Child kidnapping stopped: Hero bus driver saves three-year-old from abductor - TomoNews

01:47
MILPITAS, CALIFORNIA — A Northern California bus driver is being hailed a hero after he says he followed his parental instincts, an intuition so sharp it led him to stop a kidnapper from abducting a young boy on Friday. A 3-year-old boy was reported kidnapped at the Milpitas Public Library at around 10:40 a.m. Local police quickly responded, closing the library to incoming and outgoing traffic and sending alerts to all area bus drivers to be on the lookout. Tim Watson was on his morning shift when he caught sight of one of the alerts and about an hour later, the driver noticed a passenger in his mid-20's with a crying boy, both of whom matched descriptions mentioned in the police alert. Trusting his fatherly instincts Watson pulled the bus over and announced that someone had lost a backpack. "What I'm really trying to do is to get up without him knowing to look at the little boy," Watson told ABC 7 News. "So sure enough, I see the plaid shorts and red shoes. That's what really stuck out in my mind." The father of two noticed the boy's red shoes and quickly radioed police. "And that's when my own kids came to mind and I just broke down. I couldn't hold myself down. I just had to go inside the bus and reflect," said Watson. The parents of the child were too emotional to speak publicly, but were thankful to both the police and Watson for rescuing their little boy. Milpitas police detained Alfonso David Edington, 23, who had no connections to the family and is currently being held on charges of kidnapping. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Fight caught on tape: U-Haul mover with MMA fighting skills knocks out antagonist - TomoNews

01:21
BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS — A U-Haul mover with some serious MMA skills dropped a man, who was disrupting their work, on his head. The video was recorded in September but only recently found it's way to the web. Movers are by nature big, strong, and used to throwing things around, and boy did one shirtless numbskull learn that the hard way in Boston's Chinatown. The antagonist also got a lesson about why it's not a good idea to mess with people you don't know. The video was uploaded over the weekend, but after a skull-cracking like that, the guy may never fully understand what happened. The sleepy shirtless man finally came to and stumbled to his feet. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Brazil homeless hero killed on video saving woman held hostage by Sao Paulo shooter - TomoNews

01:58
SAO PAULO — A violent drama played out on the steps of the Sao Paulo Cathedral, in Brazil's largest city, last Friday afternoon, when a hunted criminal took a woman hostage in an attempt to evade capture by police. 49-year-old Luiz Antonio da Silva had just finished a 22-year stint in prison, when he again ran afoul of the cops. After 20 minutes praying in the church with this 25-year-old woman, he attempted to use her as a human shield to avoid police. When da Silva exited the church, the woman caught a cop's attention, so da Silva fired at him. At the familiar sound of gunfire, a crowd of pedestrians gather at the scene, showing how inured to violence people in Sao Paulo have become. But out of the gawking crowd, only a 61-year-old homeless man named Francisco Erasmo Rodrigues de Lima took it upon himself to do something. While police held the gunman's attention, de Lima snuck around a parked truck and up the steps. Then de Lima crept all the way up to the gunman and dove on him, freeing the hostage. It's at this point that perceptions diverge. The men fight and da Silva and the police both start shooting. In a moment, both men will be dead. Police say that after the old vagrant knocked da Silva onto the ground, the gunman fired several shots into de Lima's chest. Yet others say da Silva missed, and it was a police bullet that killed the brave man. Whichever the case, the last incredible act shown on the video is members of the Sao Paulo police disregarding de Lima as he bleeds to death, alone, in the church doorway. A homeless friend of Francisco Erasmo Rodrigues de Lima said the 61 year old father of four often stepped up to intervene in fights. He had lived on the streets for 10 years before he died. De Lima was buried north of Sao Paulo following a small ceremony with his estranged wife and two children in attendance. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Switched at birth: 20 year old women receive $2 million compensation for clinical error

01:33
Twenty years ago in a private maternity clinic on the French riviera, two newborn baby girls were carelessly switched just after birth by the auxiliary nurse. The two newborns were both suffering from jaundice and were both placed into the same incubator, but when they were returned, they were handed over to the wrong mothers. Sophie Serrano, a new mother and just 18 years old herself, questioned the nurse who brought her her baby. She noticed that her daughter’s hair seemed to have grown remarkably fast. The nurse told her not to worry about it. So, Sophie tried to put her doubts to rest and took her new daughter home with her. However, as her daughter grew, it wasn’t just Sophie that started to notice there was something different about her daughter. Many of the locals noticed Sophie’s daughter had different hair and darker skin than either of her parents. The little girl also bore very little resemblance to her mother or her father. Finally, Sophie’s husband demanded a paternity test. All three--father, mother, and daughter--had a DNA test and were astonished to discover the three of them shared no genetic link to each other. Sophie notified the clinic and an investigation was launched. Sophie has met her biological daughter and the family who raised her in her place. Sophie could only describe the meeting as ‘pretty disturbing’ and although the families tried to forge a link, in the end it was too difficult and now the only contact they have is through their lawyers. After a criminal action against the maternity clinic was dropped, the two families pursued a civil case. In the end the judge awarded each family $1 million USD. Sophie says she hopes the case will ease the guilt she’s felt and bring some vindication against the locals who constantly whispered that her eldest daughter was the postman’s child. She said nothing would separate her from her daughter. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. New powerful antibiotic Teixobactin discovered

01:17
U.S. scientists have discovered a new class of antibiotic that can kill many kinds of drug-resistant pathogens, according to a report published Wednesday in the journal Nature. Many pathogens have evolved to resist antibiotics developed from bacteria that can be grown in labs. So the scientists developed the new drug, known as Teixobactin, by screening 10,000 bacterial strains from soil that cannot be cultured in labs. To grow germs from soil bacteria, scientists filled a device containing several hundred dotted chambers with cells from different bacterium. The device, which they call the iChip, was then placed in soil to allow the bacteria to grow. Once the bacteria were cultivated, they were placed in a petri dish and covered by a target bacteria, called Staph. Empty zones in the petri dish signalled that the bacteria below had released an antibiotic that inhibited the growth of the target Staph bacteria. The newly discovered antibiotic, Teixobactin, kills a class of bacteria called gram-positive bacteria by binding to the building blocks they use to construct their cell walls and causing the cell walls to break down. It is especially effective against bacteria that cause certain types of tuberculosis and pneumonia, and Staphylococcus aureus, which causes MRSA. Teixobactin, however, does not work against gram-negative bacteria, including bacteria that cause cholera and gonorrhea. Kim Lewis, a professor at Northeastern University in Boston and lead author of the study, told the Wall Street Journal that there could be human trials of Teixobactin in two years. He said the trials could take two to three years. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Pinworms in your butt: 7YO infected with millions of worms from biting her nails

