Park Ji-Young, a 22-year-old crew member and cafeteria worker, was on duty that day. Most of the ship's passengers were with her in the ship's third-deck recreation area. The person at the helm was an inexperienced 26-year-old third mate named Park Hyun-kul. This was her first time navigating this route. Meanwhile, captain Lee Joon-seok had gone back to his quarters when disaster struck. Terrified students recalled how Park helped them find their way to safety as the ship began to sink, telling them to head for the the fourth deck. As the ferry rapidly took on water, captain Lee told passengers to stay where they were. Trusting the crew, many passengers heeded the advice and waited for rescue even as the water rose. But Park gathered life jackets for the high schoolers and got many of them to rescue boats. They pleaded for her to join them. "After saving you, I will get out ... the crew goes out last," Park told them, not keeping a life jacket for herself. Meanwhile Captain Lee and the young woman piloting the ferry scuttled themselves of the doomed ship onto the safety of rescue boats. Park went back inside. There were still nearly 300 people who hadn't found a way out. But it was too late. The ship took less than two hours to fully capsize. Those people remain trapped. Authorities believe most have either drowned or suffocated. Rescue crews pulled whoever they could from the water, dead or alive. Ji Young Park was found floating face down. She was dead. Four of the ship's crew including the captain Lee and the third mate are under arrest and will face charges for failing to help passengers. A doctor at the rescue base says the captain identified himself as a passenger after his rescue. Hoping that Park Ji-Young's name is remembered long after Lee's is forgotten, some South Korean web users are asking the government to allow Park to be burried in the National Cemetery, a place normally reserved for past presidents and war heroes. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Boy lives in Texas Walmart for two days: Runaway teen makes store his home

01:33
A 14-year-old boy constructed two secret compounds inside a 24-hour Walmart in Corsicana, Texas, where he lived undetected for two-and-a-half days. His sleeping quarters consisted of a makeshift bed built behind boxes of baby strollers. He stole food from the store, stored supplies behind a wall of baby wipes and paper towels and used diapers to avoid detection when going to the bathroom. A crack in the wall provided backside access to the juice aisle. He even scored a pet fish to keep him company. The natural master of disguise changed clothes every few hours to throw off anyone who might be tailing him. Eventually, Walmart staff followed a trail of trash leading to the boy’s hideout and busted the runaway teen. Employees called police, who delivered the boy into the custody of relatives. No criminal charges have been filed. According to Corsicana police, the boy ran away from his aunt’s home. His mother, who was out of town, told police the boy has a history of running away. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Boy hero saves six from fire, dies

01:46
Eight-year-old Tyler Doohan is being hailed as a true hero by residents in Penfield, New York after the 4th grader lost his life in a fire while saving six people. Knowing that Monday was a national holiday, Tyler asked his mom if he could spend Sunday night at his grandfather's trailer home in Penfield, New York. Grandpa's home was a favorite place for Tyler, who enjoyed barbecuing and bonfires with his relatives, who lived there as well, as well as playing with the neighborhood kids. But at around 4:30 a.m., Tyler woke to find the trailer filling with smoke. He quickly woke up two of his cousins who were also staying over. Tyler also managed to wake up his grandmother, aunt and two other adults in the trailer before ushering them to safety. After rescuing the lives of six people, Tyler discovered that his grandfather and disabled uncle has not yet escaped. He bravely charged back into the burning trailer to rescue them, but he never returned. Firefighters later found three bodies in the trailer, and a spokesperson for the Penfield fire department said that without the boy's heroic actions, more lives would most certainly have been lost. The principal at the school Tyler attended said the boy's actions were not out of character as he was known for his kindness and "good heart." The boy lived with his mom in Rochester, New York, and residents there say Tyler Doohan is beyond question a hero and an example to the whole town. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but there is speculation that an electrical device in the front of the trailer may have caused the blaze. Questions are also being raised as to why so many people were living in the trailer, which was described as "beat up and old." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Yeonmi Park’s story: Escapee from North Korea speaks out

02:02
Meet Yeonmi Park. At 21 she looks like a typical university student enjoying the perks of living in Seoul, South Korea’s ultra-modern capital city. It’s hard to believe that she was actually born and grew up in a small port village in North Korea, along the river that defines the border between the North and it’s largest neighbor, China. Today Yeonmi is an outspoken activist, telling her family’s story about their harrowing escape from North Korea, ruled by one of the world’s most reclusive and repressive regimes. At a young age Yeonmi was indoctrinated with North Korean ideology, where Kim Jong-il and his family are treated as gods and any dissent is punished with prison and torture. The government tightly controls everything and limits citizens’ access to the outside world. When Yeonmi was just 13 years old she was invited to watch the execution of her best friend’s mother. The woman had been arrested for watching South Korean movies and sharing the DVDs with friends. She along with several others were executed by firing squad for their crime. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Shigeharu Shimamura teams up with GE to grow lettuce indoors faster, cleaner and cheaper

01:59
A 2300 square meter former semiconductor plant has become the world's largest indoor vegetable farm, thanks to Shigeru Shimamura and special LED lights from General Electric. The farm produces 10,000 heads of lettuce per day all while using less than 1% of the water needed for a normal farm, and none of the weather or pest related risks that come with growing outdoors. Produce waste is also slashed from 50 to just 10% as well. Shimamura's indoor farming company, Mirai, has partnered with GE and is looking to set up similar operations in locations around the world, starting with Hong Kong and Russia. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. ‘Shopping while black’: Racial profiling caught on tape, Rashid Polo viral Vine video

01:43
Rashid Polo, of Rochester, Minnesota, is an overnight internet celebrity whose recent Vine videos are shedding light on a sensitive topic … shopping while black. While shopping at a convenience store back in February, Polo noticed a pattern developing. No matter where he went in the store, a suspicious attendant always seemed to follow. As she busied herself with random tasks, she cast vilifying stares at Polo, who eventually had enough. He whipped out his cell phone and began recording. If you’re saying to yourself right now that racial shopping discrimination doesn’t exist, chances are, you’re a white person. Barney’s New York, to give just one example, has repeatedly been accused of mistreating black shoppers. In the case of 19-year-old Trayon Christian, undercover police officers arrested him when he walked out of Barneys with a $350 belt, despite having shown them proof of purchase. Even Oprah can’t avoid racial profiling. Last year, a Swiss clerk refused to show the media mogul a handbag, saying it would “cost to much.” Polo’s second “shopping while black” Vine video has garnered 14 million loops in a little over a week and attracted more than 15,000 followers so far. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. South Korean ferry disaster: Hundreds still missing in Sewol sinking

