Dairy Queen Manager's Act of Kindness Goes Viral - Joey Prusak - Hopkins, Minnesota
9/19/13 - Humble, and hard-working, Joey Prusak is being called a Good Samaritan -- but he doesn't care for the title. "The owner asked why I didn't tell him," Prusak explained. "I said I didn't think I needed to. I didn't think I needed to tell anyone, and I didn't tell anyone." The owners of the Dairy Queen on Main Street in Hopkins had no idea what happened until they got an anonymous e-mail passed along from corporate. It starts off reading: "Dear owner, I was at your store on September 10th having lunch. I was in line as one of your employees was serving a gentleman." Prusak told FOX 9 News the man was a regular customer. "He always pays with a debit card," Prusak said. "I don't know if he is partially blind or fully blind or what the situation is." While paying, the man unknowingly dropped a $20 bill on the ground. Prusak watched as the woman standing in line behind the customer picked it up the money and put it in her purse. The witness's letter goes onto say, "Before I could say something to her, your employee stepped in. He politely asked her to give the money back to the young man who was blind." "I was like, 'If you are not going to return the money, please leave the store. She said, 'It's mine.' I said, 'Please leave the store,'" Prusak recalled. In the letter the owners received, the witness said she never expected what happened next. "Your employee approached the man and took out his wallet and said, 'Sir, on behalf of the Dairy Queen, I would like to give you the $20 you dropped on the ground." After reading the anonymous letter, Prusak's boss, Nancy Pettit, posted the letter for all her employees to read. Someone also put it on Facebook, and from there, it went viral. In fact, Prusak spent much of his Wednesday talking to reporters from around the country, including Yahoo News and the Huffington Post. "It's nice to see a young man do the right thing and get recognized for it," Pettit said. "I just feel very blessed to have such a wonderful young man working at my shop." While FOX9 cameras were at the Dairy Queen on Main Street in Hopkins, another customer who heard about the story decided to pay it forward, handing Prusak 20 bucks. "It's nice to know there are still people like that in this world," said Angela Reed. That wasn't the first "reward" Prusak has received since the letter starting circulating. He says he would prefer not to take the money and would rather just assume others will do what he did. "I didn't expect anything, nor did I want anything," Prusak said. "It wasn't anything I wouldn't have done on any other day. I hope everyone else would have done the same thing -- which I think 99 out of 100 people would have." Lawyer: HOA Can't Prohibit WWII Vet From Flying Flag - John Helton
8/8/13 - MCDONOUGH, Ga. - There may be a legal solution to a World War II veteran's battle to fly an American flag on his property. On Wednesday, FOX 5's Morse Diggs reported on John Helton, a 25-year Air Force veteran who served in three wars, who says his homeowners association in McDonough threatened to issue daily fines if he violated a rule that restricted flying the flag. A covenant at The Villages at Spring Creek retirement community restricts how often the flag can be displayed. Since the story aired, Helton said he's been overwhelmed by people expressing support. "I appreciate and I thank every one of them," Helton said. John's wife, Louise, said that her husband deserves the right to display the flag. "There's no excuse for this. My husband suffered enough and fought enough and we will stand together under that flag," Louise Helton said. "He fought for the flag and we'll die for the flag." Courtney Lytle, a local lawyer, said that Helton can legally fly the Stars and Stripes. "The Federal Freedom to Display the Flag Act of 2005 specifically states that a homeowners association is not allowed to forbid homeowners from displaying the flag," said Lytle. "An HOA can restrict the display in how it's done." Some of Helton's neighbors defiantly put out their flags on Thursday in support of the veteran. "Many people have not held the hand of a dying soldier or sailor. I was a sailor. I have seen many man die for this flag, and I think every American ought to have the opportunity to fly that flag -- in the proper way -- any time they want to," said neighbor Joe Certain. Lytle said that she's willing to talk to the HOA about the act that allows the flag to be displayed.