01:25
You know when your mom and dad tell you to go wash your hands before eating, but you don’t really think your hands are all that dirty? Think again. You could have tiny nearly invisible pinworm eggs under your fingernails. Pinworms are tiny worms that commonly infect the intestines, particularly of children. Pinworms are really small, about as long as a staple. They infect their host by getting in through the mouth, then the eggs pass through the digestive tract and hatch in the small intestine. The baby worm then grows up and moves out into the large intestine. The females will move to the very end of the large intestine and come out of the body at night to lay their eggs around the host’s anus. A 7 year old girl living in Fujian had a bad habit of nail biting and began complaining to her mother that her bottom itched. The mother used a flashlight to examine her daughter’s anus and was shocked to see something wriggling around along the edges. Ah, the joys of parenthood! Anyway, she immediately took her daughter to the hospital. The doctor explained that since the pinworms came out late at night to lay their eggs around the girl’s anus she would often scratch her anus, then bite her nails, thus feeding the pinworms back into her system. The girl had quite a colony of wriggling pinworms living inside her by the time her mother brought her to hospital. The doctor gave her girl some de-worming medication and she should be worm free within 2 weeks. Maybe now she’ll wash her hands when her parents tell her to. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Selfie gone wrong: idiot iPad thieves arrested after accidentally uploading photos to iCloud

02:08
A Houston robbery victim got his iPad back after the idiot thieves who took it inadvertently identified themselves after taking celebratory photos on the device, which automatically backed up to the owner’s iCloud account. "I think they felt elated that they got away with such a big score," Randy Schaefer told KTRK-TV. Schaefer’s white F-150 truck was parked outside his River Oaks home on January 8th when two suspects broke in and stole his iPad, $5,000 in cash and his MacBook Pro. It wasn’t until last Friday morning, though, that he discovered the culprits behind the theft when he checked his iCloud photo stream and found 17 selfies taken by two mysterious men. The photos showed the suspects posing with stacks of $100 bills and going as far as to put them in their mouths. A Youtube video surfaced Friday night showing the men throwing up gang signs saying, “this is what you get from a good night’s hustle.” Schaefer said the selfies were taken on his iPad at a Burger King just two miles down the street from his home. Some of the other stolen items were found in an alley behind a Starbucks located near the Burger King. Schaefer believes the suspects connected to the Starbucks Wi-Fi and synced the selfies accidentally to his iCloud account. Police arrested the dumb duo on Wednesday and charged Dorian Markee Walker-Gaines, 20, and his friend Dylan, 22, with theft. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Soldier jumps on grenade: Hero Marine who saved squad in Iraq denied Medal of Honor - TomoNews

01:38
SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA — After years of fighting for a Medal of Honor nomination, the family of a heroic Marine sergeant has given up and instead accepted a Navy Cross on his behalf. Sgt. Rafael Peralta died in Iraq after absorbing the blow of a grenade that would likely have killed members of his team. He was just 25. Former Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel rejected the Medal of Honor bid because the details of Peralta’s death are still under dispute. On the morning of November 15th 2004, Peralta’s team was clearing houses in Fallujah. Inside the fourth house, the team threw open a door to find several insurgents armed with AK-47s. The Marines exchanged fire with the men and killed one of the insurgents. During the fire exchange, a bullet struck Rafael, severely injuring him. Reports indicate Peralta was struck by a bullet from his own team as he tried to move out of the line of fire. As the remaining insurgents retreated, a grenade landed next to Peralta. Initial reports indicated he pulled the grenade under his body in an effort to shield his men from the explosion. But later reports contradicted that story. “I can remember people saying it would be the right thing to do, to say that he did more than he did,” said Reggie Brown, who was inside the house with Peralta, during a 2014 interview with the Washington Post. “I disagree with everything my fellow Marines proclaim to have seen,” Brown said. Other Marines have disputed Brown’s statement. Regardless, Peralta’s body did absorb the blow of the grenade, which normally has a 5-meter killing radius. On Monday morning, Peralta’s mother accepted the Navy Cross, which is the second highest award a Marine can receive. Peralta’s brother spoke at the ceremony and read the last letter he received from the fallen hero. In it, Peralta told his little brother to “just remember that I already lived my life to the fullest.” Peralta was a Mexican immigrant, who reportedly enlisted in the military the same day he received his green card. “His legacy will carry on as long as the Marine Corps stays alive,” Rick Peralta said during the ceremony. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Russia superhighway: NYC to London by car a reality or pipedream?

01:28
Driving from London to New York City would be possible if Russia succeeds in building a superhighway spanning across the country with links to western Europe and Asia. During a March meeting, head of the Russian Railways Vladimir Yakunin unveiled an ambitious plan called the Trans-Eurasian Belt Development, which entails constructing a superhighway and an accompanying high-speed railway. If the plan is realised, motorists will be able to drive from London to New York. Russia hopes the development will spur the economies of remote cities and towns. The Trans-Siberian Railway is about 9,000 kilometres long. According to CNN, a road trip from London to New York would cover about 20,777 kilometers. Yakunin said other infrastructure such as oil pipelines, power plants and water supply facilities will be built alongside the highway and high-speed railway. The mega highway system will face a multitude of difficulties, one of them being the connection to Alaska across the Bering Strait. Either a long bridge or a undersea tunnel would be needed. Money is likely to be another challenge. Russian Railways said the construction cost would amount to trillions of dollars. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Renewable energy: CETO system converts sea waves into zero-emission electricity

01:21
An Australian company has been working on a system that uses underwater buoys to convert sea waves into zero-emission energy and desalinated water. Australian firm Carnegie Wave Energy has been developing a system called CETO, which aims to utilise sea waves to generate power. Steel-made buoys that can currently generate 240 kilowatts are the main part of the system. At the Australian naval base HMAS Stirling, three buoys are placed 11 kilometres apart. The buoys are less susceptible to extreme weather damage, while underwater waves are sufficient to generate power. The buoys' pumps drive the high pressure water to an onshore power plant via a subsea pipe. The high pressure water spins the turbines, which then generate zero-carbon electricity. The CETO system can be used to power a desalination plant as well. High pressure water can be utilised to remove salt from seawater through a permeable membrane in a process called reverse osmosis. The Australian company believes that the cost of electricity generated by the CETO system will be competitive with diesel if it is deployed at a large scale. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Cure for Alzheimer's? Ultrasound shows potential in clearing toxic brain plaques

01:32
Australian researchers have found that mice suffering from Alzheimer's performed much better in behaviour tests after receiving ultrasound treatment, a discovery that could give hope in the battle to find a cure for humans suffering from the degenerative illness. Neurotransmitter activities are disrupted in the brain of Alzheimer's patients. Beta amyloids, a natural protein, accumulated in a patient's brain, leading to the formation of plaques that can damage nerve cells. The cerebral cortex of Alzheimer's patients also shrink as symptoms progress. Scientists at the University of Queensland in Australia conducted a series of tests in which they injected a solution containing tiny gas bubbles in mice. Ultrasound treatment helps the gas bubbles to expand. The bubbles then temporarily open a gap in the blood-brain barrier, allowing the entrance of antibodies into the brain. The antibodies remove toxic beta amyloids thus reducing the size of plaques in the patient's brain. Researchers plan to carry out the same tests in larger animals such as sheep. Tests in humans will be more difficult because of the harder human skull, which ultrasonic waves cannot easily penetrate. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Revenge against rapist: boyfriend brutally beats uncle who allegedly raped his girlfriend on NYE