02:33
Check out our official website: http://us.tomonews.net/ Check out our Android app: http://goo.gl/PtT6VD Check out our iOS app: http://bit.ly/1gO3z1f ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Rescuers and families of those aboard the stricken South Korean car and passenger ferry that sank off the country's southwest coast on Wednesday haven't given up hope of finding more people alive among the hundreds unaccounted for. The Sewol ran into trouble during the 14-hour journey from Incheon to the southern resort island of Jeju early Wednesday morning. About four hours from its destination, the ship was sailing in thick fog, which may have obscured the crew's vision. At 8.30 a.m. it appears as though the ship it struck a large rock, puncturing its hull. Passengers described hearing a loud sound on impact and a experiencing sharp jolt. The ship tilted suddenly, causing luggage to fall from overhead storage shelves. Many people jumped into the frigid water as they realized the ferry was sinking. The crew sent out a distress signal and nearby ships responded. But survivors say a message broadcast over the ship's PA system telling people to stay in place may have worsened the situation. One passenger said that even as water inside the ship began to rise they were told not to move. Others were rescued by fishing boats and military ships with helicopters which raced to the scene. Once the Sewol began taking on water it took just two hours to fully capsize. In the panic and chaos, one highschooler identified only by her last name, Shin, texted her father: "Dad, don't worry. I've got a life jacket on and we're huddled together." Her father replied "I know the rescue has begun but make your way out if you can." Shin wrote back, "Dad I can't walk out, the corridor is full of kids and it's too tilted." Shin's name is not among the list of people rescued. Witnesses say many people might still be alive, trapped within the upturned ferry. But it lies in 30m deep water. The water is murky, reducing visibility to less than half a meter, hampering the rescue. What's more, people likely trapped in air pockets must deal with the icy water, which can cause hypothermia in as little as 90 minutes. Rescue teams earlier hammered on the ship's hull hoping for a response from trapped survivors, and divers have taken to the water ... but hope is fading. The Sewol has a capacity of 912 people. 475 passengers and crew were aboard, including 324 high schoolers on a field trip. When disaster struck, many of those people were gathered in the Sewol's entertainment center, on the third floor of the five-deck ship. When it capsized the third deck was fully submerged. It's believed a power outage soon after would have left many of them in darkness. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Home defense: Grandpa shoots three suspects, foils home invasion and attempted rape

01:27
Kenneth Byrd shot three home invaders on Monday night after they forced their way into his home and attempted to rape his 19-year-old granddaughter. Byrd was also struck by gunfire from the suspects in his home on Yedda Road in Lumberton, North Carolina. When the Byrd family answered a knock at the door around 10 p.m. three men in ski masks forced their way in. The criminals held the grandparents at gunpoint and directed them to open a safe. The thugs also attempted to rape the Byrd’s 19-year-old granddaughter but gramps wasn’t having that. Byrd managed to grab a handgun of his own and put holes in all three intruders. The suspects returned fire, striking the grandfather multiple times before fleeing in Byrd’s gold Cadillac. One of the suspects died from grandpa’s gunshots. The wounded criminals then abandoned their partner on their way to McLeod Hospital in Dillon where they were treated for their injuries. If Brandon Stephens, 28, and Jamar Hawkins, 17, survive, they face a string of felony charges possibly including capital murder for the death of 20-year-old Jamie Faison. Sherri Bridgeman, a friend of the Byrd family wrote on her Facebook page that grandfather Kenneth was listed in critical condition. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Panama canal expansion: how it works

01:24
The expansion of the Panama Canal will not be ready for its 100th anniversary on August 15 as initially hoped by canal authorities. Aimed now to be completed by June 2015, the project was proposed in 2006, began in 2007 and has cost so far US$ 6.5 billion, Newsweek reported. Connecting the Atlantic Ocean with the Pacific Ocean, the canal currently uses locks in which water flows by gravity and raises ships 26 metres (85 feet) above sea level. Ships can then travel through artificial lakes and channels until they reach another set of locks leading to the sea on the other side. The expansion of the canal will feature new sets of locks that will allow the 81-km-long channel to accommodate even bigger vessels. The new locks will be larger but use less water than the existing ones. Basins next to them will recycle water from the locks as they are emptied, and use this water to partially refill the locks when another ship passes through. Water from the canal’s lakes will also be used to fill the new locks. The new locks will be able to handle ships that are longer, taller and wider. Per-ship cargo capacity will nearly triple, from the current roughly 4,500 standard-container limit to roughly 12,000 standard containers. These changes will make the Panama Canal more competitive with the alternative Suez Canal route, which can currently accommodate much larger ships The Panama began operating in in 1914. It cost about US$420 million and took 40 years to complete. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Officials can't prove what was in the treats since all the evidence was eaten. However, at least one of the victims stayed home from school ill after having a bad reaction to the concoction. Police are treating this as a simple school prank, and the school has now banned all outside food. Indian boy Ashik Gavai has 232 teeth removed in JJ Hospital, Mumbai

01:38
A 17-year-old Indian boy had 232 teeth surgically removed in Mumbai this week. The number of excess teeth, or odontoma, he had reportedly set a new world record. According to reports in Indian media, Ashik Gavai had been complaining about a severe toothache for 18 months. The toothache eventually led to a tumor-like swelling on his lower right jaw. The boy lives in a rural village in Buldhana district in the Amravati region with his family. His father feared that his tumor may have been cancerous, but as local dentists couldn’t give him a proper diagnosis, the worried parent brought Ashki to JJ Hospital in Mumbai. There, Ashik was diagnosed with complex composite odontoma. Composite odontomas are benign tooth-like tumors that have both the enamel and dentin — the two major layers of the tooth — but are arranged in an abnormal pattern. A team of dentists lead by the head of JJ Hospital’s dental unit, Sunanda Dhiware, performed a seven-hour operation on the teenager on July 22 and successfully removed 232 extra teeth from his mouth. Dhiware told the BBC that, "At first, we couldn't cut [the odontoma] out so we had to use the basic chisel and hammer to take it out.” She added: “Once we opened it, little pearl-like teeth started coming out, one-by-one.” The boy now has 28 teeth. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. The footage captures the last moments inside the vessel before the ship capsized. Of the 325 high school students aboard the vessel that sank on April 15, more than 300 people died or is still missing. In the video, the students start out laughing and joking with each other, not yet knowing the severity of the situation. They are seen huddled below deck, wondering if they'll make the news and discussing what they should do. However, concern grows as the listing becomes worse. In the video, a voice over the loudspeaker repeats a warning for passengers to stay where they are at least three times, even as the boat begins to tilt even more and it becomes improbable for the students to leave their cabins. The video was taken on the cell phone of 17-year-old student Park Su-hyeon, when rescuers recovered his body. The boy's father, Park Jong-dae, provided it to the media, saying he wanted to show the world the ship's condition as it sank. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Flappy Bird killed; creator pulls game from Internet