Soldier Travels Across the Globe to Surprise Daughter
5/24/13 - ATLANTA - An Army Reserve sergeant surprised his daughter by returning from an overseas deployment and presenting her with her diploma at high school graduation. Army Reserve Sgt. 1st Class Dedrick Clark returned from Kuwait on Thursday after eight months overseas. He kept his return a secret in order to surprise his daughter, Dia Clark, at Lovejoy High's commencement ceremony, which was held at the Georgia Dome. "She has no idea, I talked to her today...and she has no idea. She thinks I'm still over in Kuwait," Clark said before the commencement. Dia's mother, Army officials and school leaders all conspired to make it a special moment for the Jonesboro teen. "I am so mad at him," Dia joked. "I just talked to him earlier and my sister was just crying because he couldn't make it and he's here." Sgt. Clark appeared on stage to the crowd's applause and his daughter's surprise as she received her diploma. Dia graduated with honors and is the recipient of the Gates Millennium Scholarship, one of only 1,000 nationwide. Dia says her inspiration has been her father. "He's one of the main people I wanted here. He's my biggest fan, my biggest supporter through everything and I'm so glad he made it," said Dia Clark. Sgt. Clark says he's scheduled to return to Kuwait in a week. In the meantime, he said he'll be catching up with his family. Dia Cark said that she'll attend the University of Georgia, where she has a full scholarship. Her dad says he plans to return to the states on a more permanent basis so he won't have to travel halfway across the world to be at her next graduation.

Charges Dismissed Against Student Refusing to Remove NRA T-Shirt
6/28/13 - FOX NEWS -- The West Virginia eighth-grader arrested after refusing a teacher's demand he remove a National Rifle Association T-shirt he wore to school won't face criminal charges after all. Jared Marcum, 14, was charged with obstruction following the April 18 incident after police who were called to Logan Middle School school said he refused to stop talking. The case generated national headlines, as Marcum's family and attorney, Ben White, claimed the demand that he remove the NRA shirt violated his right to freedom of speech. On Thursday, Logan County Circuit Judge Eric O'Briant signed an order dismissing the charge. Marcum's mother, Tanya Lardieri, told WOWK that she was overcome with emotion after signing a dismissal order relating to the charge. The boy's father, Allen Lardieri, said the couple is just glad Eric's legal troubles are behind him. "It should have come sooner but it's done and we don't have to have that concern anymore about him having a criminal record," Allen Lardieri told WOWK. "I'm just glad that it's over. His mother is glad it's over."

Former Marine Attacked Teen Bullies, Racial Slurs, Melee Hurt Marine Caught On Video
Former Marine Attacked Teen Bullies, Racial Slurs, Melee Hurt Marine Caught On Video. Authorities said no one came forward to help when it looked like the men were readying to fight the lone, slightly built father until Wen Jones, a former Marine and father of two, walked by, leaving the beach with his wife and two young daughters. "It was not just a situation I could just walk past," said Jones. Jones, 43, said he asked the men to break it up. But instead, a man began throwing punches. As Jones struggled with the largest attacker, another one began hitting him on the back of the head, and a third jumped in and eventually knocked him unconscious. His orbital bone beneath his eye was fractured. The confrontation started on the beach earlier in the day, according to Juno Beach police. Witnesses told police the three men had been harassing a 14-year-old boy and his friends, making racial slurs, and kicking sand on them. Finally, the boy's father, Leroy Wright, told them they needed to leave the beach, and he said that's when they began threatening him. "I see that these guys were not backing down, and I literally had to keep them at bay, and I looked up and here was Mr. Jones," said Wright. After Jones was beaten unconscious, the three men fled, but witnesses took down their license plate numbers, and police tracked them down.

