's red shoes and quickly radioed police. "And that's when my own kids came to mind and I just broke down. I couldn't hold myself down. I just had to go inside the bus and reflect," said Watson. The parents of the child were too emotional to speak publicly, but were thankful to both the police and Watson for rescuing their little boy. Milpitas police detained Alfonso David Edington, 23, who had no connections to the family and is currently being held on charges of kidnapping. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Fight caught on tape: U-Haul mover with MMA fighting skills knocks out antagonist - TomoNews

01:21
BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS — A U-Haul mover with some serious MMA skills dropped a man, who was disrupting their work, on his head. The video was recorded in September but only recently found it's way to the web. Movers are by nature big, strong, and used to throwing things around, and boy did one shirtless numbskull learn that the hard way in Boston's Chinatown. The antagonist also got a lesson about why it's not a good idea to mess with people you don't know. The video was uploaded over the weekend, but after a skull-cracking like that, the guy may never fully understand what happened. The sleepy shirtless man finally came to and stumbled to his feet. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. 'Freeway' the cat saved by a good Samaritan on busy Phoenix highway

01:50
A selfless passerby who saved a cat trapped on a busy highway last week is being hailed as a hero. Richard Christianson posted a video of himself online saving an orange Tabby cat trapped on the I-17 in Phoenix, Arizona on April 9. Christianson tried calling the emergency services and public safety offices but they couldn't send help fast enough. So, seeing no other option, he took it upon himself to save the cat, who was bleeding from the mouth and paws after trying to escape from the highway. The cat, named Freeway, is in care at an animal hospital following surgery. Doctors expect him to make a full recovery. Once at full health Freeway will be available for adoption. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Ebola virus turns doctor's eyes green, virus lurks in eyeballs and testicles - TomoNews

01:32
The West African Ebola epidemic is almost over, after leaving 10,000 people dead between 2013 and 2015. But doctors have now discovered the virus can live on for months inside the eyeballs of those who survive it. Dr. Ian Crozier, an American, contracted Ebola while treating patients in Sierra Leone in September 2014. He was flown to Emory University Hospital in Atlanta on September 9th, and with the help of experimental drugs and round the clock care for 40 straight days, he managed to survive Ebola. Or so he thought. In December 2014, two months after beating the virus, he was back at Emory with intense pain in his left eye. Ophthalmologist Dr. Steven Yeh pierced Dr. Crozier's eye with a hair-thin needle to take a fluid sample. When they examined the fluid, they discovered that Dr. Crozier's eyeballs were swarming with the Ebola virus. His tears and outer eye were free of the virus, so he wasn't contagious, the virus was completely confined to the inside of his eyes. Dr. Crozier was re-hospitalized as he started to go blind. The virus even changed his swollen eyes from blue to green, then started to deflate them as the pressure dropped. Finally, after trying everything else, his doctors got permission from the FDA to try an experimental antiviral drug. It took months, but Dr. Crozier's vision eventually returned. He and the doctors at Emory now hope his experience can help the tens of thousands of Ebola survivors in West Africa through their recovery as well. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Buck rescue: family saves deer stuck on frozen lake in Indiana

02:31
Chase Lankford and his companions were on their way to visit family in Indiana. That’s when the trio discovered what they initially thought was a deer decoy sitting on a frozen lake. But upon closer inspection, they realized it was an actual deer, unable to get up and walk on the ice to safety. Lankford and company then set out to rescue the deer. The video shows the buck being pulled from the ice. At one point, the buck walks on his hind legs as his human rescuer holds the fore legs. The buck seemed appreciative following the rescue. Lankford reports the family returned the following day to check on the deer, following his tracks in the snow for 30 minutes. Alas, they never saw him again. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Pinworms in your butt: 7YO infected with millions of worms from biting her nails

01:25
You know when your mom and dad tell you to go wash your hands before eating, but you don’t really think your hands are all that dirty? Think again. You could have tiny nearly invisible pinworm eggs under your fingernails. Pinworms are tiny worms that commonly infect the intestines, particularly of children. Pinworms are really small, about as long as a staple. They infect their host by getting in through the mouth, then the eggs pass through the digestive tract and hatch in the small intestine. The baby worm then grows up and moves out into the large intestine. The females will move to the very end of the large intestine and come out of the body at night to lay their eggs around the host’s anus. A 7 year old girl living in Fujian had a bad habit of nail biting and began complaining to her mother that her bottom itched. The mother used a flashlight to examine her daughter’s anus and was shocked to see something wriggling around along the edges. Ah, the joys of parenthood! Anyway, she immediately took her daughter to the hospital. The doctor explained that since the pinworms came out late at night to lay their eggs around the girl’s anus she would often scratch her anus, then bite her nails, thus feeding the pinworms back into her system. The girl had quite a colony of wriggling pinworms living inside her by the time her mother brought her to hospital. The doctor gave her girl some de-worming medication and she should be worm free within 2 weeks. Maybe now she’ll wash her hands when her parents tell her to. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Russia superhighway: NYC to London by car a reality or pipedream?

01:28
Driving from London to New York City would be possible if Russia succeeds in building a superhighway spanning across the country with links to western Europe and Asia. During a March meeting, head of the Russian Railways Vladimir Yakunin unveiled an ambitious plan called the Trans-Eurasian Belt Development, which entails constructing a superhighway and an accompanying high-speed railway. If the plan is realised, motorists will be able to drive from London to New York. Russia hopes the development will spur the economies of remote cities and towns. The Trans-Siberian Railway is about 9,000 kilometres long. According to CNN, a road trip from London to New York would cover about 20,777 kilometers. Yakunin said other infrastructure such as oil pipelines, power plants and water supply facilities will be built alongside the highway and high-speed railway. The mega highway system will face a multitude of difficulties, one of them being the connection to Alaska across the Bering Strait. Either a long bridge or a undersea tunnel would be needed. Money is likely to be another challenge. Russian Railways said the construction cost would amount to trillions of dollars. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. New powerful antibiotic Teixobactin discovered