01:37
Flappy Bird, the simple, but maddeningly difficult mobile phone game, was permanently taken down by its creator, Dong Nguyen, on Sunday. The Vietnamese designer said the rapid success of the game 'ruined' his 'peaceful life', making him hate his own creation. Nguyen, who has made a number of simple games for mobile phones, launched Flappy Bird in May. It took off in December, garnering a total of 50 million downloads, and generating $50,000 a day in advertising, at the peak of its popularity. The game is very simple. Players must safely guide a small bird through the narrow spaces of a series of staggered pipes. Any bumps or misses will kill it, sending the player to start again. Despite its popularity and financial reward, Nguyen said he removed the game from all of its online platforms, including iTurnes and the Google Play store. Users who had previously downloaded the game can continue to play it, though it will no longer be available to new consumers. Reports have offered a number of reasons why Nguyen may have taken down the game, despite his claims that it disrupted his personal peace. The bird flies through pipes that are very similar to those seen in Nintendo's Super Mario Brothers, leading some to believe that the Japanese game maker might have put pressure on Nguyen. Others suspect the success of the game may have initially relied on the use of bots to boost early downloads. Some observers, such as blogger Robert Scoble, believe the move is a marketing ploy to increase publicity for future releases. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Revenge is sweet: Afghan mother kills 25 Taliban fighters who killed her police officer son

01:15
An Afghan mother, identified in local reports as Reza Gul, discovered the body of her murdered son, a police officer who had been guarding a checkpoint. This brave mom decided to get revenge. Reza Gul returned to her house, grabbed a weapon and committed herself to killing as many of her son’s killers as she could. Reza Gul was then joined by her daughter, young son and husband, and this heroic family took up positions and girded themselves for battle. As the militants returned, they were met with a hail of gunfire in battle that lasted several hours. The mother, father and elder sister all shot and killed Taliban fighters while the young son re-loaded the guns. At the end of day, the family says they mowed down 25 Taliban and vowed to do so again should they ever return. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Kowloon Walled City: a 3D model of the densest place of earth

Check out our official website: http://us.tomonews.net/ Check out our Android app: http://goo.gl/PtT6VD Check out our iOS app: http://bit.ly/1gO3z1f ------------------------------------------------------------- April 2014 marks the 20th anniversary of the completion of the demolition of the Kowloon Walled City, a largely ungoverned slum that was once considered the densest settlement on Earth. The city, a unique urban experiment, housed about 50,000 people in just 300 buildings, which were crammed together into a living space that followed its own set of laws. Governed by the Chinese mafia known as 'the Triads', the city became famous in the 1980s for its brothels, casinos and opium dens. Living conditions were squalid, with cramped and dirty spaces, no direct sunlight, patchy or non-existent electricity, and no garbage collection. Nevertheless, the city's population grew fivefold in just 40 years, from 10,000 after World War II, reaching 50,000 people by 1990. Rent was cheap, with an average of just HKD35 a month (about US$4 today) and no taxes were charged or paid. It was therefore very attractive for doctors and dentists and manufacturers who could practice without licenses, or people who could not afford to live elsewhere. The city's unique political status and anarchic conditions, however, made it an embarrassment for the British government, who after a difficult eviction process, started tearing it down in 1993. The demolition ended in April 1994. A year later, the place was transformed into a Qing Dynasty style garden. This animation recreates the historical process that lead to the creation of this fascinating city, and eventually to its disappearance. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. First artificial heart implant offers new hope to patients with heart diseases

01:40
Originally published on December 30, 2013 An artificial heart created by French biomedical firm Carmat that is designed last to up to five years was implanted for the first time on December 18 in a 75-year-old patient who, according to doctors, is progressing well. Until now, the longest a patient has lived with an artificial heart is just under four years. The new heart developed by Carmat is designed to replace a patient's real heart, or at least provide a longer bridge of time while the patient waits for a heart transplant. The Carmat artificial heart's shape and size are similar to those of a natural heart. It has two ventricles and four valves that can reproduce the pulsatile flow of blood circulation and accelerate and reduce cardiac rhythm in according to the level of effort being exerted by the patient. It is made from chemically treated animal tissue to lessen the risk of blood clots and rejection by the immune system. To power the heart Carmat uses two external lithium-ion batteries connected to electric wires behind the left ear and linked to the heart through under-the-skin wires. The system is portable, allowing the patient to return home by carrying it on a trolley or on his shoulders. Nearly 100,000 people in Europe and the U.S. are in need of a heart transplant, according to Carmat. Men are more likely to be implanted with Carmat's artificial heart, as heart failure affects more men than women, and the device is sized such that it can fit in 86 percent of men but only roughly 20 percent of women, according to a Reuters report. A U.S. rival to Carmat, an artificial heart called AbioCor, is authorised in the U.S. for patients with end-stage heart failure or who have a life expectancy of less than 30 days, are not eligible for a natural heart plant and have no other viable treatment options. -------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Teen girl stabs mother over Slenderman obsession in Hamilton, Ohio

01:20
Slenderman stabbing: http://bit.ly/1mAWgwZ Slenderman meme explained: http://bit.ly/1pzmOCK ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ For the second time in a little over a week, Slenderman is being blamed for inspiring an attempted murder after a woman was attacked by her 13-year-old daughter in Hamilton, Ohio. The victim knew her daughter had mental health problems but never imagined her own child would attempt to harm her. She said her daughter's writing had been getting darker and darker, and contained references to the fictional character, Slenderman. "I came home one night from work and she was in the kitchen waiting for me and she was wearing a mask — a white mask," she said. "She had her hood up and had her hands covered with her sleeves and the mask." The 13-year-old injured her mother's face, neck, and back in the stabbing. "She was someone else during that attack," said the mother. Authorities say the teenager, who is currently in a juvenile detention center, says she does not recall what happened the night she stabbed her mother. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. NYC stripper credit card scam: $200,000 stolen from rich clients, drugged up and blackmailed