01:35
A South Carolina man had the living daylights beaten out of him after allegedly raping his nephew's girlfriend on New Year's Eve. William L. Mattson, 52, was arrested by Conway police on charges of criminal sexual conduct in the first degree for allegedly raping his nephew’s girlfriend. A police report shows that Mattson’s nephew, 27, had brought his girlfriend, 21, to his father’s house after the two had attended a New Year’s Eve party. The nephew left and he told police he returned to hear strange noises from outside the door of the room he shares with his girlfriend. He told officers he broke the door down and found his Uncle Mattson on top of his girlfriend trying to sexually assault her. The nephew claims he next dragged his uncle from out of the room and beat him repeatedly. Mattson told police his nephew’s girlfriend was drinking with him when they started to hug and kiss each other in the living room. Mattson claimed the girl consensually went upstairs with him and she got naked under a blanket, but that he was fully clothed. When his nephew caught them he was so upset that he repeatedly struck him. The victim denied that the incident was consensual. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Seattle PD Officer Whitlatch gets desk duty after arresting a elderly veteran William Wingate

Seattle Police apologize for mistreating a 70-year-old man out on a stroll with his golf club — but that's just the tip of the iceberg. On July 9, 2014, William Wingate was walking through the Capitol Hill section of Seattle, Washington as part of his normal routine when Officer Cynthia Whitlatch of the Seattle Police Department pulled her cruiser over and accused him of swinging a golf club at her. Wingate wasn't having it. The Air Force veteran and retired Metro bus driver tried to explain to Officer Whitlatch that he uses the club as a walking stick and was simply minding his own business. Officer Whitlatch then called for backup and the senior citizen was placed under arrest and put into a paddy wagon, which because of his age, he needed some help into according to the report — talk about not respecting your elders! In October of last year the City Attorney recommended the case for dismissal after former Washington State Representative Dawn Mason became involved. Working with Chief Kathleen O'Toole and Deputy Chief Carmen Best, the three were able to get the charges dropped, and right this wrong, at least on paper. But the rabbit hole goes much deeper, it seems. Officer Whitlatch ex-girlfriend, who was also a police officer at one point, says that Whitlatch often dropped the N-bomb around her when talking about her day on the job. In another incident, Seattle resident Brian Davis got into a dispute on Facebook with Officer Whitlatch during the Ferguson protests and riots last summer while talking about a post from another officer/mutual friend who was "tired of folks assuming all cops are racist." Davis's reply was simply that the poster should stop thinking the protests were just about "the cops" and realize its about "The System." That's when Officer Whitlatch left this reply saying in essence "black racism" is far more damaging as a whole than "white racism." And black folks shouldn't be paranoid that all white folks are "out to get them." Oh really? I'm sure Wingate here felt the same exact way back in July, about two seconds before this incident. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Concealed carry defense: Old man with concealed carry kills robber wielding BB gun

01:19
A robber learned the hard way about Pennsylvania's concealed carry gun permits yesterday afternoon in Upper Darby Township, just outside Philadelphia. A 67-year-old man was out for a walk alongside this wooded part of Cobbs Creek around 2:30 p.m.. In the distance, hidden from view, two men were watching him. One of the men, later identified as 18-year-old Tyler Williams, jumped out of the woods with a ski mask on. He demanded cash from the man while brandishing a weapon. Without pause, the victim grabbed the suspect's gun while simultaneously drawing his own weapon. As the two struggled, the man fired one shot into William's head, killing him. The other suspect fled the scene. Police later recovered several cellphones from Williams's body, as well as the weapon, which wasn't real, but a replica BB gun like the one seen here. Charges will likely not be filed against the victim, who was acting out of self-defense and had a legal permit to carry his sidearm. The other suspect is being sought after as of this report. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Heroes stop attempted rape: Missouri friends follow screams and rescue 14-year-old girl - TomoNews

01:46
SPRINGFIELD, MISSOURI — Three friends are being hailed as heroes for stepping in to save a young girl just as she was about to be raped in the dead of night in a Missouri forest, the Springfield News-Leader reports. The as yet unidentified friends had just parked their car near a trail leading to Wilson's Creek Thursday night when they heard screams coming from the dark woods. The friends reacted immediately, running into the woods while using their cellphones as flashlights to search through the darkness. Soon, they discovered the horrible sight of a 22-year-old man, identified as Christopher Muller, allegedly lying on top of a terrified 14-year-old girl. Muller was wearing only boxer shorts and it is suspected he was attempting to rape the girl. The three men wrestled Muller down and held him until police arrived. Muller was arrested and is being held in Greene County Jail on charges of attempted rape and statutory rape. The victim, who was not identified as she is a minor, was reportedly catatonic following the assault but is reportedly recovering well. The three friends are being called heroes for bravely running into the woods that evening. Muller has denied all rape charges saying he had simply gone for a swim, which might explain why he was found wearing only boxer shorts, and was returning to his car when he was "jumped" by several individuals whom he could not see clearly as he wasn't wearing his glasses. Bizarrely however, he reportedly also told authorities that he thought his alleged victim was "hot" and believed that she was 15, not 14 years old. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Paris terror attacks: woman played dead over an hour survive Bataclan theater shootout - TomoNews

01:34
PARIS — The story of how 22-year-old South African native Isobel Bowdery survived a terrorist massacre at the Bataclan Music Hall in Paris, along with a picture of her bloodstained shirt, is going viral online. Bowdery, originally from Cape Town, was with her boyfriend at the music hall enjoying a concert on the evening of November 13, 2015, when alleged Islamic State terrorists entered the concert venue and began firing into the central dance floor area with AK-47 automatic weapons. Bowdery says she saw dozens of people murdered in front of her. In a Facebook post that is now been viewed by tens of thousands of people, she writes that she initially believed somehow the men with weapons entering the premises were part of the show but quickly realized that this wasn't just a terrorist attack, it was intended to be a massacre. She says she pretended to be dead for over an hour, "lying among people who could see their loved ones motionless … holding my breath … trying not to move, not cry — not giving these men the fear they long to see." In her post she describes how random strangers assisted her, with one man reportedly covering her head in what appeared to be an attempt to stop any bullets from being fatal. After exiting the theater she spotted an individual she thought was her boyfriend who turned out to be a stranger. The man, she says despite being alone and frightened himself, spent 45 minutes consoling her and trying to assist her. Bowdery also praised those who offered transportation, plus her friends who immediately went to find new clothes so she would not have to continue wearing a bloodstained white shirt. The image of her shirt has also been shared widely online. Writing about couples whose last words to each other were expressions of love, Bowdery says as she waited for a bullet to end her 22 years on earth, she closed her eyes and mentally pictured her loved ones and repeated "I love you" to them over and over. Reports indicate Bowdery's boyfriend survived; some 80 to 100 people however, were slaughtered by these murderous militants and with scores more in hospital in critical condition, the death toll from the attack on Bataclan Theatre is expected to rise. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Poor shaming: 100 kids banned from New York carnival as friends who paid $10 ticket play - TomoNews