01:17
U.S. scientists have discovered a new class of antibiotic that can kill many kinds of drug-resistant pathogens, according to a report published Wednesday in the journal Nature. Many pathogens have evolved to resist antibiotics developed from bacteria that can be grown in labs. So the scientists developed the new drug, known as Teixobactin, by screening 10,000 bacterial strains from soil that cannot be cultured in labs. To grow germs from soil bacteria, scientists filled a device containing several hundred dotted chambers with cells from different bacterium. The device, which they call the iChip, was then placed in soil to allow the bacteria to grow. Once the bacteria were cultivated, they were placed in a petri dish and covered by a target bacteria, called Staph. Empty zones in the petri dish signalled that the bacteria below had released an antibiotic that inhibited the growth of the target Staph bacteria. The newly discovered antibiotic, Teixobactin, kills a class of bacteria called gram-positive bacteria by binding to the building blocks they use to construct their cell walls and causing the cell walls to break down. It is especially effective against bacteria that cause certain types of tuberculosis and pneumonia, and Staphylococcus aureus, which causes MRSA. Teixobactin, however, does not work against gram-negative bacteria, including bacteria that cause cholera and gonorrhea. Kim Lewis, a professor at Northeastern University in Boston and lead author of the study, told the Wall Street Journal that there could be human trials of Teixobactin in two years. He said the trials could take two to three years. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Soldier jumps on grenade: Hero Marine who saved squad in Iraq denied Medal of Honor - TomoNews

01:38
SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA — After years of fighting for a Medal of Honor nomination, the family of a heroic Marine sergeant has given up and instead accepted a Navy Cross on his behalf. Sgt. Rafael Peralta died in Iraq after absorbing the blow of a grenade that would likely have killed members of his team. He was just 25. Former Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel rejected the Medal of Honor bid because the details of Peralta’s death are still under dispute. On the morning of November 15th 2004, Peralta’s team was clearing houses in Fallujah. Inside the fourth house, the team threw open a door to find several insurgents armed with AK-47s. The Marines exchanged fire with the men and killed one of the insurgents. During the fire exchange, a bullet struck Rafael, severely injuring him. Reports indicate Peralta was struck by a bullet from his own team as he tried to move out of the line of fire. As the remaining insurgents retreated, a grenade landed next to Peralta. Initial reports indicated he pulled the grenade under his body in an effort to shield his men from the explosion. But later reports contradicted that story. “I can remember people saying it would be the right thing to do, to say that he did more than he did,” said Reggie Brown, who was inside the house with Peralta, during a 2014 interview with the Washington Post. “I disagree with everything my fellow Marines proclaim to have seen,” Brown said. Other Marines have disputed Brown’s statement. Regardless, Peralta’s body did absorb the blow of the grenade, which normally has a 5-meter killing radius. On Monday morning, Peralta’s mother accepted the Navy Cross, which is the second highest award a Marine can receive. Peralta’s brother spoke at the ceremony and read the last letter he received from the fallen hero. In it, Peralta told his little brother to “just remember that I already lived my life to the fullest.” Peralta was a Mexican immigrant, who reportedly enlisted in the military the same day he received his green card. “His legacy will carry on as long as the Marine Corps stays alive,” Rick Peralta said during the ceremony. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Face transplant recipient Richard Norris meets donor family that gave him a new life - TomoNews

01:25
BALTIMORE, MARYLAND — In 2012, Rebekah Aversano's family decided to donate her 21-year-old brother Josh's face for transplant after he was killed in a car accident. Josh Aversano's face including his jawbones, teeth, tongue, muscles, and nerves were transplanted to Richard Norris. In 1997 Richard Norris accidentally shot himself in the face with a shotgun. The 2012 surgery involved 150 doctors and nurses and took 36 hours. In a taped segment scheduled to air on 60 Minutes in Australia, Rebekah Aversano will see Norris with the face of her dead brother for the first time. Before the transplant, Norris had undergone more than 30 operations to try and correct the damage and restore his features. Norris was only 22 when his face 'exploded' after a fight with his mother. He lived his life as a recluse facing cruel comments from strangers when he would muster up the courage to go outside. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. NASA proposes submarine mission to Saturn’s moon Titan

01:24
NASA is planning to send a submarine to Saturn’s largest moon by 2040 to study Titan’s hydrocarbon oceans. Titan is the only celestial body in the solar system other than Earth that is known to host liquid lakes and seas on its surface. Titan’s atmosphere is a mix of methane, nitrogen, and argon, and its surface has liquid methane oceans and lakes. Atmospheric pressure is 50 percent higher than Earth at sea level. The submarine will be carried to Titan by a spacecraft similar to the X-37 Orbital Test Vehicle. The spacecraft would decelerate on contact with Titan’s dense atmosphere and glide into Titan’s Kraken Mare, where the sub would be ejected from the spacecraft. The submarine’s radiothermal Sterling generator can propel the craft at about 4 kmph and generates heat to keep the craft from freezing in the liquid methane sea. The submarine will measure the alien sea’s chemistry, currents and tides, as well as hunt for evidence of organic life. At surface level the craft is able to transmit data directly back to Earth via its antenna. NASA hopes that by studying Titan’s Kraken Mare, the mission could reveal whether environmental conditions hospitable to life may be found on planets and moons outside our solar system. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Pranks gone wrong: Sequoyah seniors trash school, miss graduation - TomoNews

01:36
A group of Tennessee high school seniors turned a pre-graduation "prank" into wanton destruction worthy of a Viking raid. Seniors at Tennessee's Sequoyah High School evidently have some tradition of pre-graduation pranking, and this year's pranks started out harmlessly enough, with the majority of the damage involving glitter and toilet paper. But things escalated fast. Out of control student vandals peed on the walls, left dead animals in the hallways, dropped goldfish into toilets, and pretty much ransacked the entire building -- inside and out. Students set booby-traps over doorways, put marbles and baby oil on the ground so people would slip, and three teacher later did just that. The school principal allegedly gave the vandals permission to go on the prank raid and an off-duty cop who worked as a security officer at the school, allegedly assisted the vandals by carrying their supplies into the school for them. Following the fracas, about 100 seniors were banned from attending their graduation ceremony and Principal Gary Cole was suspended. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Kidnapping escape: boy uses tricks he learned from crime movies in Sichuan, China - TomoNews