01:34
Four women and a New York strip-club owner are accused of drugging up rich men and running up almost $200,000 in credit card charges while they were passed out. Samantha Barbush, Marsi Rosen, Roselyn Keo, Karina Pascucci and Carmine Vitolo appeared in Manhattan Supreme Court on Wednesday on charges of conspiracy, assault, forgery and grand larceny. The women would hit up lounge bars, fishing for worthy targets — rich, lonely men. Then they would entice their victims into having a little extra fun with them, often times without their knowledge. The men, drugged up on ketamine, molly or other body-rocking substances, would then be escorted to a gentleman's club: often times, it was Roundhouse in Queens or Scores in Manhattan. The men would be taken to private rooms where their party would soon be over. But, for the women, the fun had just begun. With the help of the club owner, the dancers would then run up insane charges on the victim's credit cards and forge the cardholders' signatures. Dr. Zyad Younan, a cardiologist at Johnson University Hospital, was allegedly taken for $135,000. The victims would wake up the next day in random places with incriminating text messages sent to them as blackmail. Investigators have identified four victims dating back to September last year but believe other marks have yet to come forward. -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Please watch: "Crying dog breaks the internet’s heart — but this sad dog story has a happy ending" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4prKTN9bYQc -~-~~-~~~-~~-~-

Video of Vietnamese tourist on his knees begging for refund from Singapore scammers goes viral

01:27
A Vietnamese tourist who tried to buy a phone for his girlfriend while visiting Singapore as a tourist got trapped in a scam run by an unscrupulous cell phone shop owner that has tarnished Singapore’s “clean” reputation. The scam works like this: The customer, usually a tourist, buys a phone for a reasonable price. Then the shop has the customer sign an “agreement,” usually in English. Finally, after the victim’s credit card has been swiped, the victim notices there’s an extra S$1,500 charge, which is explained as the cost of the “warranty.” When the customer complains, the shop owner goes gangster and threatens him or her by saying “You signed this. You are on camera as having signed it. No refunds, lah!” Pham Van Thoai, a Vietnamese tourist who had this scam pulled on him, is a factory worker who said he makes just US$200 a month. Pham, 28, became so distraught he broke down in tears and actually got down on his knees and begged the shop to refund his purchase. The owner mocked him in a scene caught on video. The sad video of the tourist begging went viral, prompting Singaporeans to raise funds to cover the man’s losses. What’s more, the name and address of the unscrupulous salesman — a Mr. Jover Chow who lives on Henderson Road — was posted on the web alongside some less-than-flattering pics of the scammer. The Singapore Straits Times reported that, as of 9 a.m. on Thursday, Singaporeans had raised S$12,938 (US$10,000) for Pham, and that Pham has refused to accept the money. “I lost US$550. So I will accept only US$550 donated by kind people. Nothing more. I’m grateful for all your kindness but I do not want to take more than what I’ve lost,” he told the Chinese-language Lianhe Zaobao newspaper. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Florida judge tells public defender "I'll beat your ass" ... fight ensues

01:45
A disagreement between a Florida judge and an attorney turned physical this week. Judge John Murphy, a retired military officer, lost his temper and allegedly punched assistant public defender Andrew Weinstock in a courthouse scuffle on Monday. It all began with a verbal confrontation which was captured on the courtroom camera and shared by local media outlets. "You know if I had a rock, I would throw it at you right now," Murphy is heard saying in the video. "Stop pissing me off. Just sit down, I'll take care of it," the judge said, but Weinstock refused to back down. That's when the judge decided to take matters into his own hands...literally. "If you want to fight, let's go out back and I'll just beat your ass," Murphy tells Weinstock. The two men then exit the courtroom, and that's when things got ugly. Murphy allegedly grabbed Weinstock by the collar and started punching him in the head, the public defenders office told local media. Deputies had to intervene to break up the scuffle. Murphy returned to the courtroom where he was greeted with a round of applause from the audience, who heard the entire altercation unfold. Weinstock reportedly decided not to press charges, but the incident was reported to the Florida Bar Association and Judge Murphy has taken a leave of absence and has agreed to take part in anger management counseling. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Teen arrested after rooftopping at 1 World Trade Center

01:22
A 16-year-old New Jersey boy was arrested for criminal trespass after breaking into the construction site of 1 World Trade Center and climbing up to the top of the building early Sunday morning in New York. Justin Casquejo of Weehawken managed to evade security and climb to the spire of the Freedom Tower, spending more than a hour on the building. Casquejo, who is a parkour enthusiast and no stranger to scaling tall buildings, wriggled through a foot-wide hole in the fence around the site. He got to the sixth floor through the scaffolding, then took an elevator to the 88th floor. From there, he took the stairs to the 104th floor where he slipped past a sleeping security guard. From the rooftop he made his way to the spire on a ladder. At the top of the building, he took photographs, then eventually worked his way back down. He was arrested on his way out at about 6 a.m. and was later charged with one count of criminal trespass in the third degree and one count of trespass. He was released without bail. Casquejo's stunt called into question the effectiveness of the building's security system. The completed building will have a system estimated to cost $40 million. The security guard who let Casquejo get by has been fired. -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Please watch: "Crying dog breaks the internet’s heart — but this sad dog story has a happy ending" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4prKTN9bYQc -~-~~-~~~-~~-~-

Robbery fail: Armed man makes hilarious attempted convenience store hold up in Bendigo, Australia

01:05
Calling bullsh*t on someone who has a gun pointed at your head isn't normally the best move. But that's what one ballsy Australian shop clerk did when a masked man strode into his store and demanded money. This crook's plan to rob a convenience store in the small town of Bendigo in Australia didn't quite go to plan. The store's security camera captured it all: It began looking good for the masked idiot; he walked to an empty store. But moments later night shift clerk Steve Ewart returned back to his post, looking cool as ice after just six weeks on the job. The robber demands he hand over the cash. Unlucky for him, Ewart is a gun enthusiast and instantly recognised the man's weapon. It's a cap gun replica of a design from the 1960s — completely harmless. Ewart tells the masked man "It's not gonna happen", and whatever was said, it clearly didn't take much. Realizing that the jig is up, the intruder is at a loss as to his next move. And Ewart instantly becomes an internet hero. -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Please watch: "Crying dog breaks the internet’s heart — but this sad dog story has a happy ending" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4prKTN9bYQc -~-~~-~~~-~~-~-