01:38
NEW YORK — A public school principal in the Flushing neighborhood of Queens, New York is taking some serious heat from everyone from parents to politicians over her decision to ban 100 kids from a school carnival because their families could not afford the $10 entrance fee. Principal Joan Monroe reportedly decided that allowing the kids who did not pay to enter the carnival fun area would be unfair to the more affluent children who were able to afford the fee. Reports in the New York Post said many of the children who were not allowed to attend were from immigrant Chinese families and instead of enjoying a day of school-sponsored fun, they were required to sit in an auditorium instead. Teachers from the school reported many of the children wept hysterically as they were unable to understand why they were not allowed to enjoy the event, which included a bouncy castle, inflatable slides, kids rides, food, drinks and a DJ playing children's tunes. The school principal later allegedly made a list of all the parents that did pay the entrance fee and send them gift bags. The incident caught the attention of the local school board, politicians and the president of the company that set up the carnival attraction. The company's president, Gary Pincus, said his Send in the Clowns Entertainment company would happily put on a free party for the banned kids, explaining he found it unacceptable that children from low income families were turned away. Other establishments and companies have also offered to host free events for the children that were not permitted to attend. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Plane almost runs out of fuel: Allegiant Air flight lands with just minutes of fuel left - TomoNews

01:34
FARGO, NORTH DAKOTA — Allegiant Air flight 426 landed on July 23 at Hector international Airport in Fargo North Dakota with only a few minutes of fuel left in its tanks. A recording of the conversation between the pilot and airport control was posted on the aviation website LiveATC.net, in which the pilot can be heard speaking with air traffic control operators who inform him the airport is closed as U.S. Navy Blue Angels are there practicing for an upcoming air show. The pilot then informs the tower that the plane is on "Bingo fuel," reportedly aviation terminology for the minimum amount of fuel required to complete a safe landing. The plane had been delayed in Las Vegas for an hour and therefore missed its original landing window at Hector international Airport. However, it's unknown why the plane was not carrying a mandatory 45 minute fuel reserve nor is it clear how the airline and the pilots that day were uninformed of the airport's closure. Eventually, reports say, the pilot was told he would need to declare a mid-air emergency in order to be permitted to land at the closed airport. After doing just that, the airliner landed shortly after 1 p.m. local time. None of the 144 passengers and six crew were injured. The airline, the airport and the US Federal Aviation Administration have begun an investigation into what could've been a disastrous incident. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Free-range kids: CPS takes children away from couple again in example of parenting police state

01:39
A family in Silver Spring, Maryland could face charges for child neglect for the second time in a matter of months. Danielle and Sasha Meitiv found themselves in the national spotlight in January, after neighbors complained they were letting their children roam the neighborhood unattended. The Meitivs -- who are both scientists -- insisted they were right to allow their children, aged 10 and 6, to play in the park or walk home from school without adult supervision. They were in the process of appealing Child Protective Service's child neglect charge. Then it happened again. On Sunday, Rafi Meitiv and his younger sister Dvora were just a few blocks from home when a police officer pulled up. "The policeman said 'we'll give you a ride home' when we were like two blocks away," Rafi told a Fox 5 reporter. "So we got into the car and then about two and a half hours later -- after sitting in the car for two and a half hours -- he said, 'okay I'll bring you home,'" Rafi said. But the officer took the two children to CPS without notifying Danielle and Sasha. The parents finally received a call around 8 p.m., but were not permitted to see their children for several more hours. "It's 10:30 at night," Danielle told reporters once CPS handed the children over. "They've been missing since 6 o'clock." Danielle said the kids normally carry "free range" badges so neighbors know they're not lost, but the children had left them behind that day. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Tracks covered with thick, deep snow is no problem for this train in New Brunswick, Canada. In the video, the train’s windshield is completely covered with snow as it approaches a level crossing. How can the conductor see outside? Though the snow is thick and heavy, the freight train shows no sign of stopping. It barrels through, creating a huge avalanche of snow that covers videographer Darren Gordon. Gone girl: Rosemary Diaz' remains found near Houston 25 years after she went missing - TomoNews

01:15
DANEVANG, TEXAS — A quarter century after a 15-year-old girl in southeast Texas went missing, police have found what are believed to be her remains, the Houston Chronicle reported. Rosemary Diaz was working at Dane's Country Store in Danevang, a community in Wharton County, on November 24, 1990 when she called her mom to say she was closing up the shop for the day. After the call, a couple stopped by the store but found no one inside. Diaz' purse and the radio she listened to at work were still there, and her car was parked outside. The couple called the police, but the store didn't have security cameras and the case didn't stir up any more attention. Police received new tips about her disappearance in recent months and started digging at a rural property not far from the shop. On November 24 — exactly 25 years after she disappeared — human remains were found. Investigators also found an amethyst ring with a heart-shaped stone believed to be the one Rosemary received from her family as a present. The ring was given to her in occasion of her "quinceanera," a Hispanic term for the celebration of a girl's 15th birthday. Police think a relative of the owners of the property where the remains were found abducted Diaz, killed her and buried her there. The man, at the time in his 20s and now deceased, allegedly made some "partial confessions" to Diaz' family members over the years. A forensic team will try to identify the remains, but the ring seems to be enough proof to link the findings with Diaz' body. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Missing person case solved: veteran's car, remains found at bottom of Lake Rhodhiss, NC - TomoNews

01:08
CALDWELL COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA — The remains of missing Air Force veteran Amos Shook, 44, who disappeared 43 years ago, have been discovered along with his car at the bottom of Lake Rhodhiss in North Carolina. The cold case was reopened when Shook's daughter contacted the Caldwell County Sheriff's Department last month. They had no clues, but then they stumbled on the 1968 Pontiac Catalina 30 feet below the surface of the lake using sonar and a diving team. Inside the car were what authorities believe to be the remains of Shook, along with his wallet. Authorities don't believe it was a suicide, or that there was any foul play involved in the death or disappearance, and the case is considered closed. But there are still some unanswered questions. Caldwell County Sheriff Alan Jones was quoted in a press conference as saying: "Finding somebody that's still alive that could answer those, will be tough." ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Massive blizzard hits the United States’ East Coast on Monday

01:12
The Mid-Atlantic and the Northeast are bracing for what the National Weather Service has labeled a “crippling” snowstorm threatening to sweep through the East Coast on Monday and Tuesday. New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio warned city residents on Sunday that New York is facing what could be “one of the largest snowstorms in the history of this city.” The snowstorm, dubbed “Winter Storm Juno” by the National Weather Service, began in the Midwest. Storms are created at cold fronts as warm air from the equator meets cold air from the poles. At the point where the two types of air meet, the warm, moist air rises above the cold air and creates storm clouds. This relatively mild storm will likely transform from a clipper-type storm system into a blizzard as it makes its way from the Midwest to the Northeast. The main reason for this transformation is that as the storm approaches Washington D.C., the storm hits a trough, a concave, low-pressure area of the global jet stream conducive to wet, stormy weather. Jet streams are formed by the difference in temperature between the northern and southern hemispheres. As this difference in temperature begins to lessen because of global warming, the jet stream has started to move more slowly, and consequentially become more wavy. This has created more opportunities for the troughs to dip deeper into parts of the United States. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Drugs: man posts heartbreaking video of effects of bad ecstasy pill on his body - TomoNews