01:29
DEYANG, CHINA — A teenage boy who was kidnapped on his way to school in China's Sichuan province on September 24 was able to escape using tactics he learned by watching crime movies, the People's Daily Online reported. The 13-year-old was thrown in the back of a van and then was bound and gagged in an abandoned building located in a remote village. Elite Readers reported that the kidnapper called his parents and had the teen tell them that he had been kidnapped and to not contact the police, before demanding the equivalent of around $20,462 in ransom money. When he thought his captor had left, the boy untied himself and tried to flee, but the kidnapper was just outside of the building and caught him. The teen was tied up tighter, but when the kidnapper had left a second time, the boy shouted to see if he was still there, and then fled the abandoned building while still tied up. The boy made it to a nearby residential area, where he was rescued by residents who called the police. The kidnapper was arrested at a cybercafe later that day. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Plane almost runs out of fuel: Allegiant Air flight lands with just minutes of fuel left - TomoNews

01:34
FARGO, NORTH DAKOTA — Allegiant Air flight 426 landed on July 23 at Hector international Airport in Fargo North Dakota with only a few minutes of fuel left in its tanks. A recording of the conversation between the pilot and airport control was posted on the aviation website LiveATC.net, in which the pilot can be heard speaking with air traffic control operators who inform him the airport is closed as U.S. Navy Blue Angels are there practicing for an upcoming air show. The pilot then informs the tower that the plane is on "Bingo fuel," reportedly aviation terminology for the minimum amount of fuel required to complete a safe landing. The plane had been delayed in Las Vegas for an hour and therefore missed its original landing window at Hector international Airport. However, it's unknown why the plane was not carrying a mandatory 45 minute fuel reserve nor is it clear how the airline and the pilots that day were uninformed of the airport's closure. Eventually, reports say, the pilot was told he would need to declare a mid-air emergency in order to be permitted to land at the closed airport. After doing just that, the airliner landed shortly after 1 p.m. local time. None of the 144 passengers and six crew were injured. The airline, the airport and the US Federal Aviation Administration have begun an investigation into what could've been a disastrous incident. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Renewable energy: CETO system converts sea waves into zero-emission electricity

01:21
An Australian company has been working on a system that uses underwater buoys to convert sea waves into zero-emission energy and desalinated water. Australian firm Carnegie Wave Energy has been developing a system called CETO, which aims to utilise sea waves to generate power. Steel-made buoys that can currently generate 240 kilowatts are the main part of the system. At the Australian naval base HMAS Stirling, three buoys are placed 11 kilometres apart. The buoys are less susceptible to extreme weather damage, while underwater waves are sufficient to generate power. The buoys' pumps drive the high pressure water to an onshore power plant via a subsea pipe. The high pressure water spins the turbines, which then generate zero-carbon electricity. The CETO system can be used to power a desalination plant as well. High pressure water can be utilised to remove salt from seawater through a permeable membrane in a process called reverse osmosis. The Australian company believes that the cost of electricity generated by the CETO system will be competitive with diesel if it is deployed at a large scale. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Free-range kids: CPS takes children away from couple again in example of parenting police state

01:39
A family in Silver Spring, Maryland could face charges for child neglect for the second time in a matter of months. Danielle and Sasha Meitiv found themselves in the national spotlight in January, after neighbors complained they were letting their children roam the neighborhood unattended. The Meitivs -- who are both scientists -- insisted they were right to allow their children, aged 10 and 6, to play in the park or walk home from school without adult supervision. They were in the process of appealing Child Protective Service's child neglect charge. Then it happened again. On Sunday, Rafi Meitiv and his younger sister Dvora were just a few blocks from home when a police officer pulled up. "The policeman said 'we'll give you a ride home' when we were like two blocks away," Rafi told a Fox 5 reporter. "So we got into the car and then about two and a half hours later -- after sitting in the car for two and a half hours -- he said, 'okay I'll bring you home,'" Rafi said. But the officer took the two children to CPS without notifying Danielle and Sasha. The parents finally received a call around 8 p.m., but were not permitted to see their children for several more hours. "It's 10:30 at night," Danielle told reporters once CPS handed the children over. "They've been missing since 6 o'clock." Danielle said the kids normally carry "free range" badges so neighbors know they're not lost, but the children had left them behind that day. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Cure for Alzheimer's? Ultrasound shows potential in clearing toxic brain plaques

01:32
Australian researchers have found that mice suffering from Alzheimer's performed much better in behaviour tests after receiving ultrasound treatment, a discovery that could give hope in the battle to find a cure for humans suffering from the degenerative illness. Neurotransmitter activities are disrupted in the brain of Alzheimer's patients. Beta amyloids, a natural protein, accumulated in a patient's brain, leading to the formation of plaques that can damage nerve cells. The cerebral cortex of Alzheimer's patients also shrink as symptoms progress. Scientists at the University of Queensland in Australia conducted a series of tests in which they injected a solution containing tiny gas bubbles in mice. Ultrasound treatment helps the gas bubbles to expand. The bubbles then temporarily open a gap in the blood-brain barrier, allowing the entrance of antibodies into the brain. The antibodies remove toxic beta amyloids thus reducing the size of plaques in the patient's brain. Researchers plan to carry out the same tests in larger animals such as sheep. Tests in humans will be more difficult because of the harder human skull, which ultrasonic waves cannot easily penetrate. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Revenge against rapist: boyfriend brutally beats uncle who allegedly raped his girlfriend on NYE

01:35
A South Carolina man had the living daylights beaten out of him after allegedly raping his nephew's girlfriend on New Year's Eve. William L. Mattson, 52, was arrested by Conway police on charges of criminal sexual conduct in the first degree for allegedly raping his nephew’s girlfriend. A police report shows that Mattson’s nephew, 27, had brought his girlfriend, 21, to his father’s house after the two had attended a New Year’s Eve party. The nephew left and he told police he returned to hear strange noises from outside the door of the room he shares with his girlfriend. He told officers he broke the door down and found his Uncle Mattson on top of his girlfriend trying to sexually assault her. The nephew claims he next dragged his uncle from out of the room and beat him repeatedly. Mattson told police his nephew’s girlfriend was drinking with him when they started to hug and kiss each other in the living room. Mattson claimed the girl consensually went upstairs with him and she got naked under a blanket, but that he was fully clothed. When his nephew caught them he was so upset that he repeatedly struck him. The victim denied that the incident was consensual. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Bizarre death: Billionaire heir Andrew Getty dies from 'rectal injury', under strange circumstances