Hotel Hell: Expect a £100 charge if you write a bad review of the Broadway Hotel in Blackpool, UK

01:44
It’s an idea Basil Fawlty would approve of: The three-star Broadway Hotel in Blackpool, UK, is trying to prevent bad reviews by slapping guests who have the gall to badmouth the place online with a £100 (US$155) credit card charge. Tony Jenkinson, 63, and his wife Jan recently spent a night at the Broadway, a hotel they later described in a review as a "rotten stinking hovel." What made the place deserve such description? The Jenkins say a chest of drawers fell to pieces when they opened it, the room’s curtains were tattered and filthy, the wallpaper was peeling, and the springs in the double bed mattress gave them an awful night’s sleep. Annoyed is not strong enough to define how the couple felt, says Jan, when they discovered a 100 pound charge on their credit card following their scathing review on TripAdvisor. The couple naturally complained to the Broadway, and was told that every bad online review would earn the person who made the booking a £100 penalty to prevent defamatory claims from disgruntled guests. Hotel management says it’s all there in the fine print, which the couple should have read when they booked their room. The hotel also told them that, and we’re paraphrasing here, for £15 a night, what do you expect? Now the Blackpool Trading Standards is investigating the hotel, which may have breached fair trading regulations with the extra charges. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Air Force, Marines test MALD missile decoy that can mimic radar signatures of F-16s and B-52s

01:55
The U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Air Force announced on Tuesday that they had successfully completed the first flight demonstration of a Miniature Air Launched Decoy Jammer, or MALD-J, with a radio data link at the U.S. Marine Corps Air Station in Yuma, Arizona. The Miniature Air Launched Decoy Jammer, or MALD, program was initiated by the Pentagon’s Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) in 1995 to develop a low-cost decoy missile that could be fired from a variety of aircraft at a safe standoff distance. A contract for MALD was given to Raytheon in 2002, which manufactures the ADM-160B MALD and ADM-160C MALD-J. MALD weighs less than 300 pounds and has a range of approximately 500 nautical miles. It can be launched from a range of aircraft, from a B-52 bomber to an F-16 multirole fighter jet. MALD can autonomously fly a pre-planned route and mimic the radar signatures of other aircraft ranging from large strategic bombers to stealth fighters, or even entire formations of bombers or fighter jets, to mislead enemy defence systems. In battle, a single MALD or flight of MALDs can be used to identify and distract enemy defenses, allowing other aircraft to destroy or evade these defenses. A newer version of MALD, the MALD-J, possesses these decoy functions as well as the ability to spoof and jam enemy electronic systems. MALD-J is equipped with a radio data link and can send situation awareness data to the battle manager, who can use this information to adjust MALD-J’s mission while in flight. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Cops save family from freezing to death after Salvation Army denies them access to homeless shelter

02:32
One Tennessee family is extra thankful this year for the generosity they received from the Johnson City police officers who made it their mission to find the family shelter on one of the coldest nights of the year. Tim Lejeune, along with his wife and three kids, had been living out of their car. On a night where temperatures dipped to 18 degrees, Lejeune turned to the Salvation Army for safe shelter for his family. He noticed they were flying a white flag which signals that the weather is so cold that all are welcome to stay. … Well, almost all. Lejeune’s 15-year-old son was told he wouldn’t be allowed to sleep in the building. The Salvation Army has a policy that boys between the ages of 12 and 16 are not allowed to stay—they’re too old to sleep in the women’s shelter and too vulnerable to sleep in the men’s shelter with potential sex offenders. Police officers’ then became involved in the family’s cause but their efforts to convince the Salvation Army to bend their rules were unsuccessful. Officers AD McElroy, Justin Jenkins, Toma Sparks, Robert McCurry and Washington County-Johnson City 911 dispatchers then pooled together money from their own pockets to pay for a hotel for the the family. When the receptionist at the Johnson Inn realized what the officers were doing, they too joined in the giving spirit. The receptionist comped the room for the family which allowed the officers to spend the money on groceries for the family. The Salvation Army says they are now considering a revision to their age restrictions. Several days after this incident, the Salvation Army filled up the Lejeune’s car with gas. Meanwhile, the Good Samaritan Ministries helped to secure a permanent place for the family to live. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Check out our official website: http://us.tomonews.net/ Check out our Android app: http://goo.gl/PtT6VD Check out our iOS app: http://bit.ly/1gO3z1f ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ A Japanese company plans to build a tsunami survival pod designed for rescue workers who wait until the last minute before evacuating. Tajima Motor Corporation's Tsunami Floating Shelter SAFE+ comes in two sizes that hold 10 or 20 people, respectively. The design was inspired by the March 2011 tsunami that hit Japan and is part of a planned suite of rescue and evacuation systems under the SAFE+ moniker, including amphibious rescue ambulances, planned by company CEO Nobuhiro Tajima. Noting that the pods will most likely not often be used for actual tsunamis, the developers noted that they could also be used as karaoke rooms and first aid booths. The SAFE+ tsunami pod will cost roughly US$44,000 to $48,000 depending on certain options such as an external generator and roof-mounted solar panel. Tajima Motor plans to produce 1,000 units this year. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Scientific Breakthrough! Danish scientists develop substance that stores and releases oxygen

01:15
It might sound like something out a sci-fi film, but the day could soon arrive when oxygen can be obtained by just a few grains of a newly developed material. Scientists in Denmark announced they have developed a substance that absorbs, stores and releases huge amounts of oxygen. The substance is so effective that just a few grains are capable of storing enough oxygen for a single human breath while a bucket full of the new material could capture an entire room of O2. With the new material there are hopes those requiring medical oxygen might soon be freed from carrying bulky tanks, while SCUBA divers might also be able to use the material to absorb oxygen from water, allowing them to stay submerged for significantly longer. The substance was developed by tinkering with the molecular structure of cobalt, a chemical element that when found in meteoric iron, resembles a silver-gray metal. Scientists are hailing the breakthrough, but it could be many years before viable commercial uses of the new substance become available. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Ohio senior accidently shoots wife, saving her life