Disabled Veteran Kicked off Boardwalk Because of Service Dog - Jared Goering - North Wildwood
8/9/13 - REPORT: NORTH WILDWOOD - A disabled U.S. Army veteran, who served our country for 19 years, says he was kicked off the North Wildwood boardwalk last night, simply for having his service dog by his side. Jared Goering served 1 tour in Iraq, 2 in Afghanistan, and spent 19 years as an active member of the Army. Jared said, "I served from 1993 to 2012." He then told NBC40 he couldn't sleep Thursday night because he felt so disrespected by a North Wildwood police officer. Goering said, "Just like any veteran with disabilities with a service dog, to come back and be harassed and shown no respect, it upset me - it really bothered me. I was up most of the night thinking about it." A North Wildwood police officer issued Jared and his wife a summons because of the dog. Goering said, "I expected to get more respect from him because of the jobs that we both have to do." "He mockingly asked if all veterans get service dogs," said Jared's wife, Sally Goering, "his dog is medically necessary and he is a service dog." In 2009, Jared was serving in Afghanistan when his vehicle was blown up by IEDs, twice, within 36 hours. Now, Jared uses his 3-year-old service dog, Gator, short for Navigator, to help him walk, and to get up and down stairs. Jared explained, "I also suffer from PTSD, severe anxiety, depression - and my dog plays a big part in my life. His main purpose is mobility but he also helps me with all my emotional problems from combat." Jared and his wife Sally say the incident occurred on the 26th street North Wildwood boardwalk. The Goering family said, even after showing the officer the dog's service identification card, he still issued them a summons and kicked them off the boardwalk. Sally said, "We want the public to be aware that there are different types of disabilities and different types of service dogs - and police officers need to be educated about this." North Wildwood police officials say there are no pending charges, but that there are other circumstances surrounding the case. The mayor of North Wildwood says they will issue a formal apology, if appropriate, pending the outcome of the investigation.

8/27/13 - According to theBlaze a Marine Corps veteran's battle with a retirement community over his quest to fly two flags outside of his home has come to a close. Captain Jim Lowe of Griffin, Ga., was hoping he'd be allowed to fly both the American flag and the Marine Corps colors, but his request has been denied because it does not meet the community's rules and standards. Lowe and his wife face large fines if they fail to take one of the flags down, so they are now planning to move out of the Sun City-Peachtree community. The problem is that residents there are only allowed to fly one flag, as per the neighborhood's bylaws, WAGA-TV reported. But Lowe, who served in the military, believes the Marine colors deserve to be displayed alongside the American flag and he has fought for the right to have both outside of his home. While he sees the two flags as complementary, the board of directors at Sun City-Peachtree has a very different view on the matter. The banners, local leaders argue, are separate and therefore violate the stated regulations. Arguing that the Lowe family knew the rules before moving in, the board indicated that it has no plans to change the bylaws to accommodate Lowe's request. In a statement, leaders noted that a recent poll of residents did not indicate that there was an overwhelming push to amend the rules. On Monday, Lowe was officially told to remove one of the two flags he currently has outside of the home. Moving forward, he and his wife have only two options: They can choose to ignore the rule, which would result in a $25 per day fine and a potential lien against their home. The other option is to move to a different community. They've chosen the latter. "When a bunch of arbitrary rules trump the Constitution, it's a sad date because indeed a piece of America is lost," Lowe told WAGA, decrying the fact that he believes the community is controlling how he exercises his patriotism. The family has made friends at Sun City-Peachtree and is reluctant to leave, but they simply can't afford the fines. "We loved it here, but now we're going to have to find somewhere else to go. We just can't afford it. I mean it would wipe us out completely," his wife, Sandy, added.

CBS' Sharyl Attkisson Opens Up About Hacking To O'Reilly, Says 'I Think I Know' Who Did It
June 17, 2013 - Full Interview - CBS News investigative reporter Sharyl Attkisson sat down with Bill O'Reilly tonight to talk about her recent revelation that her work and home computers were hacked. She described to O'Reilly how she noticed her computers starting up randomly at night, and while she did not say anything directly, she did acknowledge that she has a suspicion of who did it. Attkisson told O'Reilly that while she was concerned about hackers getting access to her personal finances, that information was not compromised. She said the stories she was working on were Fast & Furious, a "green energy debacle" story, and Benghazi. O'Reilly couldn't help but notice how all of these stories were ones that painted the Obama administration in a negative light. Attkisson said she got technical help before going to CBS with her concerns. O'Reilly noted the next thing to do is "sue somebody," and asked Attkisson who's under suspicion. Attkission explained she has attorneys advising her not to come forth with all that information. O'Reilly remarked, "I assume you have a suspicion." Attkission admitted, "Well, I think I know."