01:18
An heir to the Getty oil fortune died in his Los Angeles home Tuesday, according to Los Angeles police and a family statement. Police found Andrew Getty, 47, in his bathroom. He was reportedly naked from the waist down and bleeding from a traumatic rectal injury. Police also recovered prescription pills at the home. Getty had reportedly been feeling unwell in recent months. "This does not appear immediately to be a criminal act," said LAPD Cmdr. Andrew Smith, noting that it is still "very, very early in the investigation." An ex-girlfriend whom Getty had dated for four years may have made the call to police, according to local reports. Getty reportedly filed a restraining order against the ex-girlfriend, Lanessa De Jonge, three weeks ago. Prior to Getty's death, cops had to visit the mansion 31 times. During one visit, De Jange reportedly attacked an officer. The Getty family has received media attention for its misfortunes over the past several decades. In 1973, Italians kidnapped Getty's cousin and cut off his ear in demand for a hefty ransom. In 1999, Andrew Getty's father got caught hiding a secret second family in Los Angeles. Ann and Gordon Getty released a statement confirming their son's death Tuesday, asking for privacy during an "extremely difficult time." ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Giant black hole 12 billion times bigger than the sun is baffling scientists

01:24
The discovery of a giant black hole which is growing faster than usual challenges our current theories of black hole expansion. Led by Xue-Bing Wu of China's Peking University, a team of scientists detected a giant black hole they have named SDSS J010013.021280225.8. Though it is not the biggest black hole ever found, it is the biggest one detected in terms of luminosity: 40,000 times more bright than our solar system, the Milky Way, said Avi Loeb, Chair of the Department of Astronomy of Harvard University in an interview with National Geographic. He was not involved in this research. Apart from its size, what is astonishing is that it was formed only 875 million years after the big bang—a relatively short period for a black hole to grow to such a massive size. Scientists are are not certain what accounts for the black hole's rapid development, but one of the possibilities is that two black holes collided when the universe was very young. A black hole starts to form when the core of a dying star loses nuclear fuel, allowing gravity to overcome outward pressure. The core explodes and the star becomes a supernova. The black hole has such a powerful gravitational pull that nothing, including light, can escape. Yet, scientists can detect the existence of black holes from their quasars, a glow of radiating gas and matter. The black hole also absorbs other stars in its vicinity. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Water on Mars: New NASA study suggests Red Planet once had more water than Earth’s Arctic Ocean

01:42
New research by NASA indicates a primitive ocean on Mars once held more water than the Earth’s Arctic Ocean. Some 4.3 billion years ago, Mars was a far wetter place with five million cubic miles (20 million cubic kilometers ) of water, according to a team of scientists. The researchers believe that this water was not spread evenly across the planet, but rather, collected in the northern hemisphere's Northern Plains. Mars ancient ocean likely covered 19 percent of its surface and in some places went down up to a mile deep. This body of water would have been larger than the Earth's Arctic Ocean, covering a relative area comparable to the Atlantic Ocean, which occupies 17 percent of the Earth’s surface. The Red Planet is believed to have had a volume of water 6.5 times greater than what is in the ice caps today, indicating a massive loss of water into space. Researchers discovered one of the major differences between ancient and modern Mars to be their respective water molecules. Water, ordinarily H2O, has another variant, HDO, which consists of a hydrogen atom, an oxygen atom, and a deuterium atom, which replaces the second hydrogen atom. Deuterium is a heavy isotope of hydrogen, that has a neutron in its nucleus. By comparing the ratio of HDO to H20 in water found on Mars today, water that was trapped in a Mars meteorite dating back some 4.5 billion years, scientists were able to determine how much water had escaped into space. This measurement process took nearly six years to map out. As since these heavier water molecules do not escape from the atmosphere as easily as ordinary water molecules, the planet has less light water compared to heavy water. Here on Earth, the HDO/H20 ratio is 1:3,200, but on Mars it is 1:400. This ratio indicates that Mars has lost 87 percent of its water. This not only indicates that Mars once had more water, but was wetter for a longer time. "With Mars losing that much water, the planet was very likely wet for a longer period of time than was previously thought,” said Senior Goddard scientist Michael Mumma, according to a NASA press release. “Suggesting it might have been habitable for longer.” ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Exploding hoverboard burns family's house down in Louisiana - TomoNews

01:20
LAFITTE, LOUISIANA — A hoverboard that was plugged in to charge the battery exploded and set fire to a family's house in Lafitte, Louisiana, WGNO reported. On November 20, Hayden Horne, 12, opened his birthday present and was delighted to try out his new hoverboard that his mother, Jessica Horne, bought on Amazon from a company called Fit Turbo. He rode it around, but when it ran out of battery power the next day, he plugged it in using the charger that came with it. His mother walked by the boy's room only to see the hoverboard spark and catch fire in seconds. According to the GoFundMe page Horne started to help out with expenses related to the fire, she wrote that within minutes the whole room was on fire. Horne also wrote about the incident on Facebook, saying the firefighters responded to the blaze in minutes and rescued her dog, which was trapped inside. The use of hoverboards in public has been banned in New York City and in London. According to a CNN report, nearly 90 percent of the hoverboards imported into Britain have been recalled because of the risk of explosion or electrocution. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Singapore's Math Olympiad problem confuses everyone

01:58
A logical reasoning question for 14-year-olds in the Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad has gone viral after a TV presenter posted it on Facebook, leaving many people across the globe stumped. The mind-boggling question states that two boys, Albert and Bernard, became friends with a girl called Cheryl and wanted to know her birthday. Cheryl gave them ten possible dates, including May 15, May 16, May 19, June 17, June 18, July 14, July 16, August 14, August 15 and August 17. Then, she told Albert and Bernard the month and day of her birthday respectively. The question continues and states that Albert is not sure about her birthday yet but certain that Bernard, who was told the day, does not know either. From this, it is possible to eliminate the two unique dates, May 19 and June 18. If Cheryl had told Albert her birthday was in May or June then these two dates would still be valid. But Albert knows that Bernard does not know her birthday so this means she must have told Albert that the month is either July or August. Bernard then says he has deducted the answer from the five remaining dates. It is impossible that the day of Cheryl’s birthday is 14 because if this was the case, there would be two possible dates, July 14 and August 14, and Bernard would not be able to ascertain the answer. So, only three possible dates, July 16, August 15 and August 16 are left. Albert also obtains the answer after these clues. Since he only knows the month of Cheryl’s birthday, the answer must be July 16. If Cheryl told Albert she was born in August, Albert could not have deducted the answer because there would still be two possible dates. Henry Ong, executive director of the Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad, said the birthday question is a difficult one that aims to sift out the most intelligent students. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. AirAsia flight QZ8501: underwater listening devices deployed to find black boxes