01:10
You’d never imagine shooting someone would somehow save their lives, but in a magical land called Ohio, it actually happened. Last Sunday, 77 year old Boyd Ross was checking his 12 gauge shotgun out in the back room when it went off. The birdshot round sent pellets through the wall of home, and one of them somehow had enough power to come out the other side and go through a chair, striking his 75 year-old wife Charlene in the back of her neck. Luckily she was just grazed by it, but is still must’ve smarted something awful. When Charlene was checked out, the doctor noticed she had an irregular heartbeat. A pacemaker was prescribed immediately, and surgery performed a few days later, correcting her heartbeat. While this shot may have saved a life so to speak, please store your guns properly unloaded for your safety...or else you might just end up in one of our animations. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Firefighters use tiny oxygen masks to rescue hamsters in Olympia, Washington

01:27
Firefighters in Washington State responding to a fire at a mobile home had their lifesaving skills tested when they found three asphyxiated baby hamsters trapped inside. A woman in Olympia, Washington had apparently left her dryer on when she left her mobile home on Friday afternoon. When she returned soon after she was shocked to see her house on fire and firefighters battling the blaze. After they put out the fire, firefighters discovered a family of five hamsters trapped in their cage next to a cute marriage certificate drawn in crayon. The father and mother were awake but their babies weren’t moving. The firefighters turned to their “Pet Emergency Pocket Guide” and used makeshift oxygen masks and a plastic bag equipped with oxygen tubes to try to resuscitate the hamsters. Two of the three baby hamsters survived. A third died, unfortunately. The Lacey Fire District 3 later tweeted touching pictures of the rescue and cited the dryer as the preliminary cause of the fire. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. School hero Yaovi Mawuli gives Nike Concord Air Jordan 11 lows to bullied classmate

01:12
A North Carolina high school student helped a bullied classmate by giving him a pair of new shoes. Yaovi Mawuli noticed a student was making fun of Jared Newby, who was wearing a pair of worn out sneakers during French class, according to a report by local Fox affiliate WGHP. Yaovi has an extensive shoe collection because he trades shoes online. He decided to give Jared a pair of “Concord” Air Jordan 11 lows that he had in his size. However, Yaovi worried that giving Jared the shoes directly would hurt his feelings, so he sought help online. A school counselor gave Jared the shoes from Yaovi in her office on the next day. Jared threw the old shoes immediately after he got the new shoes. “It felt like I was standing on air,” Jared told WGHP. Jared took a picture with Yaovi in his brand new Air Jordans that has been making the rounds in social media. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Missing person Hannah Graham: new surveillance footage aids search for UVA student

01:54
Hannah Graham, 18, went missing Friday night after she left an apartment party near University of Virginia, where she is a second-year student. On Tuesday, Charlottesville police released several surveillance videos that may provide clues to the student’s whereabouts. According to reports, Graham left a party alone around 11:50 p.m. At 12:45 a.m., a security camera at McGrady’s Irish Pub caught Hannah wandering around outside. She did not enter the bar, but retraced her steps along the sidewalk near the patio. At 12:55 a.m., a security camera outside of a Shell gas station showed Graham running down the street. At the very end of the clip, she slows to a walk, leading police to believe she was not being followed. According to witnesses, Hannah was seen at 1:00 a.m. near the public mall on Market Street. Twenty minutes later, she reportedly texted a friend to say she was lost near the area of 14th Street. However, police said that area is too far from where she was spotted along Market Street. Police have also said that Graham was “pretty well intoxicated” that night. Graham’s case is eerily similar to those of Alexis Murphy, Alicia Reynolds, Samantha Clarke and Morgan Harrington, all of whom have gone missing from around the same area since 1996. Police only know what happened to Morgan Harrington, also a UVA student, whose body was discovered buried at a farm 10 miles away from where she disappeared in 2009. Morgan’s suspected killer has never been found. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Police tase deaf man for trying to communicate using sign language

01:16
Jonathan Meister, a hearing-impaired man from Hawthorne, California is suing four officers from the Hawthorne police department after they allegedly tasered him several times when he tried to communicate with them using sign language on February 13, 2013. The incident happened on 6:30 p.m. when Meister was retrieving boxes he had left at a friend's house, when a neighbor mistook him for a burglar and called police. Police arrived and called out to Meister, but he didn't hear them because he was hearing-impaired. According to The Raw Story, one of the officers grabbed Meister by his hand. Meister then tried to communicate with the officers with American Sign Language. That was a bad idea, because the officers interpreted his sudden movement as resisting arrest. They started hitting him and kicking his stomach. He struggled while police were trying to handcuff him, so one officer tasered him. He fell to the ground and was tasered three more times, including one final "drive stun" to his abdomen. Police continued to beat him until he was unconscious. They finally flipped him on his stomach and handcuffed him. He was later sent to the hospital and charged with assaulting the officers. The charge was later dropped. Meister has now filed a lawsuit against the Hawthorne police department through the Greater Los Angeles Agency on Deafness. They are suing the police department for violating his civil rights under Americans with Disabilities Act. According to the lawsuit, the incident happened "in substantial part because the HPD does not provide its officers the training and resources to serve people who are deaf or hard of hearing." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Boy dies after 'friend' throws him off rooftop

01:41
A 12 year-old Taiwanese boy has died after his 'friend' threw him off a 13-storey rooftop. According to police, at around 5 p.m., Hsu went to an Internet cafe to meet with a group of his friends, including a 23-year-old man surnamed Chiang (江), and a 21-year-old man with the family name of Wang (王). Altogether, the six friends then went to the rooftop of one of the boys' apartment building to hang out. Hsu reportedly got into a fierce argument with his two older friends. Chiang then allegedly covered the boy's head with a jacket and started beating the child's head. As the violence escalated, the three other friends left the scene. Wang, however, reportedly hit Hsu with a brick before running away. Chiang, who is significantly larger than the 12 year-old, finally lifted and threw the boy off the roof of the building. Hsu died at the scene. The boy's older sister said yesterday she was heartbroken, adding she couldn't believe someone could do this to a child. The building's security guard said he heard something heavy fall, but only later discovered it was a person. The security guard told police that the boy's "friends" looked pale and nervous as they exited the building. After their arrest, Chiang defended himself saying Hsu had constantly verbally bullied them, which he said, led to his violent actions. Chiang and Wang have been charged with murder and assault respectively. Their sentences, however, could be reduced, as they have been previously diagnosed with mental disabilities. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Medal of Honor awarded to two Vietnam War vets for ‘extraordinary bravery’