Team Helps 8-year-old with Down Syndrome Score Touchdown - Sammy Grugan - Georgia
CANTON, Ga. - There wasn't a dry eye in the house on Saturday when a group of youth football players from Canton did something special for their 8-year-old teammate. Every Saturday, young lives are molded on countless fields across Georgia. To some it's just a game, but the kids who play are learning lessons about leadership, teamwork and heart—right in front of their parents' eyes. "Having your son in a football uniform is every father's dream," said Matt Grugan. Grugan's son Sammy, an 8-year-old student at Avery Elementary, has Down syndrome. What truly makes Sammy special is how he makes other people feel. "Pure joy" said David Guy, who is Sammy's football coach. "He's the happiest kid. He makes you smile. He's just pure." "One of the brightest stars you will ever meet," said Sammy's dad. "Just in terms of light, his radiance-- he shines. He's just a pleasure, a pleasure to know." That light is why the 6 and 7-year-olds on the Creekview Grizzlies team asked Sammy to be their manager this season. On Saturday, they had something even more special planned for Sammy. With an assist from the other team at the end of the first half, Sammy not only got to play—he got to carry the ball into the end zone. "When you put a helmet on Sammy, you couldn't tell the difference between him and any other kid," said Coach Guy. "And they treated him that way." His parents, naturally, were overjoyed. "With Sam it's been a little different," said his dad. "You knew these opportunities would never happen. So to have that opportunity, it's beyond words." "What every parent wants is for their child to be included and accepted by their peers, and for him to be involved with the team this way, is amazing," said his mom. Sammy's big touchdown happened on what was also the first Saturday of Down syndrome awareness month. Sammy's mom says it's important to accept and include people with special needs.

Man Carries Gun Openly into Mall, Gets Harassed - Vancouver, Washington
How do Derek Mendiola's rights stand up against a store's right to kick him out? Mendiola says his weapon does draw glances in public, but he says he means no harm and meant no harm at the Sears in Vancouver Westfield Shopping Center on Wednesday when he stopped in to look at some tools. He went in wearing his 9 mm Taurus pistol on his shoulder. He says he was surprised how an employee took issue with his gun and started verbally attacking him for having it. "For somebody to harass me for just following my rights is a pretty big deal. It's just like telling me, I can't breathe air, I can't live," he said.

Atlanta Crook Thinks Patrons Buying $180 Lebron James Shoes Won't Exercise 2nd Amendment: SHOT DEAD
Occurred on 6/22/13 - A crook in Atlanta made a fatal mistake on Saturday when he tried to rob patrons in line for the new, $180 Lebron James shoes: The lawbreaker was shot dead after a customer used his gun to fight back. And there's incredible surveillance video showing the moment the customer decided to exercise his Second Amendment right. Patrons had been lining up all week — at least of them one since last Monday — to get the new Nike LeBron X EXT shoes. And according to WSB-TV, a parking attendant had warned buyers outside the store Wish in the Little Five Points area that someone had been pick-pocketing patrons. Around 5:30am on Saturday, he apparently struck. Reports indicate the crook used a gun to try and rob everyone one in line. But one person wasn't having it. An armed citizen in line used his own gun to fight back — he opened fire on the man and hit him. The crook ran a little ways before collapsing and dying. "He really stood up for all of us," Taylor White — a fellow patron — told WSB. "And I salute him, to the homie that did that." WSB has a video report with more incredible details, such as a man in line responding to the parking attendant's initial warning by saying he had a concealed weapon permit and wasn't afraid to use it, and even the local channel saying that the good Samaritan was actually still in line while they were doing their report but he asked not to be identified