01:19
Indonesian authorities said international experts equipped with underwater listening devices joined search teams on Friday to search for the flight recorders from the missing AirAsia flight QZ8501. Friday’s search for the missing was focused on an area spanning 1,575 nautical square miles of the Java Sea near Borneo. A total of 29 ships and 17 aircraft have been deployed in the operation, the Telegraph reported. According to Singapore Today, two ships carrying underwater locator beacon detectors, along with French, Singaporean and Indonesian experts, left the port of Pangkalan Bun on Friday. The detectors have hydrophones that can pick up acoustic signals from underwater locator beacons on the plane’s flight data recorders. Bad weather continued to hamper the search operations on Friday. Authorities told Australia's ABC network it could take a week to find the black boxes. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. NASA Dawn mission reaches Ceres on Friday to explore mysterious dwarf planet

01:29
NASA’s Dawn spacecraft will reach dwarf planet Ceres on Friday, marking the end of its eight-year journey. The spacecraft’s mission is to study both Vesta, one of the largest asteroid in our solar system, and Ceres, an icy dwarf planet. The Dawn spacecraft will slowly approach Ceres later this week after traveling two and a half years from Vesta. The spacecraft will travel alongside Ceres at a pace that will allow Ceres’ gravity to eventually take hold of the spacecraft and bring the spacecraft into orbit alongside it. Ceres is a little-understood dwarf planet located in the asteroid belt between Jupiter and Mars. About 590 miles wide, the planet is believed to have a large layer of water underneath its icy mantle and above its rocky core. Research also suggests that Ceres may have a layer of heated, muddy water below its icy surface. As the spacecraft begins to approach Ceres, NASA scientists are already surprised by what they see. Several days ago, the Dawn spacecraft’s camera captured two bright, white spots on the dwarf planet’s surface. There are several theories as to what the white spots may be. Some scientists suggest that the planet may have bumped into objects in the asteroid belt, exposing a layer of ice that reflects light. Another theory is that the white spots are caused by cryovolcanic eruptions that spew ice onto the surface. The third, but least likely, possibility that’s been mentioned is that the white spots are caused by magnesium silicates on the surface. Discoveries made on the Dawn mission will help NASA scientists better understand the planet-formation process. If the Dawn spacecraft is able to complete this final leg of its journey, then the probe will be the first spacecraft to orbit two celestial objects beyond the moon. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Aaron Hernandez trial: Former New England Patriots tight end found guilty in murder of Odin Lloyd

01:45
Former Patriots star Aaron Hernandez is facing life in prison after a jury found him guilty of murder and five weapons charges, according to Reuters. The jury heard from 135 witnesses and deliberated for more than 25 hours before declaring Hernandez guilty of first-degree murder in the death of Odin Lloyd. Lloyd was a semi-professional football player and was dating the sister of Hernandez’s fiancee at the time of the murder. In the early morning hours of a June day in 2013, Hernandez picked up Lloyd from his home in Massachusetts. The two men who were with Hernandez -- Carlos Ortiz and Ernest Wallace -- will stand trial at a later date. With Lloyd in the car, Hernandez reportedly confronted him about spending time with people Hernandez didn't like. Hours later, a jogger discovered Lloyd’s body, peppered with gunshot wounds, at an industrial park about a mile from Hernandez’s home. Police found additional evidence, including 5 shell casings and an unlit joint containing DNA that matched Lloyd’s and Hernandez’s. Prosecutors also brought before the jury cellphone records, fingerprint evidence and surveillance footage from outside Hernandez’s home. In addition to Lloyd’s murder, Hernandez also faces charges of killing Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado in a drive-by shooting in 2012. Jury members for Lloyd’s case told reporters that they didn’t even know about the double homicide until after Wednesday’s verdict. Hernandez signed a $40 million contract with the Patriots less than three years ago. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Bears playing on hammock videoed in New Jersey: Bear cubs and mother mess around - TomoNews

02:04
WASHINGTON, NEW JERSEY — This video of a family of black bears fooling around on a New Jersey family's backyard hammock sure is something. Unaware of the humans (who have no natural defences) looking on through a yard-facing window, the menacing predators climb, tumble and roughhouse over the thing for several minutes as Carol Harrington films. A dog growls. It is a good video. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Car accident: SUV plummets 60 feet after going over New Jersey I-80 bridge, women survive

01:22
Elizabeth Wolthoff and Rebecca Winslow are lucky to be alive after their SUV plummeted 60 feet from the I-80 bridge in Hackensack, New Jersey. Wolthoff was driving her RAV4 to work Friday morning with Winslow riding shotgun. While driving along I-80, near the Hackensack River, they were cut off by a tractor-trailer. Walthoff hit the brakes. Due to the icy road and glaring sun, Walthoff lost control of the vehicle. The SUV swerved sideways and struck a snowbank, causing it to lurch over the concrete barrier 60 feet above the ground. A tree helped to break the fall. They also crushed a fence before landing on solid ground—tires down. Firefighters arrived and spoke with the lucky women before snapping a few pictures and getting on with the rescue. They used the jaws of life to open the RAV4 up like a can of tuna, and rushed the pair to a hospital. Winslow suffered a minor back injury. Walthoff underwent surgery for a fractured back. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Police Officer Shot: Georgia cop shot in gunfight with gunrunners, survives - TomoNews

01:37
ATLANTA — An attempt to arrest two suspected gun runners in Dekalb County, Georgia, on Friday, turned into an intense shootout in which a 20-year veteran officer was shot. Officer Marco Vizcarrando is in stable condition and has been allowed to return home after being shot through the shoulder by Rome Crow, 21, and Isiah McCray, 24, who were in a vehicle which police were monitoring in connection with a gun running investigation. When a patrol car attempted to pull over Crow and McCray, they fled, but immediately crashed into a gas station sign. The men then tried to run through the gas station and began shooting at the pursuing officer on foot. Fortunately, backup was close at hand and 12 patrol cars were on the scene in no time. Officer Vizcarrando was one of the responding officers who arrived after the shooting began, but for all the bullets fired on both sides, he was one hit. He sustained a bullet through the shoulder. The suspects then split up, but Crow was arrested on the spot. McCray made it into the woods but was apprehended with the help of a K-9 unit. Meanwhile, fearing officer Vizcarrando's condition could get worse, a police helicopter was used to transport him to hospital, instead of waiting for an air ambulance to arrive. Luckily, officer Vizcarrando's wound was a through-and-through, and doctors allowed him to go home the same night. Rome Crow and Isiah McCray are charged with aggrevated assault on a police officer, and felony obstruction. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Seed bomb drones: UK-based start-up to plant one billion trees in one year using drones