02:08
It may have come late, but at least the day arrived. On September 15th, almost 50 years after the early days of the Vietnam conflict, U.S. President Barack Obama awarded the Medal of Honor to Sergeant Bennie Adkins and posthumously to Specialist Donald Sloat. In 1966, U.S. Green Berets, which included Sgt. Bennie G. Adkins, were engaged in heavy combat with North Vietnamese troops along the Ho Chi Minh trail. Adkins and his squad became pinned down on a hilltop in central Vietnam in March of that year and over a four-day period, Adkins and the Green Berets fought fiercely to defend their position against vastly superior enemy numbers. As the battle raged, Adkins repeatedly ran through enemy fire to help resupply U.S. troops and was credited with dragging wounded U.S. troops to safety as well as other acts of bravery that included saving a rescue helicopter after an enemy soldier attacked. Adkins stepped in front of the helicopter, blocking the enemy and protecting the wounded. The Army said Adkins, in addition to saving many of his comrades’ lives, was responsible for killing some 175 enemy troops over the four-day-battle. On the final night of the battle, a wounded and exhausted Atkins and his men awaited rescue while continuing to defend their position, when, from the darkness of the jungle, the growls of a tiger were heard and the enemy retreated. Adkins and the U.S. troops, toughed it out and were rescued in the morning. U.S. Army Specialist Donald Sloat was the same day, posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for jumping on a grenade in early 1970. After being tripped by a fellow soldier on patrol, a booby-trap grenade rolled toward his feet and Sloat quickly decided the only way to save his fellow soldiers was by throwing his own body on to it. His death saved the lives of three of his comrades. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Elliot Rodger began his rampage at his apartment in the 6500 block of Seville Road, which he shared with two of his victims, George Chen and Wang Weihan. A third victim Cheng Yuanhong was visiting. All three students were found stabbed to death. Rodger then went on a shooting spree as he drove his car across Isla Vista, killing three more people before crashing his car and committing suicide. Rodger, 22, was the son of Hollywood director Peter Rodger, who worked on movies including "The Hunger Games." According to several videos Rodger posted on YouTube, the killings were his way of seeking revenge against girls for rejecting him. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Bouncer disarms gunman video: Wasson receives medal

01:10
Bouncer Eric Wasson disarmed an armed man attempting to enter Johnny Baby's bar on University Avenue in St. Paul last year on September 21. Wasson was honored for his courageous act by the St. Paul police. On the night of September 21, a man holding a gun came to the door of the bar where Wasson was working as a security guard. Wasson said he tried to defuse the situation by smiling at the gunman and saying, "Hey, what's going on?" Wasson also told the man to calm down. According to Wasson, that's when the man told him to move and raised his gun. At the time, more than 150 people were inside the bar. Wasson rushed the gunman, whose gun was discharged twice as they struggled. No one was hit. St. Paul Police Chief Thomas Smith presented Wasson the Chief's Award for Valor, the highest award Smith can give a citizen, on Wednesday. "Mr. Wasson, you were indeed a hero that evening," Smith said about the Sept. 21 incident. Authorities said the gunman was convicted in federal court. "We don't know what the suspect may have done if he was allowed inside the bar. ... You displayed a great amount of courage when you chose to disarm the suspect and protect the customers in the bar." Smith said at the award ceremony. Wasson's children were also in attendance at the award ceremony. His children are ages 4 and 9. Smith told them at the ceremony: "Be very proud of your daddy." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Hong Kong protest 2014: Umbrella Revolution timeline

04:19
On September 22, the Hong Kong Federation of Students mobilized up to 10,000 students to boycott class with hundreds of teachers voluntarily joining the strike and lecturing at the rally. The protesters voiced strong discontent with Beijing’s late August decree that all future candidates for position of chief executive be screened and approved by a pro-Beijing nominating committee. On September 26, the 5th day of the strike, Hong Kong’s Chief Executive CY Leung remained firm in refusing to negotiate with the students. Four thousand students and citizens then surrounded the Government House. At midnight, led by 17-year-old student leader Joshua Wong, the protesters charged the government headquarters. The clash ended with 61 protesters arrested by police, who fended off the crowds with pepper spray. By September 27, the crowd had swelled to 50,000 people who remained outside government headquarters, demanding that arrested students be released. On September 28, 60,000 protesters took to the streets. The government quickly condemned the movement as illegal and 7000 riot police were dispatched to attempt and disperse the protests, firing 78 tear gas canisters into the unarmed crowds. In the early morning hours of September 29, the “Occupy Central” movement had extended its operations into Admiralty, Central, Wan Chai, Causeway Bay and Mongkok, as 100,000 citizens came out to condemn the violent police response to peaceful protesters. After umbrellas were used to fend off tear gas from riot police the foreign media officially dubbed the uprising, the ‘Umbrella Revolution.’ On the night of September 30 heavy downpours put the umbrellas to good use as the number of protesters rose to more than 100,000, forming what they named a “Democracy Plaza” in the districts of Admiralty, Mongkok and Causeway Bay. Despite the swelling crowds, Chief Executive CY Leung made it clear he had no intention of heeding the people’s call for him to resign. On October 2, the Hong Kong Federation of Students called on citizens to occupy government buildings, only then did the authorities finally agree to talks about policy reform. On October 3, triad gangsters attacked pro-democracy protesters in Mongkok, Causeway Bay and Tsim Sha Tsui. The Federation of Students denounced the government for standing by idly while thugs beat peaceful protesters and called on its members fight to the end. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Sergeant Mike Martin and Officer Mike Kushner of the Willistown Township Police Department responded to Shorr's call on May 9. She told police that her 13-year-old Australian Shepherd, Pluto, had gone missing on Tuesday. She found him stuck in mud near a stream close to her home and needed help getting him out. When police arrived, Pluto was stuck in two feet of mud and was struggling to keep his nose above the surface. The officers prepared a gurney for the canine and stepped into the mud to rescue the dog. After 60 hours of being stuck, Pluto was exhausted and couldn't even wag his tail upon being rescued. He was taken to the vet and at first it wasn't certain if he was going to make it. Pluto still has some matted hair and walks with a slight limp, but the vet said that he's on the way to making a full recovery. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. 02:15
An armed gunmen was fatally shot Friday evening in southeast Houston after the convenience store clerk’s son came to the rescue. Usman Seth was at his father’s local grocery store when a masked robber carrying a tactical firearm came into the store demanding his sister, who was at the cashier counter, give him all their money. Seth’s father handed him their store handgun and quickly shot the suspect, later identified as Sam Abugalboush, in the leg. Surveillance cameras caught the entire shootout on tape. Police arrived within minutes, but Abugalboush died at the scene. A grand jury will determine if charges should be considered against Seth for the shooting. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. The sole attacker somehow managed to get past security without a ticket to target the well-heeled 66-year-old. As agents approached, the aggressor launched the missile which sailed toward its hairsprayed target at an estimated 60-70 mph. But her aim was off by a couple of feet. Unfazed, Mrs Clinton mocked the assailant's lame throw and quipped: "Thank goodness she didn't play softball like I did." Because things may have turned out differently. A black and orange shoe was found at the scene and the Secret Service says the woman will face criminal charges. TomoNews understands the suspect has been transferred to a black prison in Yemen to undergo enhanced interrogation techniques. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Chicago Willis Tower glass bottom observation deck shatters, terrifying tourists