8th Grader Suspended, Arrested Over NRA T-Shirt Now Faces $500 Fine and a Year in Jail
6/15/13 - The West Virginia eight-grader arrested and suspended over his National Rifle Association T-shirt with an image of a firearm is now facing a $500 fine and a year in jail. A judge is allowing prosecutors to move forward with charging Jared Marcum, 14, with obstructing an officer, WOWK-TV reported. Marcum got into an argument with a teacher over his "Protect Your Rights" NRA shirt at Logan Middle School in April. He was arrested for disturbing the education process and for obstructing an officer — the latter, according to court documents obtained by WOWK, because Marcum refused to stop talking, thus hindering the arresting officer from doing his job. After Marcum was suspended from school, he returned to class wearing the exact same shirt, as did other students in a show of solidarity. "Every aspect of this is just totally wrong," Marcum's father, Allen Lardieri told WOWK. "He has no background of anything criminal, up until now and it just seems like nobody wants to admit they're wrong." The family's attorney, Ben White, said there no mention in the arresting officer's petition of Marcum making any threats or acting violently. "In my view of the facts, Jared didn't do anything wrong," White said. White is seeking to have the charges against Marcum dismissed. The teen is due back in court on July 11.

9-Year-Old, Asean Johnson Interview w/ Wolf Blitzer, Saved School Standing Up To Chicago Mayor
(May 28, 2013) - Tuesday afternoon on The Situation Room, CNN's Wolf Blitzer conducted an interview with a 9-year-old boy who's making waves in the ongoing crisis of Chicago public school closings. Third-grader Asean Johnson effectively saved Marcus Garvey Elementary School from becoming one of the dozens of schools closed this month when he delivered a passionate speech against Mayor Rahm Emanuel during a recent protest. The young Johnson told Blitzer that he didn't attend the rally prepared to speak, but when his teacher asked him if he would, he said yes, and "spoke from my heart" without a script. Asked what he would say to Mayor Emanuel, Johnson said, "the mayor should not be coming in, closing these schools" without first looking into what he can do to keep them open. He urged the mayor to properly "invest" in the city's schools instead of shutting them down. "You're closing schools that are maybe underutilized and don't have everything that you want," he said, "but you never invested in them." Blitzer suggested that many people watching such a politically active young man might see a future president of the United States, but Johnson said his first choice is to become a professional football player. And for now, he's looking into doing some acting and modeling. "The current president is from Chicago," Blitzer told him, "so there is a history of people coming from Chicago and winding up president of the United States. You never know what could happen, but you've got a huge future, Asean, no matter what you do."

Video Catches School Buses Running Through Stop Signs in Oxon Hill
10/2/13 - OXON HILL, Md. - It is a deadly combination: school buses loaded with kids running stop signs. Parent Troy Lucas Sr. says he and others parents had been complaining to school officials about schools buses blowing through the stop sign at Elkins Avenue and Crawford Street near Oxon Hill High School for weeks. When nothing happened, he took out his cell phone and got it on video. And then posted it on YouTube. "You're in the community with kids walking from school, parents walking to get their kids, students driving to and from school. It's a serious problem," Lucas says. "You get blindsided by a bus with kids on it and it's a problem for you and everyone on the bus as well." School officials released this statement hours after Lucas put his video on YouTube: "We are currently investigating this situation. All Prince George's County Public Schools bus drivers are required to follow and practice all Maryland state traffic laws," said Max Pugh, Acting Communications Officer of Prince George's County Public Schools. Lucas was back out with his camera phone Wednesday and what a difference a day makes. Every bus stopped at the stop sign. There were also two staffers on the corner monitoring the situation. "After I recorded it, something was done," says Lucas. The school system encourages people to keep their eyes on its 1,250 buses on its webpage. Transportation Director Lori Carter-Evans writes, "We appreciate your help as parents and community members in promoting safety both on and off the bus." Lucas says he will keep his eyes open. "I will be keeping a watch on things out of concern for the neighborhood and the community," he says. To report problems, you can call the Transportation Phone Bank at 301-952-6570. Iraq War Veteran and His Service Dog Kicked Out of Restaurant by Defiant Owner - James Glaser
8/27/13 - A 21-year Air Force and Iraq War veteran has gone public with his complaint against a Massachusetts restaurant owner after both he and his service dog were barred from the eatery because of the owner's allegations the dog is not legitimate. WFXT-TV reported on Sunday that James Glaser and his dog, Jack, were kicked out of Big I's eatery in Oxford despite showing documentation proving the dog helps treat Glaser's post-traumatic stress disorder. "Many times, he's [woken] me up from night terrors," Glaser told WFXT. "And then, during the day, when I get upset and mad or something scares me or whatever, he comes up and paws my chest." But Big I's owner, Russell Ireland, refused to accept Glaser's certificate during their encounter on Saturday, even after local police verified its authenticity. "This is a post-traumatic stress dog," Ireland told WHDH-TV and other local media on Sunday. "It's to give him emotional support. How much emotional support do you need when you are eating breakfast." Faced with a barrage of angry phone calls and threats after the incident became public knowledge, WHDH reported that Ireland has apologized to veterans with what he considers a "legitimate service dog," while still refusing to serve Glaser, who has, in turn, threatened to file an Americans with Disabilities Act complaint.