01:09
Oxford-based start-up Biocarbon Engineering is planning to fight industrial deforestation by planting 1 billion trees a year using drones. Currently, 26 billions trees are cut down every year, while only 15 billions are replanted. The drones used by Biocarbon Engineering could solve the problem by making tree planting faster and cheaper. In a video made by the company, Biocarbon Engineering explains that the drones would first fly above a selected area, map its level of deforestation and report back its potential for reforestation. Then, automated planting drones carrying seed pods would fly one to two metres above the ground, following a pre-determined planting pattern, and fire germinated seeds into the soil. A small pressurized canister would provide the necessary propulsive force for the seed pods to easily penetrate the soil surface. The seed pods, filled with nutritious hydrogel to reduce the force of the seed’s impact with the soil, would then break open upon impact and allow the germinated seeds to grow. According to the Independent, one drone is able to plant 10 seeds per minute. With two operators controlling multiple drones, 36,000 trees could be planted in a single day. Biocarbon Engineering hopes to have the system fully working by the end of the summer. According to the Independent, the drone system is not as good as hand-sowing, but it’s much quicker and less expensive than traditional planting systems. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. FDA approves device that can stop gunshot wound bleeding in 15 seconds - TomoNews

01:09
SILVER SPRING, MARYLAND — The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved the civilian use of the XSTAT Rapid Hemostasis System, which can stop the bleeding from an open gunshot wound in 15 seconds. The device had already been in use by the military after being approved for use in the battlefield in 2014. William Maisel, M.D., M.P.H., acting director of the Office of Device Evaluation in the FDA's Center for Devices and Radiological Health said: "It is exciting to see this technology transition to help civilian first responders control some severe, life-threatening bleeding while on the trauma scene." The XSTAT 30 is for use with patients who have life-threatening hemorrhagic shock, when emergency medical care cannot be found in minutes. The treatment uses a syringe-style applicator to puts tablet-sized cellulose sponges into the wound to absorb blood and stop the bleeding. Each XSTAT 30 syringe has 92 sponges that can absorb a pint of blood. The dressing is effective for up to four hours, while the patient seeks further medical attention. Up to three applicators can be used on an individual patient. The sponges have radioplaque markers so an X-ray can pick up any sponges to help in the process of extraction. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Supermoon lunar eclipse: September 27 to see rare blood supermoon and lunar eclipse - TomoNews

02:03
WASHINGTON D.C. — A supermoon lunar eclipse, a phenomenon which last occurred more than three decades ago, will be visible to people in the Americas on September 27 and visible to those in Western Europe and parts of Africa early on September 28. A lunar eclipse occurs when the sun, Earth and moon align to form an exact or near-exact straight line, with the Earth in the middle. The technical term for this alignment is "syzygy", which in Greek means being paired together. While in syzygy, the Earth casts its shadow on the moon's surface. The Earth's shadow is made of an outer part called the Penumbra, a darker, central part called the Umbra, and the Antumbra, an lighter area beyond the Umbra. On September 27, the lunar eclipse will be total, meaning the moon will completely enter the Umbra for one hour and 12 minutes. The moon will not turn completely dark, however. Rather, it will turn reddish, as if hit by sunlight bent by the Earth's atmosphere, a phenomenon known as a blood moon. At the same time, another phenomenon known as a perigee supermoon will also occur. At 252,000 miles from Earth, the moon will be at its apogee, its furthest point from Earth. At its perigee, its closest point to our planet, it is about 226,000 miles away. On September 27, the moon will be at perigee and will appear to be about 14 percent larger and 30 percent brighter than an apogee full moon. This rare supermoon total lunar eclipse, which has occurred only five times since 1900, will be 100 percent visible from start to end in some parts of North America, in all of South America, in Western Europe and western Africa. The event will not be visible in East Asia. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Badass navy SEAL took 27 bullets and still walked to the medevac chopper, now he’s doing an Ironman

01:55
Former Navy SEAL Mike Day is not your ordinary veteran. Twenty-year SEAL veteran Day was quite literally shot to pieces during his final tour of Iraq, but has made a remarkable recovery. And he is now taking part in an Ironman to help raise funds for the people who helped him recover from his incredible ordeal. It all happened back in 2007 when Day was acting as point man in a raid on a property in Fallujah. First into the room, Day was confronted by four enemy fighters, who duly opened fire. His rifle shot from his hand, Day pulled out his handgun and started shooting, killing one fighter and hitting another who was carrying a grenade, which then exploded less than 10 feet from him. A still dazed Day then woke up, and proceeded to gun down the remaining two enemy combatants. And if that wasn’t enough, Day then got to his feet and walked to the medevac helicopter, even though he had been shot 16 times. Day was hit a total of 27 times. Eleven of the shots hitting his body armor and another 16 his body. He was hit in the stomach, shoulder, buttocks, scrotum and hand. Day spent sixteen days in hospital recovering, during which time he lost 55 pounds. It’s been a long road to recovery for him, but now he’s aiming to give back by raising funds for Carrick Brain Centers, an organization that helps vets suffering from PTSD. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Police shoot unarmed man: Cop charged for homicide for shooting man in the back

01:31
Lisa Mearkle, a 14-year veteran police officer in Hummelstown, Pennsylvania, was charged with criminal homicide on Tuesday for shooting an unarmed man. Police investigators found that Mearkle used force without legal justification. While conducting a traffic patrol around 4 p.m. on February 2, Mearkle, 36, noticed David Kassick’s sedan had an expired inspection sticker from December 2014. She maneuvered her vehicle and attempted to pull the 59-year-old Kassick over. Instead of stopping, Kassick ignored her flashing lights and drove away. Mearkle gave chase as Kassick drove to Grandview Road and pulled into a driveway before fleeing to the house’s backyard on foot. Mearkle followed him to an embankment at the side of the house, where she tasered him. Kassick fell to the snowy ground with his back facing the officer as she tasered him at least a second time. Mearkle wasn’t able to see Kassick’s left hand and ordered him to put his hands up. With his left hand, Kassick tried to pull out the two taser probes in his back. Mearkle, still holding the taser in her left hand, took out her police-issued pistol with her right hand and shot Kassick twice in the back. Kassick was pronounced dead at the scene after additional officers arrived. Kassick had a long history of alcohol abuse, and a syringe was found at the scene. He had alcohol and drugs in his system at the time of his death. Mearkle was granted a $250,000 bail on Tuesday and will wear an electronic monitoring device until her preliminary hearing on April 20. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. NASA Dawn mission to Ceres set to unlock secrets of mysterious ‘dwarf planet’