02:43
WANGARATTA, AUSTRALIA — After being discharged from the hospital, 20-year-old Jordan Hurdes posted a heartbreaking video on Facebook in which he shows, from one body spasm to another, the harmful effects a bad ecstasy pill had on his body. After taking a party drug that sent him to the hospital, Hurdes is now left with the possibility of permanently having a stutter and a twitch. The video is difficult to watch and is meant to show how drugs can destroy a person's life. Jordan's message is simple: Don't do drugs, guys. It's not worth it. "So as some of you may have seen I have been in hospital for the past few days," he says in the video. "This isn't a sympathy post, but a post of awareness. Going out and having fun is all good and well. And taking party drugs (pills, pingas, googs) seems like a fun option and you don't think anything life-changing could happen to you. "I myself am lucky to be alive now. I now have the possibility of a permanent stutter and twitch due to nerve or brain damage. Please please please don't take the 'cheaper fun' option, because you never know if it could happen to you. If I can get this into at least a couple of people's heads, then I could have saved someone's life. "I would also like to thank my amazing gorgeous friends for all the gifts and support to not only myself but my family, and for coming to visit me today and make the most of it. I love you all. "Feel free to share this post as I want as many people to see how a simple party drug can change someone's life." The video has been shared almost 100,000 times on Facebook since it was posted three days ago and received more than 3.1 million views. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Yangyang said she was pleased with the results and couldn’t wait for the swelling to go down. Then the stranger attacked Yangyang, punching her repeatedly in the face until nurses were able to subdue the attacker. Hospital staff later explained to police that the 30 year old woman was a disgruntled patient who’d had some work done 5 years ago. Dissatisfied with the results the woman would often return to the hospital to cuss out and slander the doctor who’d worked on her. That day, the doctor wasn’t in the office, so the stranger apparently decided to take out her rage on poor Yangyang. Thankfully for Yangyang, the damage was superficial and only left mild bruising. Yangyang pressed charges against the woman and the hospital increased security. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Murdered for wearing red shoes: special needs teen slain in front of mom in South L.A. - TomoNews

01:31
LOS ANGELES — Tavin Price, a developmentally disabled teenager, was shot and killed by an unknown assailant who objected to him wearing red shoes in an area controlled by a gang that favors a different color. Tavin and his mother, Jennifer Rivers, had planned an early weekend trip to a beach in South Los Angeles, but after stopping at a car wash, Tavin walked towards a nearby store to purchase cigarettes. An as-yet unidentified assailant confronted 19-year-old Tavin Price and demanded he remove his shoes as the color red was considered offensive due to gang associations. Tavin refused, explaining he was in no way connected to gangs. As the young man returned to his mother's car, the assailant returned with a gun and fired four shots into his back and chest area. Tavin was pronounced dead on the operating table of a nearby hospital. Tavin's family and community leaders condemned the killing, and authorities say they are reviewing surveillance footage from the car wash in a bid to identify the murder suspect. A memorial was held at the car wash on Monday, where mourners lit candles and sang Happy Birthday as Monday would've been Tavin's 20th birthday. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Home invader shot dead after gunfight with 13-year-old boy in South Carolina - TomoNews

01:07
LADSON, SOUTH CAROLINA — A 13-year-old boy opened fire on a would-be burglar after the suspect tried to break into his house in Charleston, South Carolina on Tuesday afternoon, the Charleston County Sheriff's Office said. Police on Tuesday night identified the deceased suspect as 31-year-old Lamar Brown from Summerville. Ira Bennett, who was the getaway the driver, has been charged with first degree burglary. At 1:30 p.m., a 13-year-old Ladson boy was home alone when he heard a commotion at the back of his house. The boy retrieved his mother's gun and went to investigate. The mother said to the Post and Courier that she bought the gun for protection but never taught her son how to use it. "I tell my kids that if anything ever happens to call 911, but I also tell them to protect themselves if they have to," she said to the Post and Courier. "I never would have dreamed that this would have been a part of our day today." The boy saw someone trying to get in through the back door and opened fire through the door. The suspect reportedly fired back. Neighbor Debbie Griffin witnessed the attempted burglary and reportedly heard around six shots before calling the police. She added that her son was outside at the time as more shots rang out, reported the Post and Courier. The suspect was seen fleeing in a silver vehicle. He was later taken to Trident Hospital where he died, authorities said. Neighbors thanked the boy for his quick action, but the family said they no longer felt safe in their home. The family had just moved into the house this past May. The sheriff's office is continuing the investigation and deputies are searching for the driver of the vehicle. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Trump bounty dead or alive: El Chapo drug kingpin wants the Donald for $100 million - TomoNews

01:47
SINALOA STATE, MEXICO — Donald Trump, the reality TV host and frontrunner for the Republican nomination for U.S. president, has reportedly started taking threats against his life seriously. Specifically, he's worried about the threat of a $100 million bounty placed on his head recently by the world's most powerful drug kingpin, and proud Mexican, Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman. The unconfirmed bounty has been widely reported in Spanish and English and is attributed to an unnamed prisoner, somewhere in Mexico, who says of El Chapo, "He was mad. He wants Donald Trump dead and will pay any amount of money to have Donald Trump's head." It seems Trump got El Chapo's attention with his June campaign speech when he said Mexico sends drugs, crime and rapists to the U.S. El Chapo, who prefers to think of himself as a "job creator," escaped from prison in early July and allegedly engaged in a flame war with Trump over Twitter, using an account attributed to El Chapo's son, Ivan. When Trump tweeted about Guzman's escape, El Chapo, or his son, replied with some very colorful Spanish and swore Trump would "eat his words." While displaying public bravado in the face of El Chapo's threats, Trump also asked the FBI to investigate the Twitter account. When asked about the threats, Trump said: "We have officials all over the place, included outside hanging out in trees." Without official confirmation of the bounty on Trump's head, it's unlikely anyone would brave his "officials in trees," but with El Chapo on the loose, and Trump on the campaign trail, the iconoclasts are sure to meet again, even if only on Twitter. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Mugger fail: Mugger gets owned by female MMA fighter in Brazil - TomoNews

01:28
ACAILANDIA, BRAZIL — Female MMA fighter Monique Bastos was mugged for her cell phone on Tuesday night, but one of the muggers got a rude awakening when she fought back and held him in leg lock until police came. Bastos told MMAFighting.com: "I was going to my jiu-jitsu training when they arrived on a motorcycle and said they wanted our phones. I tried to hold my phone, and I realized they were not armed. When they tried to escape, I lifted the rear wheel of the bike and they fell on the ground. The guy who took my phone ran away, but I was able to get the other one." Go Tropa reported that the man being pinned to the ground in the video is Wesley de Sousa Araujo, 18. While Bastos held him in a triangle leglock, he cried for his father, mother and Jesus to help him, along with calling out for the police, who did eventually come fifteen minutes later, but only to help by arresting the would-be thief, according to MMAFighting.com. Bastos added: "I've been through this a few times before, and it's the second time I fought back. There were two guys, and they were using knives, but I was able to use my jiu-jitsu and get my phone back. It's a huge risk, but I did it to defend myself and my friends, so I used what I learned." ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. China's air pollution reaches red alert, here's how people are coping - TomoNews