Indiana Police Threaten to Taser Black Firefighter in the Face for Waving at Them
8/15/13 - A police department in Indiana has launched an internal investigation after a firefighter said he was thrown to the ground and threatened with a Taser for waving at several officers, who thought he was flipping them off. Evansville firefighter George Madison Jr. told the Evansville Courier & Press that he filed a formal complaint over the incident that happened on Tuesday. Madison, who also serves as a youth pastor at at Memorial Baptist Church, said that he was riding his bicycle on South Weinbach Avenue when he waved at several officers in a patrol car. The next thing he knew, the officers had pulled him over. "The officer jumped out and says, 'What are you doing throwing your hands up at us?'" Madison recalled. "He is talking to me as he is coming toward me. I tried to explain, but I couldn't get a word in edgewise." Madison said that he knew Evansville Police Chief Billy Bolin from community events, so he took out his cellphone to call him for help calming the situation. But the officer told him to put the phone down. And when he hesitated, the Taser came out. "It was literally maybe inches from my face," the father of four said. "I immediately threw my hands in the air. What he asked me to do I was more than willing to do. I said 'Please don't hurt me.' The next thing I know I'm laying down the ground and they cuffed me." "I remember looking down the barrel of a Taser, because [the officer] was gritting his teeth and saying, 'Don't make me pull this trigger.'" After the officers asked him where he worked, their attitudes changed, Madison said. The Courier & Press identified the officers as Darin Clifton and Jason Clegg, whose report says that Madison "flipped" them off after he ran a stop sign. Chief Bolin explained to WTVW that he didn't want to "discredit George at all," but "we have to hear all sides and a lot of times both sides may have the same story but just from a different perspective." Evansville NAACP President Rev. Gerald Arnold told WTVW that he was "not in shock because it does happen." "Some things are not going to change until Jesus comes," Arnold pointed out. "You're always going to have that one bad apple unfortunately." In a Facebook post, Madison said that he didn't think the fact that he was black and the officers were white had anything to do with the incident, according to WFIE. But he does think they should be held accountable. "I don't want this man to lose his job or weeks of pay, but I have to look at it from the standpoint of I have a family to think about. I shouldn't feel bad for standing up for my own rights," he remarked. "The fact that I am a firefighter or preacher doesn't make a difference. All anybody wants is to be treated like a human being." Gun Store Depicts Obama As Firearms Salesman of The Year - New Hampshire
3/1/13 - MERRIMACK, NH (CBS) -- One of the posters in the front window of a New Hampshire gun shop depicts President Obama as "Firearms Salesman of the Year." Below the president are two AK-47 rifles. A second poster featuring the images of Adolf Hitler, Josef Stalin and Mao Zedong accompanies a statement that reads, "All Experts Agree, Gun Control Works." The signs are in the front window of Collectable Arms & Ammo in Merrimack. Store Co-owner Keith Cox makes no apologies for the storefront that has irritated some neighbors. "We like to have the creative storefronts which are sort of fun in one aspect and in another aspect if we have an opportunity to make a statement we'll do that as well," said Cox. Cox says he is sending two separate messages and is not connecting Obama to the dictators. He says Obama's picture is meant to thank him for sending gun sales surging with all the talk in Washington about gun control. As for the images of the three dictators, Cox says his message is that people armed with guns are better able to protect themselves against tyranny. Chuck Mower, who lives down the street from the shop, says he understands free speech, but says the message is over the top and unnecessary. "I can't even imagine any president's picture being portrayed on the front of a business with crossed assault weapons underneath it," Mower said. "When those kinds of things appear and take the public presence...they paint us more as a gooberville in Arkansas." Mower, a longtime Merrimack resident, has filed a complaint with the city. "It's not a good community standard message and it doesn't add to solving any of the complicated issues," he said. Outside the store on Friday, there was curiosity about the controversy. "If people want to show it then so be it, it's their freedom of rights," said one Merrimack resident. "One thing great about this country is you can agree to disagree, but to take these extremes I think it's shameful and I'm sad to say it's the town I live in," said another resident. Regardless of the controversy, the signage is not coming down. "I certainly would not ask them to change a flag hanging on their homes or a sign in their yards because I am offended by it or disagree with it," said Cox. "I will support anybody's freedom of speech." Town officials in Merrimack tell WBZ-TV the storefront is not breaking any town ordinances.

