Street harassment: #ISayItsNotOK

Plan is responding to the food crisis in Niger - West Africa
Across West Africa, more than 13 million people are facing a food crisis. Plan is launching an appeal to reduce the impact of the crisis on children and women in particular. Plan's emergency response in Niger is being implemented in two of the most affected areas: Tillaberi and Dosso. We will help in other areas if the need arises. We are distributing vouchers for food in rural communities, giving special nutritional support to under-fives, pregnant women and breastfeeding mums, and providing school lunches for children -- a good way to reduce malnutrition and encourage children to come to school. Dhaka dreams: street children of Dhaka
This short film tells the story of four children from Bangladesh who ended up living on the streets of Dhaka, the country's capital. They are now living in drop-in centres funded by Plan. Currently 680,000 children are living on the streets in Bangladesh. The number is expected to rise to 1.1 million by 2014. The International Day for Street Children is marked on 12th April to give a voice to some of the most disadvantaged and invisible children of this world. It aims to raise awareness and recognition of this worldwide issue and put pressure on policy makers to create an environment in which street children's rights are realised and their voices are heard.

Celebrating International Day of the Girl with Plan UK: The importance of girls' education
Plan UK celebrated the first ever International Day of the Girl (11 October) with a day of activities starting with an all-female takeover of the EDF Energy London Eye, followed by a programme of debates, talks, performances and workshops at the Southbank Centre's Royal Festival Hall. Designers, artists, actors, film directors, actresses and athletes were among an array of women involved in speed mentoring 180 schoolgirls on the Eye, including Team GB women's boxer Natasha Jonas, TV presenter Fiona Phillips, Coronation Street actress Shobna Gulati, novelist Kathy Lette and comedian Josie Lawrence. Salcedo Pockmarked Face of Cagaut
In the Cagaut Barangay (Salcedo municipality in Eastern Samar), children were successful in mobilising their community leaders to engage in tree planting and challenge the malpractices of the chromite mining industry which was increasing disaster risks during the occurrence of heavy rains. In response to the children's call for action, the local barangay council agreed to put out an ordinance prohibiting mining excavation near the river's vicinity as well as stipulating that mining companies must cover up unutilised mining pits and engage in reforestation of extraction areas.

Barobo, The sinking Barangay
In Barobo Barangauy (Llorente municipality in Eastern Samar), children recall the February 17th 2008 flood disaster that caused many to lose their homes and livelihoods and closed down their school for weeks. In their video, children outline the key factors which are making their community vulnerable to floods, including: illegal logging, slash-and-burn farming practices and sand quarrying. They are also aware that their community is vulnerable due to its location on a valley next to a river. They challenged their local authorities to address these harmful practices and succeeded in mobilising their community in a tree planting campaign.