02:10
BEIJING — Air quality problems are nothing new in China, but people have come up with some interesting and unusual ways to breathe cleaner air in the midst of high levels of air pollution. China's government issued the first air quality red alert last Tuesday, Bloomberg reported. They urge citizens not to go outside, and to take public transportation if possible to cut down on the amount of pollutants being pumped into the atmosphere. People wearing face masks is pretty common in Asia, but there are some different takes on the dust mask, or surgical mask, including nasal air filters like the Infipure invisible air pollution mask. Artists have also developed healthy breathing solutions like the breathing bicycle, designed by British artist Matt Hope, which uses the energy produced from pedaling to filter the air, and pump it into a mask worn by the person riding the bike. Chinese artist Chih Chiu created another creative way to breathe clean air by attaching a mask to a backpack that has a plant in it producing pure oxygen. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Flash Crash 2010: UK trader arrested, accused of manipulating US stock market from his house

01:16
A UK home-based trader was arrested in London on Tuesday for causing the 'flash crash' in the United States stock market on May 6, 2010. The U.S. is now seeking his extradition. UK trader Navinder Singh Sarao has allegedly been manipulating the futures market using a technique known as spoofing for around 5 years, Reuters reported. The Justice Department and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission allege that Sarao set up an algorithm to help him place a flood of large sell orders of futures at a price that always stayed a bit higher than the best offer. He never intended to sell the orders and since he wasn't offering the best price, the algorithm made sure that he didn't accidentally sell them, according to Bloomberg. These fake sell orders created an appearance of excess supply, which then drove down the price of futures. Sarao would then buy the futures to make a profit once the price fell, according to Reuters. On May 6, 2010, the falling price of the futures market that Sarao was spoofing spread to other related markets, which led investors to abandon the market triggering a 'flash crash' in the Dow Jones Industrial Average, according to the New York Times. Sarao profited to the tune of almost $900,000 on the day of the flash crash, it is alleged. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Kidnapping escape: boy uses tricks he learned from crime movies in Sichuan, China - TomoNews

01:29
DEYANG, CHINA — A teenage boy who was kidnapped on his way to school in China's Sichuan province on September 24 was able to escape using tactics he learned by watching crime movies, the People's Daily Online reported. The 13-year-old was thrown in the back of a van and then was bound and gagged in an abandoned building located in a remote village. Elite Readers reported that the kidnapper called his parents and had the teen tell them that he had been kidnapped and to not contact the police, before demanding the equivalent of around $20,462 in ransom money. When he thought his captor had left, the boy untied himself and tried to flee, but the kidnapper was just outside of the building and caught him. The teen was tied up tighter, but when the kidnapper had left a second time, the boy shouted to see if he was still there, and then fled the abandoned building while still tied up. The boy made it to a nearby residential area, where he was rescued by residents who called the police. The kidnapper was arrested at a cybercafe later that day. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Massive earthquake expected to hit the Pacific Northwest along the Cascadia fault line - TomoNews

01:27
According to peer review studies recently highlighted in a New Yorker article, a giant earthquake is expected to hit the Pacific Northwest along the Cascadia subduction zone and strike an area that’s currently ill-prepared to handle its consequences. The Cascadia subduction zone is a fault line that runs from Cape Mendocino in northern California to Vancouver Island, Canada. It sits next to Juan de Fuca, an oceanic plate that continuously pushes against the North American continental plate. When the Juan de Fuca plate slides under the North American plate, it will cause an earthquake of a magnitude between 8.7 and 9.2 on the Richter scale, which dwarfs any earthquake unleashed by the San Andreas fault line. When the oceanic plate slides under Canada and the U.S., the entire coastal area will sink at least six feet in less than five minutes. Experts predict that northern California and Oregon will receive the greatest impact from the massive quake. They also predict that the massive earthquake and the tsunami that follows it, will displace millions, obliterate the region’s economy, and the Pacific Northwest may end up going months without electricity or water afterwards. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. NASA animation shows how dust from the Sahara desert fertilizes plants in the Amazon rainforest

01:17
The Sahara desert, the world’s largest desert, fertilizes the Amazon rainforest, also the world’s largest, according to atmospheric scientist Hongbin Yu, the lead author of a study by NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center. Relying on satellite data, NASA recently released an estimate of how much phosphorus is in the dust that travels from the Sahara to the Amazon basin. Each year, million tons of phosphorus-laden dust gets blown from the Sahara, more specifically from an ancient lake bed called the Bodele Depression in Chad, to the Amazon by strong winds. About 182 million tons of dust, enough to fill 689,290 semi-trucks, are carried across the Atlantic Ocean, where about 27.7 million tons of dust, enough to fill some 104,908 semi-trucks, fall atop of the Amazon. Phosphorus is essential to the growth of plants, which the Amazon depends on in order to flourish. Most of the Amazon’s phosphorus is washed away by rain into streams and out of the forest, but the amount lost, roughly 22,000 tons, is made up for by the dust from the Sahara desert. The pattern of dust transported annually is highly variable. Scientists believe this variation could have been affected by high rainfall in the Sahel region, the long strip of semi-arid land on the southern border of the Sahara. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Prison escape: Fake email account used by con man to forge 'bail granted' email for officials

01:09
An ingenious fraudster escaped from one of the most secure prisons in south London by posing as a senior court clerk and forging his own bail letter in March 2014. Neil Moore, 28, was being held at the Wandsworth Prison for a £1.8 million fraud offense. He impersonated staff from multiple major banks in the United States and the United Kingdom, and amassed a huge sum of money by deceiving big organizations between February 2012 and November 2013. He also reportedly had at least four different aliases. Moore crafted his plan to escape by using a smuggled smartphone to set up a bogus web domain which looked similar to an official government domain. Moore then use the fake domain to send e-mails claiming that Moore had been granted bail by the Southwark Crown Court. He even registered the name under Scotland Yard Detective Inspector Chris Soole, the person in charge of investigating his case. The domain imitated Her Majesty's Court Service that used hyphens instead of dots. Prison staff failed to spot the subtle difference, and released Moore on March 10, 2014. The prison didn't noticed anything amiss until Moore's solicitor came to the prison and found out his client had already been 'granted bail' three days earlier. However, around the same time, Moore, for reasons unknown, had a change of heart and turned himself in. Moore plead guilty to eight counts of fraud and one count of escape from lawful custody and is scheduled to be sentenced on April 20. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Giant black hole 12 billion times bigger than the sun is baffling scientists