Alex Wagner Pisses Off Ron Paul Accusing Him of Anti-Semitism During Interview - MSNBC - 9/5/13
September 5, 2013 MSNBC Interview: Alex Wagner asked Ron Paul about his speech coming up at the Fatima Center, which she said has been accused of being an anti-Semitic organization. Asked if he would reconsider this speech, Paul said "no." Wagner cited some of the items in that group's charter that led some to believe the organization is anti-Semitic. "I have nothing to do with that," Paul said. "Sounds to me like you have me on here to bash Catholics." "There have been a lot of folks that have been involved with your campaign, supporters, newsletters that have been accredited to you that have strong anti-Semitic, racist undertones," Wagner said. Paul said that he has been dealing with accusations like these his whole political career. "When people disagree with your ideas they have to destroy your character," Paul insisted."

New Gun Laws Offer Reasons to Celebrate, Be Concerned for Gun Owners - Texas
9/2/13 - HOUSTON -- September 1st brought changes to gun laws in Texas that some gun owners admit give them both reasons to celebrate and reasons to be concerned. The old standard for obtaining a concealed handgun license in Texas was 10 hours of classroom instruction combined with at least 50 rounds at a shooting range demonstrating proficiency with a handgun. To renew the license every four years a re-visit to the classroom was required. As of Sept. 1st CHL rules have been revised to require a minimum of four hours and a maximum of six hours for CHL classroom instruction while the proficiency demonstration remains the same. "If you're going to conceal carry you gotta know how to use it out in a real world situation," said CHL instructor Tracy Sanford from Shiloh Shooting Range in northwest Harris County where she has taught CHL classes for the last five years. She said the change in Texas law is good in at least one respect: more people might be willing to take the safety course and get their CHL. That was part of the intent when state Sen. Donna Campbell wrote the revision back in April, "reducing...the unnecessary time burden that made it difficult for working folks to obtain their concealed-carry license." But Sanford, who said she will lean toward the full six-hour maximum now stipulated in the law, is concerned that portions of the former lengthier course might be left out. "And it's bittersweet because although we are going to shave off a little bit of the time in the class and therefore some of the information will get lost a little bit, I think a lot more people will go out and get their CHL due to the fact that they're not spending an entire day doing it," she said. "Now they've shortened it, and I'm not sure how they're gonna get all that in," said Shiloh customer and recent CHL recipient Karen Clark. At 67 years old she took the course earlier this year to be better prepared to protect herself both in her home and when she decides to conceal carry. "Well you know they're not toys. And I just think it's important to know everything you need to know about them," said Clark. "I really think they shouldn't shorten it too much," Clark said of the course that covers gun safety, shooting scenarios and legal justification for deadly force. "I think there's too much information to be covered. And that's just me. That's my opinion." But opponents of the 10-hour course mandated by Texas law when the statue was introduced back in 1995, maintained that the lengthy course was too restrictive and too big a barrier for gun owners. Tracy Sanford said she will use as many teaching hours as the new law allows and will tell students there is still much more to learn even after their license comes in the mail. "They're going to have to take a little bit of personal responsibility onto themselves to continue their education outside of the classroom," said Sanford. Other changes taking effect this month "prohibit a place of higher education (such as a college) from prohibiting a student from storing a handgun and/or ammunition in a vehicle on campus."