01:19
NASA’s Dawn spacecraft is currently on its way to the asteroid belt where it will rendezvous Ceres, its largest celestial body. Ceres, also classified as a dwarf planet, has an average diameter of about 950 km (590 miles) making it comparable in scale to the U.S. state of Texas. Dawn captured the first image of Ceres on December 1. At just 9 pixels in width, the tiny photo was taken at a distance of about 1.2 million kilometers (740,000 miles), roughly three times the distance between Earth and the moon. On January 13 Dawn observed the object for one hour, capturing images of roughly half its surface area, including an intriguing white spot. The spacecraft is expected to deliver much higher resolution images as it flies ever closer to Ceres. The $466 million Dawn mission launched by NASA in September 2007 aims to study not only the dwarf planet, but also protoplanet Vesta. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Backpackers abused in Australia: Working holiday visas exploited by Aussie employers - TomoNews

01:22
After years of complaints Australia’s government has finally admitted after an investigation that farms and factories have been exploiting unskilled workers with 417 working holiday visas. The 417 working holiday visa has attracted more than a quarter million visitors since it began, and was intended as a cultural exchange program for backpackers and international students looking to travel to Australia or extend their visas. The working holiday visa allows individuals to stay for up to 6 months and seek employment in unskilled or low-skilled jobs such as fruit picking or meat packaging. Unfortunately, unscrupulous corporations are taking advantage of migrant workers. Migrant workers are often paid less than minimum wage, women are often sexually harassed or assaulted, and some are solicited for sex in order to obtain a visa extension. Migrant workers are often treated differently from their Australian passport holding co-workers. Some companies provide Australian employees overnight sleeping quarters but migrant workers are often only given a pallet on the floor in a main room. For those migrant workers who dare to complain, they’re quickly fired and their visas revoked. The 417 visa system has been severely corrupted and needs a complete overhaul. Public assault: Angry customer takes anger out on bus driver, driver retaliates - TomoNews

01:25
YELIU, TAIWAN - One customer on board a long distance bus ride in Taiwan lost it and took his anger out on the bus driver. That was a mistake. The customer, Mr. Yang, age 25, was complaining loudly that he was feeling motion sick. The bus driver stopped and asked the customers if anyone was feeling ill and needed a break, since no one-including Mr. Yang- spoke up the driver returned to driving the route. Upon arrival at their destination, Mr. Yang confronted the bus driver. Mr. Yang starts off by telling the bus driver that he sucks at his job and he shouldn’t even have a driver’s license. When the driver asks Mr. Yang why he didn’t speak up earlier Mr. Yang responds by slapping the driver in the face three times. The bus driver then unleashes the thunder and slams Mr. Yang in the face multiple times. In fact, Mr. Yang falls forward and is clinging to the steering wheel to stay upright as the driver pounds his face like a lump of stubborn dough. The driver then kicks Mr. Yang off the bus and punches him one more time for good measure. In a follow up investigation the driver’s actions were ruled as self-defense and Mr. Yang was ordered to issue a public apology and pay the driver USD $400 in compensation. Once he recovers from the brain damage we imagine Mr. Yang’ll be driving himself around. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. AirAsia QZ8501: plane made ‘unbelievably steep climb’ before disappearing on radar

01:17
Data shows that AirAsia flight QZ8501 made a steep climb beyond the Airbus A320’s limits before disappearing from radar. The pilot of flight QZ8501 reportedly asked for permission to climb to 38,000 ft from 32,000 ft and deviate to the left to avoid bad weather at 6:12 a.m., Reuters reported. Jakarta airport controller responded two minutes later and asked QZ8501 to go left seven miles and climb to 34,000 ft but was unable to get a response from the pilot, reported by Reuters. A leaked image from AirNav Indonesia appeared to show that QZ8501 climbed to 36,300 ft at a speed of 353 knots, Reuters reported. Aviation experts told Reuters that the aircraft may have climbed too suddenly and encountered an aerodynamic stall, meaning the air could not flow smoothly over the wing tops. The aircraft may have then lost its lift force and then plunged to the sea. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Cure for cancer: Scientists may have accidentally found cancer cure in malaria vaccine - TomoNews

01:24
COPENHAGEN, DENMARK — Scientists researching for a vaccine against malaria in pregnant women may have accidentally discovered an effective weapon against cancer. Scientists from the University of Copenhagen (UCPH) and the University of British Columbia (UBC) may have found a breakthrough in fighting cancer, which could result in a medical treatment for those affected with the deadly disease. Malaria researcher Professor Ali Salanti from UCPH in collaboration with cancer researcher Mads Daugaard from UBC have revealed that the carbohydrate the malaria parasite attaches itself to in the placenta in pregnant women is identical to a carbohydrate present in cancer cells. Scientists have created the protein that the malaria parasite uses to attach to the placenta in a laboratory and have added a toxin. The combination of malaria protein and toxin finds cancer cells, is absorbed, then the toxin is released inside, causing the cancer cells to die. The process has been witnessed in cell cultures and in trials of mice with cancer. The discovery has been detailed in the scientific journal Cancer Cell. "For decades, scientists have been searching for similarities between the growth of a placenta and a tumor. The placenta is an organ, which within a few months grows from only few cells into an organ weighing approx. two pounds, and it provides the embryo with oxygen and nourishment in a relatively foreign environment. In a manner of speaking, tumors do much the same, they grow aggressively in a relatively foreign environment," says Ali Salanti from the Department of Immunology and Microbiology at the University of Copenhagen. Research groups from the two universities have tested thousands of samples from brain tumors to leukemias and have found that the malaria protein is able to attack more than 90% of all types of tumors. The drug was tested on mice implanted with three types of human tumors: non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, prostate cancer and metastatic bone cancer. With the non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, the treated mice tumors were about a quarter of the size of the tumors in the control group. With prostate cancer, the tumors disappeared in two of the six treated mice a month after receiving the first dose. With metastatic bone cancer, five out of six of the mice treated were alive after nearly eight weeks, compared to none of the mice in a control group. Researchers are now working towards being able to conduct human trials. They say the earliest possible timeframe would be in four years. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Korean Air 'nut rage' outburst: Heather Cho Hyun-ah sentenced to 1 year in prison for cover-up