01:24
The discovery of a giant black hole which is growing faster than usual challenges our current theories of black hole expansion. Led by Xue-Bing Wu of China's Peking University, a team of scientists detected a giant black hole they have named SDSS J010013.021280225.8. Though it is not the biggest black hole ever found, it is the biggest one detected in terms of luminosity: 40,000 times more bright than our solar system, the Milky Way, said Avi Loeb, Chair of the Department of Astronomy of Harvard University in an interview with National Geographic. He was not involved in this research. Apart from its size, what is astonishing is that it was formed only 875 million years after the big bang—a relatively short period for a black hole to grow to such a massive size. Scientists are are not certain what accounts for the black hole's rapid development, but one of the possibilities is that two black holes collided when the universe was very young. A black hole starts to form when the core of a dying star loses nuclear fuel, allowing gravity to overcome outward pressure. The core explodes and the star becomes a supernova. The black hole has such a powerful gravitational pull that nothing, including light, can escape. Yet, scientists can detect the existence of black holes from their quasars, a glow of radiating gas and matter. The black hole also absorbs other stars in its vicinity. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Seed bomb drones: UK-based start-up to plant one billion trees in one year using drones

01:09
Oxford-based start-up Biocarbon Engineering is planning to fight industrial deforestation by planting 1 billion trees a year using drones. Currently, 26 billions trees are cut down every year, while only 15 billions are replanted. The drones used by Biocarbon Engineering could solve the problem by making tree planting faster and cheaper. In a video made by the company, Biocarbon Engineering explains that the drones would first fly above a selected area, map its level of deforestation and report back its potential for reforestation. Then, automated planting drones carrying seed pods would fly one to two metres above the ground, following a pre-determined planting pattern, and fire germinated seeds into the soil. A small pressurized canister would provide the necessary propulsive force for the seed pods to easily penetrate the soil surface. The seed pods, filled with nutritious hydrogel to reduce the force of the seed’s impact with the soil, would then break open upon impact and allow the germinated seeds to grow. According to the Independent, one drone is able to plant 10 seeds per minute. With two operators controlling multiple drones, 36,000 trees could be planted in a single day. Biocarbon Engineering hopes to have the system fully working by the end of the summer. According to the Independent, the drone system is not as good as hand-sowing, but it’s much quicker and less expensive than traditional planting systems. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Scientists shocked to find 1000-year-old mummy inside ancient Chinese Buddha statue

01:14
A CT-scan of an ancient Buddha statue has led to the unique discovery of a mummified Chinese monk, dating back to the 11th century and preserved in the same position as its exterior statue. The Buddha statue, which was on display at the Drents Museum in Assen Netherlands, was analyzed at the Meander Medical Center in Amersfoort. A team of scientists and doctors tested the statue using CT-scan imaging and an endoscope. Amsterdam resident Erik Bruijn headed the project, according to the NL Times online. The mummified body has been identified as Master Liuquan, a Buddhist monk who likely practiced Sokushinbutsu, or self-mummification. Radiologist Ben Heggelman took bone samples to confirm the mummy’s identification with DNA testing. Mall cop murders young woman who spurned his creepy advances in Iowa City - TomoNews

01:48
IOWA CITY, IOWA — A 20-year-old woman just days shy of her 21st birthday was murdered inside the Coral Ridge Mall in Iowa City on Friday night by one of the mall's security guards. Andrea Farrington worked at the Iowa Children's Museum located inside the mall and reportedly described her work as "her dream job." Also employed by the mall was 22-year-old Alex Kozak, a married man with a love of firearms and a Facebook page featuring pages of pro-gun sentiments. Despite being married, Alex apparently took a liking to Andrea. Her friends said he would hang around near the museum and stare at her as well as harass her in other ways such as by placing notes on her car window. It's unclear if Andrea specifically spurned his advances or if he came to the conclusion that he had been rejected, but at around 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Alex entered the mall with a 9mm Glock handgun and fired three shots into Andrea's back. The young woman, described as kind, energetic and full of enthusiasm, died a short time later. Alex Kozak fled in his vehicle but was picked up by police roughly 50 miles from the scene. He's been charged with first-degree murder and remains behind bars after bail was set at US$10 million. The state of Iowa does not have the death penalty, but should Kozak be convicted, he could spend the rest of his life behind bars. Friends and family are mourning Andrea Farrington, and the Iowa Children's Museum says it will dedicate an exhibit in honor of the slain young woman. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Hot car death: Man and his dog die trapped inside parked 2007 Chevy Corvette - TomoNews

01:48
PORT ARTHUR, TEXAS — An elderly Texas man and his dog died of apparent heat exhaustion Monday afternoon after an electronic malfunction left them trapped inside the vehicle amid sweltering heat. James Rogers, 72, and his dog Leia got trapped inside his 2007 Corvette Monday afternoon in a Waffle House parking lot, KHOU reports. When the pair got inside the sports car, Port Arthur police believe a battery cable somehow came loose, not only preventing the car from starting, but also from allowing Rogers to open its electric-powered doors, trapping them both inside. Rogers was not able to call anyone for help because he had accidentally left his cell phone in the restaurant. M.J. Ponsegrau, another Waffle House regular, made his way to the parking lot and tried to unlock the doors with little success. Ponsegrau told KHOU the two had already succumbed to heat exhaustion by the time he and others arrived to help. Firefighters were later forced to break the window open to get Rogers and Leia out of the Corvette. Port Arthur police believe heat exhaustion killed the pair. The fact that her father's dream car was what ultimately took his life away was truly heartbreaking, Tricia Hernandez, Rogers' daughter told KHOU. James Rogers is survived by three children and five grandchildren. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Singapore's Math Olympiad problem confuses everyone

01:58
A logical reasoning question for 14-year-olds in the Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad has gone viral after a TV presenter posted it on Facebook, leaving many people across the globe stumped. The mind-boggling question states that two boys, Albert and Bernard, became friends with a girl called Cheryl and wanted to know her birthday. Cheryl gave them ten possible dates, including May 15, May 16, May 19, June 17, June 18, July 14, July 16, August 14, August 15 and August 17. Then, she told Albert and Bernard the month and day of her birthday respectively. The question continues and states that Albert is not sure about her birthday yet but certain that Bernard, who was told the day, does not know either. From this, it is possible to eliminate the two unique dates, May 19 and June 18. If Cheryl had told Albert her birthday was in May or June then these two dates would still be valid. But Albert knows that Bernard does not know her birthday so this means she must have told Albert that the month is either July or August. Bernard then says he has deducted the answer from the five remaining dates. It is impossible that the day of Cheryl’s birthday is 14 because if this was the case, there would be two possible dates, July 14 and August 14, and Bernard would not be able to ascertain the answer. So, only three possible dates, July 16, August 15 and August 16 are left. Albert also obtains the answer after these clues. Since he only knows the month of Cheryl’s birthday, the answer must be July 16. If Cheryl told Albert she was born in August, Albert could not have deducted the answer because there would still be two possible dates. Henry Ong, executive director of the Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad, said the birthday question is a difficult one that aims to sift out the most intelligent students. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Giant sinkhole swallows street and drunk driver who failed to see the warning signs - TomoNews