The glass box observation decks on the 103rd floor of Chicago's Willis Tower are a major tourist draw. The glass cubes jut out of the building over a height of 1353 feet and provide exceptional views of the city. The glass balconies are designed to hold as much as five tons and the decks draw many thousands of visitors per year. But on Thursday, May 29, a group of tourists from California got more excitement than they anticipated during a visit to the Willis Tower. As they were photographing the night views, they suddenly heard the glass below them cracking. Willis Tower officials said the glass cube skyboxes, opened to the public in 2009, are connected to the building by strong metal frames. The glass bottom floor is made of three, one-and-a-half-inch thick glass panes which are coated on both sides with a special protective layer. This protective layer is what shattered and the tourists were never in danger of falling, building officials said. Chicago City inspectors closed the attraction until repairs are made, but said it does appear that only the protective layer was involved in the mishap. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Animal Heroes: This canine duo have an unusually strong bond, refuses to leave friend shot 38 times

01:02
This 18-month-old pointer cross refused to leave her male friend, a 2-year-old setter cross after he’d been shot 38 times with a poisonous lead pellet gun. Even though the pooches are Greek, not Italian, they have been nicknamed Romeo and Juliet because they just can’t be separated. It was Romeo who had been shot and left for dead in a ditch half-filled with water. Juliet refused to leave his side and stayed with him for three days without food, barking at passersby until someone investigated and called animal services. When animals services arrived, they had not expected to bring Juliet along, but she wouldn’t leave Romeo’s side so they took them both in. One of the rescuers commented that the pair were special, it was unusual to see such a strong bond between animals. Now Holbrook Animal Rescue have flown the two dogs to Gatwick, England, from Greece to start their new lives together. The center will be placing them with a new owner, because whoever takes one will definitely have to take the other one. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Amazing rescue: Hawaii fisherman reeled in after drifting on high seas for 12 days

01:58
A 67-year old man was rescued on Tuesday after spending 12 days on the high seas in his 25-ft boat Malia off Hawaii. The US Coast Guard and US Navy discovered a hungry, weak and dehydrated Ron Ingraham about 80 miles from where he made two mayday calls almost two weeks ago. Ingraham was fishing in his boat Malia off the island of Molokai on November 27 when he radioed in a distress call saying his boat was experiencing engine trouble and taking on water. The initial search involving a navy P3 Orion aircraft and Coast Guard cutter failed to turn up the Malia, despite covering an area of 12,000 square miles. At one point during his ordeal, Ingraham said he was washed overboard by a massive wave but he was able to pull himself back in using a rope. After twelve days drifting at sea, Ingraham decided to try once more and made another distress call. This time it was picked up by the US Coast Guard, who relayed the information to the USS Paul Hamilton - just 14 miles away. The ship made its way to the signal’s source where they found the Malia and Ingraham. Crew members rescued Ingraham before taking him and the Malia back to the nearest harbor. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Greek Airline crash: uncontrolled decompression doomed 'ghost plane' Helios Airways Flight 522

01:23
Helios Airways flight 522 crashed on August 14, 2005 after a lack of oxygen incapacitated the aircraft's crew members and led to the plane eventually running out of fuel. The plane reportedly arrived in Cyprus with a possible pressure problem. Helios technicians did a pressure check but failed to reset the pressurization system from manual back to auto after the test was completed. When the plane was put back into service, flight crew managed to overlook the error during the pre-flight procedure, the after-start check, and the after take-off check. The aircraft departed Larnaca International Airport at 9:07 a.m., heading to Prague with a stopover in Athens. As the aircraft continued to climb, the air pressure slowly dropped and cabin altitude warning horn sounded. Due to hypoxia, the judgement of the plane's pilots was impaired and they misunderstood the true nature of the warning signal. Ground controllers lost contact with the plane at 9:20 a.m. At the same time, oxygen masks were deployed inside the cabin as air pressure reached dangerous levels." Two Hellenic Air Force F-16 fighter jets were deployed to establish contact when the aircraft failed to answer calls from Athens ATC. The jets observed that the pilot was nowhere to be seen and the first officer was seen slumped forward in his seat, unconscious, while the oxygen masks were seemingly unused. At 11:49 a.m., flight attendant Andreas Prodromou, who was able to remain conscious using a portable oxygen tank, tried to land the plane but was too late when the engines flamed out due to fuel exhaustion. At 12:04 pm, the aircraft crash landed into hills near Grammatiko, a village in East Attica, Greece. There were no survivors. It was the deadliest aviation disaster in Greek history with 121 fatalities and is the fourth-deadliest involving a Boeing 737-300. -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Please watch: "Crying dog breaks the internet’s heart — but this sad dog story has a happy ending" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4prKTN9bYQc -~-~~-~~~-~~-~-

Shotgun self-defense: robbery fails at Fresno jewelry store when owner pulls weapon

The surveillance footage from last Friday recorded the wanna-be jewelry thieves pacing the store nervously, pretending to show interest in the merchandise. While one suspect asked clerk Noe Guzman about bracelets, the other suspect racked the slide of a handgun behind his partner's back. The amateur thieves then demanded cash. Guzman said he moved to the side so that his uncle, the store owner who was in the back with his daughter and grandchild, could see that a robbery was in progress. The suspects were surprised when the owner came out from the back with a shotgun. Looking down the barrell of a shotgun may have led them to question what they'd gotten themselves into. The amateurs finally came to their senses and left the store empty handed. Guzman and the owner were happy nobody was hurt and that the perps were caught on camera. Police are still looking to identify the suspects, two Hispanic men they believe to be around 17 and 21 years of age. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets.