01:26
A former Korean Air vice president who drew worldwide ridicule last year when she ordered a passenger jet back to its gate after becoming enraged at the manner in which she was served macadamia nuts is headed to prison for one year for violating aviation safety law. Heather Cho Hyun-ah was sentenced February 12 in a Seoul court room for the December 5 tantrum in which she berated and assaulted the flight's chief air steward Park Chang-jin who had, without request, brought her macadamia nuts served in a bag rather than in a bowl. During sentencing the judge noted Cho's appeared insincere in her apologies, as she defended her actions telling the court she lived for her work. The episode reportedly deeply shamed her father, Korean Air chairman father, Cho Yang-ho and shocked and disgusted most ordinary Koreans. Many large businesses in South Korea, a country with a rigid social hierarchy, are family-run, and these elites often view themselves as untouchable. Ms Cho could consider herself lucky — prosecutors were seeking three years. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Dog saves police officer after men ambush him in Pearlington, Mississippi rest stop - TomoNews

01:30
PEARLINGTON, MISSISSIPPI — A Belgian Malinois dog named Lucas rescued Hancock County Deputy Todd Frazier from three men who ambushed him at a rest stop in Pearlington, Mississippi on Monday at 10 p.m. After being bitten by Lucas, the attackers got into a blue Town Car and drove off. The incident happened when Frazier was driving along Pearlington. He noticed a lone dark blue Town Car with a man in the driver's seat. The car was unlit, so Frazier got out of his vehicle to see if anything fishy was going on. As the deputy approached the car, three men came out and attacked him. During the scuffle, Frazier managed to get one hand free and reached for his police vehicle's remote control and opened the doors. Lucas jumped into action and bit the assailants, who later ran back into the Town Car and drove off. Frazier has his life thanks to his trusty pal, Lucas. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. World's first head transplant planned by doctor who compares himself to Frankenstein - TomoNews

02:13
ANNAPOLIS, MARYLAND — An Italian neuroscientist who claimed he could transplant a human head to a donor body admitted he actually did not know how to perform a head transplant and asked for help from America during a rambling presentation before a prestigious conference of surgeons in Maryland on Friday. Sergio Canavero gave his presentation at a joint meeting of the American Academy of Neurological and Orthopaedic Surgeons and International College of Surgeons, at which the man who has volunteered to have his head transplanted by Canavero, Russian computer scientist Valery Spiridonov, was present. Spiridonov suffers from a rare genetic muscle wasting disease and says he wants the chance to have a new body before he dies. Canavero's plan, as detailed in the online journal Surgical Neurology International, is to cool Spiridonov's head to help the brain survive when it is removed from its blood supply. The head's blood vessels would be cut and attached to a donor body. The spinal cord would then be cut with an ultra-sharp nano blade that would sever the nerve fibers without crushing them. Spiridonov's head would then be connected to the donor body. Finally, polyethylene glycol would be used to fuse the two ends of the spinal cords together. During his rambling 2 1/2 hour presentation on Friday, according to NBC News, Canavero compared himself to Dr. Frankenstein and asked his audience to "suspend all judgment." It was only during the last 10 minutes that he admitted that he did not know how to perform a head transplant. He did not explain how he could quickly re-establish blood supply to his patient's brain, which can only survive for a few minutes without a blood supply. Nor did he say how he would awaken his patient from a coma. "Let's suspend all judgment," Canavero said. "What you have been taught is wrong." Spiridonov, who watched the proceedings from a mobilized wheelchair, looked confused, NBC reports. Canavero suggested getting a billionaire to fund his experiment. "I am asking you, Americans, to make your contribution," he said. "I have a detailed plan to do it." ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. China's air pollution reaches red alert, here's how people are coping - TomoNews

02:10
BEIJING — Air quality problems are nothing new in China, but people have come up with some interesting and unusual ways to breathe cleaner air in the midst of high levels of air pollution. China's government issued the first air quality red alert last Tuesday, Bloomberg reported. They urge citizens not to go outside, and to take public transportation if possible to cut down on the amount of pollutants being pumped into the atmosphere. People wearing face masks is pretty common in Asia, but there are some different takes on the dust mask, or surgical mask, including nasal air filters like the Infipure invisible air pollution mask. Artists have also developed healthy breathing solutions like the breathing bicycle, designed by British artist Matt Hope, which uses the energy produced from pedaling to filter the air, and pump it into a mask worn by the person riding the bike. Chinese artist Chih Chiu created another creative way to breathe clean air by attaching a mask to a backpack that has a plant in it producing pure oxygen. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Losing everything: Couple commits suicide after losing company and home - TomoNews

01:39
XINZHUANG, TAIWAN — Police in Taiwan discovered the bodies of a couple who had fallen on hard times. Both deaths appeared to be suicides. Mr. Li and his wife invested all their money into a plastics factory 5 years ago. Unfortunately, the business went under and the Li’s owed over a million USD in debt. They were forced to declare bankruptcy after they sold their house. The couple disappeared, cutting off all contact with their families less than two years ago. Unbeknownst to their family, the couple was living in the countryside and they were falling behind on the rent. Mrs. Li finally couldn’t take it anymore and swallowed over 100 sleeping pills. Her 65 year old husband returned to the apartment to discover his wife’s body. Mr. Li moved his wife’s body into the backseat of their car and began driving. He attempted to apply for a loan from the bank and was denied, family speculate it was because he lacked the funds to give his wife a proper burial. In the end, Mr. Li parked the car behind this building, spending the night in the car with the body of his wife. He would spend a second night in the parking lot with his wife’s body before using a rope and hanging himself on the truck next to their car. Employees coming to work on Monday discovered Mr. Li’s body hanging from the truck and contacted police. Mr. Li’s younger sister was horrified to discover her brother had killed himself. She said the couple had ceased all contact less than 2 years ago and no one knew what had happened to them. The sister said it was because of her brother’s pride, he felt that he couldn’t ask for any assistance from his family. Police discovered over 300 sleeping pills in the car. The couple died with less than USD $200 to their name. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets.