01:20
HSINCHU, TAIWAN - In Taiwan, a construction site for a large building suffered a sinkhole, which ripped down part of a main street. The sinkhole dropped 60 feet off the street into the construction site below. An investigation was still underway as to the cause of the collapse and the street had been cordoned off until further notice. However, late one evening a 46 year old father was riding his scooter along with his 6 year old son. Nearby pedestrians attempted to warn the man of the sinkhole, but he sped past them, and dived straight into the nearly 2 storey hole. Witnesses immediately called for emergency services and police. The scooter had landed on the head of the 6 year old boy and he was rushed to hospital in critical condition. The father suffered minor injuries and had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.81. Police arrested the man for driving under the influence. The construction site investigation revealed that the construction company had failed to follow regulations in regards to support structures, and the lack of structural support lead to the collapse. The construction crew and the architect in charge of overseeing the site will each be fined USD $1000 each. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Idiot Abroad: Unruly British expat berates Singapore man over F--ing t-shirt - TomoNews

01:54
And it’s a realization which came slightly too late to this expat commuter who harassed a young man on the Singapore subway. The expat targeted the young man for his t-shirt, which read “I’m so f---ing special.” The aggressor, who speaks with a British accent, demands the young man get off the train, until a bystander, whose name is either Loony or Elfy, bravely steps in and calls the jerk out. When the police show up, our unnamed antagonist realizes that, like an outbreak of crabs, people kind of really want him gone, and he gets off the train. But being a terrible person doesn’t end there, because he continues to complain to the police about the t-shirt. Elfy/Loony has kept up his everyday-hero routine, posting on his Facebook that people shouldn’t stoop to race baiting the aggressor in the wake of the incident. No information has emerged about the belligerent, and although he looks old enough to miss the British Raj, Winston Churchill he definitely isn’t, so maybe he should just shut the hell up. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Exploding hoverboard burns family's house down in Louisiana - TomoNews

01:20
LAFITTE, LOUISIANA — A hoverboard that was plugged in to charge the battery exploded and set fire to a family's house in Lafitte, Louisiana, WGNO reported. On November 20, Hayden Horne, 12, opened his birthday present and was delighted to try out his new hoverboard that his mother, Jessica Horne, bought on Amazon from a company called Fit Turbo. He rode it around, but when it ran out of battery power the next day, he plugged it in using the charger that came with it. His mother walked by the boy's room only to see the hoverboard spark and catch fire in seconds. According to the GoFundMe page Horne started to help out with expenses related to the fire, she wrote that within minutes the whole room was on fire. Horne also wrote about the incident on Facebook, saying the firefighters responded to the blaze in minutes and rescued her dog, which was trapped inside. The use of hoverboards in public has been banned in New York City and in London. According to a CNN report, nearly 90 percent of the hoverboards imported into Britain have been recalled because of the risk of explosion or electrocution. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Osama Bin Laden death: Seymour Hersh says what the White House says is 'one big lie'

03:41
Investigative journalist Seymour Hersh has published a 10,000-word story on the 2011 killing of al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden that differs starkly with the official version of events. Among the main assertions in the report from Seymour Hersh is that the U.S. learned of Bin Laden's whereabouts from a walk-in to the CIA station at the U.S. embassy in Islamabad. Hersh states that in August of 2010, a former senior Pakistani intelligence officer offered the information in exchange for the $25 million dollar reward the U.S. posted in 2001. U.S. and Pakistan intelligence officials originally agreed to concoct a story that Osama bin Laden had been killed in a drone strike on the Afghanistan side of the border. The plan was to announce the killing one week after the raid and report that DNA gathered from the drone strike confirmed the killing. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Man lets special needs person hold hand on bus: Cuotto's act of kindness goes viral - TomoNews

01:01
HAMILTON, CANADA — A college student in Ontario who let a stranger with special needs hold his hand on the bus has since gone viral. Godfrey Cuotto, 21, was photographed holding hands with a man named Robert, who has special needs, on a public bus earlier last week. The picture was later posted onto the Facebook page "Only In Hamilton" by a stranger and has since gone viral. Cuotto was on his way home from a burrito place downtown when he got onto the packed bus, and man sitting close to the front wanted a handshake. The McMaster student said he was a bit surprised, but he shook Robert's hand. "He kept holding my hand," Cuotto said. "I thought I was getting pranked at first, but he just needed comfort." Over half hour bus ride, Cuotto said Robert held his hand, leaned on him, hugged him and also kissed his hands during the ride. "I just allowed it, like what am I going to do?" Cuotto said. "Sometimes you just have to be selfless and put someone else's needs above yours." Someone from Robert's family got in touch with Cuotto through Facebook and thanked him for being their for his uncle. They told him Robert suffered from cerebral palsy and was deaf. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. 360 Video - Take a ride on Elon Musk’s Hyperloop

01:29
Billionaire philanthropist Elon Musk hopes to introduce a new form of transportation to compete with planes and trains. The new technology, called Hyperloop, would consist of a tube with Concorde-like seating inside able to send passengers at 760 miles an hour on a cushion of compressed air. The tubes would be launched by a rail gun type launcher. The tube would shoot through an elevated structure with pods mounted above the ground on columns 50 to 100 yards (45 to 91 metres) apart or through an underground tunnel, using a maglev like system, like the "floating force" of an air hockey table. A proposed line from Los Angeles to San Francisco would cost $7.5 billion to build. The tubes would be at least three times faster than a bullet train and twice as fast as an airplane. Powered by solar technology, the transport would also be cheaper than conventional methods. The 'Hyperloop', designed to link cities less than 1,000 miles apart, could cover the distance between Los Angeles and San Francisco in about 35 minutes. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Firefighter shooting: Bloods gang leader killed in police standoff, came out guns blazing - TomoNews

01:23
NEW YORK — 38-year-old Garland Tyree, reported to have been a high ranking member of the Bloods-affiliated 9 Trey gang in New York City, was killed in a shootout with police, ending a six-hour standoff that began after he shot a fireman. Police and fire officials say a U.S. Marshals regional task force, with NYPD detectives, was to arrest Garland Tyree on federal parole violation charges early Friday. When police arrived at the entrance to his girlfriend's basement apartment in Staten Island, Tyree ignited a commercial grade smoke grenade. Fearing a fire, police called the New York City fire department. One firefighter, 54-year-old Lt. James Hayes, entered the basement apartment, where Tyree fired four shots from an AK-47 type rifle. Hayes, was shot in the buttock and calf, but managed to escape. NYPD tactical units and US Marshals then surrounded the house, commencing a six-hour standoff. During negotiations, police allowed Tyree's girlfriend and mother to talk to him on the phone, asking him to give himself up. His mother was flown to Staten Island from Delaware on an NYPD helicopter. Tyree also spoke to a reporter for news website DNAinfo.com, and updated his Facebook page, posting the words "Today I die". After telling his mother he would surrender, Tyree exited the house wearing body armor, and firing multiple shots from his fully automatic rifle. Police fired back, killing Tyree. Inside the apartment, police found three handguns, and an additional 75-round magazine for the AK-47 type rifle. Garland Tyree had been in and out of jail since the age of 16. The news website DNAinfo reports that, in 2002, Tyree was identified by the FBI as having the rank of "Godfather" in the 9 Trey gang. He was most recently released from prison in July 2014, but was suspected of having used cocaine and associating with known gang members, in violation of his probation. US Marshals and NYPD were attempting to arrest Tyree for those infractions on Friday, before the standoff started. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets.
